Can any of you offer suggestions for a budget friendly lunch in the Williamsburg area? We have 4 ladies who will be spending several hours together on a Saturday afternoon in the Williamsburg area and we would like to have a 'nice' lunch together. Not too expensive though....;) And if you recommend a restaurant that you like can you share what you or others w/ you have ordered and how the liked/disliked it. I really don't know these other ladies super well. So if it's a bomb, I'm going to take the fall. :rotfl: Also other than walking around Colonial Williamsburg (or Jamestown, etc), Busch Gardens (too costly for a couple of hours), or outlet shopping, can anyone else tell me what they do there? Esp, the locals. We need to fill about 3 or so hours with an activity. I know one of the women is clearly not a window shopper and I don't think one of the others cares for it, but would do it if asked. But I don't want to ask. Nothing is worse than having to do an activity that you really don't care for and esp w/ people you don't really know. I'm not a clothes shopper myself. I like to shop for the other junk though. ;) Thanks ahead for any thoughts or suggestions.

Aromas! My favorite place to stop. We have ordered many things there and never been disappointed. They always have a lunch/dinner special and we have always been pleased!
It is within walking distance of Colonial Williamsburg which would be my suggestion if I were in the area for only a couple of hours. You do not have to buy tickets to walk the area. You will not be able to go in some buildings but others are open to all.

I used to work part time at Aroma's :). I loved working there. The Wine & Cheese shop is pretty good too (although I prefer the one closer to Busch Gardens, across from Kingsmill, as it's more secluded and has a nice little outdoor seating area, also has indoor seating). They have soups/sandwiches. Both are counter service. The Wine and Cheese shop has a brown bag lunch special that's your choice between ham or turkey on freshly baked bread, chips, a drink, and a huge, yummy brownie for less than $8. I should know, I get it all of the time! :) I work right across from there in the Busch Corporate Center.

As for other things to do, are you looking for activities? You can rent kayak's and go for a leisurely paddle for a couple of bucks at Waller Mill Park. There's a mini golf place, I think it's called Pirate's Cove, that's about $8 per person. Yorktown is a nice 15 minute drive down Colonial Parkway and you could go for a walk along the beach. Or right next to Jamestown you can ride the ferry for free across the James River and back. Go for a walk around the Yankee Candle store on Richmond Road, it has a Christmas shop, food store, etc., tourists love that place :).

I just found out about this place. :rotfl: Do they have a restaurant there? if so, do you know what it is? this sounds promising, at least for me. ;) I am a Yankee candle addict. :rolleyes1

Anyone else? :goodvibes

The Yankee Candle place is a nice way to spend a few hours. There is a little place to eat in there. Nothing fancy, just a few tables and a counter service of mostly sandwichs and salads I think? In there is a generic build a bear type place, a toy store, home goods, a very nice Christmas Shop, kitchen items and of course the candles. It is a lot to take in and a nice few hours.

But Richmond Road has just about every chain imaginable. Olive Garden is right next door. Red Hot and Blue is a chain-- http://www.redhotandblue.com/ There is Cracker Barrel, Friday's, Chilis, Outback, all those sort of places. There isn't much for "real food" at the outlet mall. I haven't been in a while but I know the last time I was there we couldn't find one place to actually get lunch. It was all candy and ice cream. We had to leave to eat.

If you go to Yorktown you can walk along the beach and there are some nice quaint little shops and a restaurant-- I think it is called the Riverwalk. There is also a Ben and Jerry's across the street. Jamestown also has a nice little cafe with some good selections at reasonable prices. Colonial Williamsburg meal prices are higher.

If you have a car and are planning to drive out toward Jamestown, there is a ferry that will take you across the James River. Once you are on the other side there is a farm where you can buy fresh produce. We went and picked strawberries there a few weeks ago. http://www.collegerunfarms.com/

Surry county is on that side of the water, and they have a "famous" restaurant that serves Virginia specialties (like Peanut soup). I haven't been there since I was a kid, but it's supposed to be good. http://www.surreyhouserestaurant.com/

I don't think you said when exactly you would be in Williamsburg, but there is a farmer's market on Saturdays. http://www.williamsburgfarmersmarket.com/

Hope that helps!
