For you MOMs out there... do you go solo ever?

Well it's not quite the same as going "solo", but DD9 and myself just got back from a week at POP...just the 2 of us. My husband and DS 20 and 17, just had no desire to go. I worked an extra job last summer to save for my Disney trip and we went down together and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves...it won't be the last time either...life is too short to wait around for someone to go with you !!! Go and enjoy!!! :flower:

I live in Ipswich. You know, its not only the guilt trip from my DH, b/c in the long run he would be very understanding, but my parents.... :earseek: I would never hear the end of it!!! I also would love a break. I have started my 11th yr as a pre-school teacher( 30 hrs a wk) and I am the very busy, but proud mom of 3 wonderful children, just to have a few days of taking care of no one but myself!!!!!We will see what happens! Keep me posted on your end! Because it sounds like you do deserve a break! :wave2:

You can get around the money guilt by starting to save for your "girls only" trip now, you have about a year and a half. If you dont work outside the house than spend $12.00/week less on groceries and stash that money away somewhere. Go during value season, Sept, early Dec or January. rooms are pretty cheap at this time of year, you'd be spliting the cost with a friend or even two so that will reduce your cost. Southwest flies to orlando from Ma and/or RI all the time, be vigilent and you could get round trip for as little as 101.00.

You children will be 10, 7 and 4 1/2 years old. Ask mom/MIL to help with the kids and/or arrange for them to spend a nite and/or time with their friends. Have a babysitter come over for a few hours so dad can go watch the game?? Make this an adventure for the kids, do a calendar with some small thing for them to do everyday while you are gone.

Precook and freeze dinners. Bring everyone home a BIG surprise.

I always feel sad when i read that someones dh is making them feel bad about a vacation without "the family". I'm confused by how someone who loves you would begrudge you joy, i mean its not like your doing this every week.

I hope you all find it inside yourselves to start putting yourselves first once and a while, we really are better people when every once in a while we do something special just for us.
Thanks for the :cheer2: !!! But I do have to say that my DH is really a good guy, ( he does all the laundry, cat liter, and kitchen floor) not bad!. He has always been so supportive in what ever I do.He just doesn't understand the whole Disney thing. He would rather go some other place on vacation. Which is fine. And this November I am going away for a scrap booking weekend with the girls. He has no problem staying at home, holding down the fort! I don't even need to prepare meals, he is able to do that himself. So I am sorry if I made him sound like a jerk! He is a wonderful man! My fault...sorry  but thank you for your pep talk! :cheer2:

sounds like everyone is on board for your solo trip except YOU, get over yourself, face the facts they will survive without you, harsh I know, but girl you NEED to Start booking your trip...hey the worst that can happen is you get a little lonely and decide never do this again.

Allaboutmm

I'm really glad to hear your dh is a sweety and its not the girl's only trip hes not thrilled with but the location. My dh arranges a 5 day golf trip with 19 other guys to the cape every April - it snows, it rains, its sleets - i can not for the love of me understand why he enjoys this soooo much, but he does. I figure if a guy thinks this is fun, then i can think wdw WITHOUT kids is fun.

I repeat my last paragraph from before, u sound like you deserve a treat hon.

33 days until my girls only trip (me and best friend) for F&W Festival. Please let me know if, let me rephrase, WHEN your solo/girl's only trips are booked

How old is your DD?
Mine is 14 and not sure she would understand me going without her!!
Her goal is to work hard enough with her music and trumpet that she can go to WDW under the College Internship and play in one of the street bands.... then ultimately stay there after she graduates from college!
So it would be tough to leave her at home! :earseek:

Dd is almost 12. She's getting better about not whining that she isn't going on this trip.
MaryAnn....come on....just tell her. Tell her Katie is okay with it and it will be good for her because you'll miss having her there, so that you will have to take another trip with her sooner than you had planned.
I am so hoping that what happens in WDW stays in WDW....right MaryAnn???

Who are MaryAnn and Katie??? :confused3 :rotfl:
Anyway....
Actually I talked with DD and she is totally fine with me not taking her.
Yes, she will miss me. And she did say if I went at a time that she was also "available" to go... then she would feel bad.
But I told her.... that was the point! She is so busy with school, etc that she just doesn't have time to go when I am available (I have limited times I can take off work).
So I will be planning 2 trips next year.... one solo and one with the entire family. :goodvibes

Oh yea ::yes:: That is, of course, we make sure to bring along enough bail money. Don't want to have to be calling home at 3AM for "special" Western Union Money Transfer :earseek:

I'll be telling Julia, but not until right before I leave. Unlike Katie, she is a major WHINER!!!!! If I have to listen to that for 2 months I'll be threatening to cancel our Mommy/Daughter trip in July and you really shouldn't threaten punishments you don't plan to follow thru on ;) .

My DD is 14 and is mad as heck that I'm going solo......She feels cheated.

I'm so looking forward to going, but I'm totally terrified! :earseek:

I took my first solo trip in August. I really needed to get away from work, family, and all responsibilities. It was just what I needed. I didn't make plans to meet anyone on DIS, slept when I wanted, visited parks I wanted to visit, ate when I wanted, and had a totally selfish trip. My staff and my family all appreciated the new me on my return.

Don't be afraid. There are plenty of people around to chat with. Strike up a conversation on the bus. Talk to your fellow line mates. Sit alone on a bench and people watch. Make a list of all the things you've been dying to do, take a deep breath, and plunge right in! I figured nobody would remember me 10 minutes after I left their presence so I didn't let anything phase me. Have a terrific trip.
