Seems like lots of people on the Dis have new puppies. If you have a puppy less than a year old, please post what kind he/she is, name, how old, etc. A picture would be great, too!

I have a 12 1/2 week old cocker/beagle mix puppy. Her name is Grace, and she's mostly black. She has brown eyebrows, and a brown mustache, and white front paws. She's got a beagle body, and cocker ears. She's so darn cute!

Now if we could just get through the housebreaking stage....

(I don't know how to post pics)

Thanks, Esmeralda, for telling me how to post the pic. This is actually a pic of Grace's sister (Grace looks exactly the same, but has white paws) when they were 4 weeks old.

I have a 9 week old Shih Tzu, his name is Harley. He's mostly brown and black, and looks like a little mop with eyes. He weighs 1.5 pounds, and the vet told me today he figures he will be 3-5 full grown!

This little guy went hypoglycemic again today and had to spend the afternoon in ICU, so we are babying him like crazy with molasses, sugar water, liquid nutrition drops, and high calorie canned food. The housebreaking has been hard, so far, since we've only had him a week and he's been sick so much! BUt we'll get there =)

I don't know how to post pics, either, but i have some on my computer I'll share if anyone can assist!

To post pics, upload to your webspace, either your homepage, or wherever you host your photos on the net.

Then right click on the photo on the page.

Select properties. Cut & Paste the pic url. Then...

Paste that address here into the IMG box.

I hope that makes sense. :)

OMG it worked, I so psyched!!!!:hyper:

We have a 12-week-old black miniature poodle. His name is Bailey. He weighs about 5 pounds now--he'll be about 16 pounds when he's full grown.

He's a cutie and has stolen our hearts.

We have a 5 month old Mini Daschund named Daisy. She is black and tan and weighs about 8 pounds.
I can relate to the housebreaking stage. Daisy thinks you are supposed to potty inside and play out.
I'll have to make a picture smaller so that I can post it.

We have George (see avatar.) He is a 6 month old Papillon, and is full grown at 6 lbs. We have had him for 3 months, and he has been completely potty trained for almost 2 months!

I don't recommend using those blue potty pads. They encourage going potty in the house. We just took him outside every hour or two and praised him when he would go outside. It worked like a charm!

We have an almost 5 month old Westie/Schnauzer mix. Her name is Lilo.
She is such a sweetheart, and a very good dog, we got lucky as first time dog owners! (the last dogs we both had were when we were kids)

Here she is:

So cute! Monty Dog is too old to qualify. He's 14 months. He'll always be my puppy though. :) He certainly does not act like an "adult". :)

We have a 5 month old mini daschund--Cocao red & brown coloring. She is just like a baby, very playful but also very sweet. She gives lots of puppy kisses.

Some fine-looking bow-wows here!

My "puppy" isn't really a puppy anymore, although he acts like it. He'll be two years old on November 9. And yes, he will have a birthday party thrown by mommy. :teeth:

He was 7 weeks old and weighed 11 pounds when we got him. He now weighs 95 pounds. His mom is a laborer retriever; his dad is a rottie mix.

He was a breeze to housebreak; he was completely trained in 10 days. I've heard big dogs are easier to train (thank heavens!).

I confined him in my kitchen by gating it off. I placed a sheet of newspaper on the floor and got him to wee-wee there at first. Then, whenever I saw him headed toward the paper, I'd whisk him out the back door. When he did his business outside, he got lots praise and a little cube of cheese as a reward.

Sorry I don't have any photos to post. He is one handsome dude, though. :) He's all black except for a white squiggle on his chest.

Just got mine on Sunday. A Bichon named Toby. He's a cutie and its a good thing he is because he is driving me nuts with "potty training" Snuggles----Our puppies must be related because mine thinks he goes outside to play and inside to go to the bathroom!!

If anyone has any ideas I would Love to hear them!!!

We paper trained ours, which was far easier.

However, a trainer I had over said to make a schedule. Take them outside first thing in the morning, wait for them to go, if they do, then praise and treats. Then take them out after breakfast. Then before lunch and after lunch. THen before and after dinner and before bed.

Other times to take them out would be after a nap.

The key is patience. You'll be taking them out alot at first. DOn't stay out longer than 5 minutes if they don't do anything. Only give praise and treats if they do.

If they have an accident inside the house, just quietly clean it up.

This did work for us when we had a patio in NYC. However, we moved to the top floor of a new apartment with no deck and had to revert to paper training.

Meg was doing good .....and then she screamed at me from the kitchen and i didn't go to her......well its like this......took her out three times and she didnt' want to do anything but play.....so when she did whine and scream......it was to late......she pottied on the kitchen floor.....OY OY OY.....my fault and not hers......
