FOR WOMEN ONLY - personal question

I had the ablation about 2 years ago and it has been like night and day. I get my period for about 2 days now with very little cramps. Best thing I ever did.

I had the same problem you had. We tried hormones but that didn't work. My dr.and I discussed ablation, but it was found out after a ******l ultrasound that my fibroids were to large. So, hysterectomy was the choice. I just had a hysterectomy, my ovaries were left. So, no premature menopause. It was the best decision of my life.

Hey, did I write this post? I still think Hysterectomy should be a last choice, it is a HUGE surgery and my recovery was tough. However, looking back on it I wonder why I suffered for years instead of being more proactive about a solution. I feel better than I have in years. Maybe ablation will be the solution for you!

I had the ablation a year and a half ago, and it was the BEST thing I ever did. I had a slight complication with the recovery though, but that is just me. I do not deal with anesthesia very well, so they gave me an epidural. For some reason the feeling only came back on the right side of my body. It took almost 24 hours for all feeling to come back, instead of the 2 hours they told me.

However, I have not had one single period, and not even spotting in 18 months. I am a free woman!! I would do it again in a heartbeat, no regrets at all.

if you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me, :sunny:

I had the ablation in Jan. (for the same issues) and they also inserted the merina iud at the same time.

Once the initial two week time frame (with very very light spotting type stuff) was done no more periods.

The IUD lasts for 5 years and should prevent periods for that time frame.

I also would recommend having a few days off..I drove 9 hours 2 days later and it was way way too much...plus we moved day 4 post op which wasn't a great thing either.

I personally seem to have no issues with the merina (no more acne then I had before) and have lost about 5 lbs as I am now more active (no one week a month couch sitting afraid to move 10ft from a bathroom!)

Personally I think it is much better than the alternatives.

Hi!

I'm so thankful for all of you! I've never heard of this procedure and now I'll be looking into it. Not only are my periods heavy where I have to get up every hour or so, I have these massive headaches at least one day where Im in bed all day. Do you think this will help my headaches also?

I dread every month what I have to go through. But, I do count my blessings that it is only one time a month. There could be alot worse!

I hate my cycle and am done having kids and would love to get rid of my uterus.

I've often said that if I had it (my last C-section 8 years ago) to do over again...I definitely would have told my doctor to take everything out while she was "in there" because I wouldn't be needing any of them anymore!!

I had the ablation several years ago and personally it did not work for me. I had huge fibroids and was severely anemic because of my periods. It worked for about 8 months and then slowly the heavy periods started again. So we tried a myomectomy to remove the fibroids and that worked for a while until I started getting a new fibroid. By this time, my uterus was too scarred to have another child so I had to have a full hysterectomy. I had a problem with the side effects - hot flashes, depression, no sex drive for a while so I went on estrogen only. After 3 years of hormone replacement therapy my doctor slowly weaned me off.

I was devestated at first because I desperately wanted more children, but looking back on it now, it was the best thing I ever did. I was so sick for the first 5 years of my daughter's life that I feel like a I missed so much.

I am now 40 and have been uterus free for five years and hormone free for two years and I feel wonderful. I have no side effects and no period. Plus my husband does not miss the PMS, MS, or Post MS! :sunny:

I would recommend that you talk to a doctor you trust and then follow-up with another doctor for a 2nd opinion. In fact, my doctor referred me to a fertility and women's health specialist to get the 2nd opinion even though I trusted him because he felt it was important that I feel at ease and have all the knowledge I needed to make the proper choice.

I am looking for help from all women who might have gone through this before. I have been having big problems with my cycle. My bleeding is very heavy and I tend to have large clots. I don't like to even leave the house in the first 2 or 3 days of my cycle due to the possible complications of the bleeding and the fact that I usually feel like a mac truck ran me over.

My family practice practitioner has recommended a uterine ablasion. I am done having children, so this is not an issue. Has anyone had this procedure or known someone who has???

Thanks and sorry if I have made anyone uncomfortable.

i started having problems with heavy bleeding also- however, i had fibroids- i think i had several larger ones and a few small ones. i refused to get a hysterectomy-- even though i am 41, never had kids, and never want them-- but i would like to keep all of my female parts intact whether i am using them or not! :rotfl2: i chose to go through a Uterine Fibroid Embolization- i think they may have shrunk- my periods are not that heavy anymore--

but what i was wondering was- did your doctor check for fibroids as a reason for heavy bleeding?

It got rid of every one of my PMS symptoms, including my horrible headaches. I used to get migraine-like headaches right before my period, but they have not returned since the procedure. :cheer2:

Hello -
I have an appointment first for the end of July. I think that I may want to try to get in slightly sooner. At that time I am going to discuss the possibility of fibroids. I believe that there are some diagnostics that need to be done prior to the scheduling of the ablasion. Thanks for your thoughts.

Petrymom,

I just read your post, and then I'll sift through the replies.

GET THE ABLATION!!!! I had a Novasure ablation done in March and the torture of the past ten years is over. Due to a history of phlebitis/DVT, I could not consider a hysterectomy.

Your doctor will want to do a pelvic exam and a trans uterine ultrasound to rule out fibroids. It's weird, because they'll do a saline 'wash' to check things out.

The procedure was done in the hospital, and while they offered to do it under local, they ended up doing it under general anethesia. More for my doctor's comfort than my own.

Recovery was very easy. I was crampy for a day, and I had a week off work for another surgical procedure the next morning. I spotted the next month, but nothing since. I think the stats are that 70% of women don't get a period once the body has healed.

If it wasn't for the DIS, I'd still be dreading the monthlies...

I work in surgery and we do this procedure a couple times a week. The procedure is not very painful. You will be up and going in a few days. A lot of women have done so much better from having it. We do the Novasure Therma-Ablation. Make sure your doctor has privledges to do this and see how many she or he has done. Good luck to you. Never be affraid to ask questions of your doctor. If they get all weird about you asking questions than they r probably not the doctor for you.
