It's almost that time of year where you might get frustrated with all your hair. In the summer mine gets on my nerves because it keeps in so much heat then I keep it pulled up all the time.

If you are considering a short haircut for the summer please consider donating your hair to Locks of Love. You only have to have a minimum of 10 inches of healthy hair.

This afternoon I have an appointment to get mine cut. This will be the second time I have donated my hair, but I think I'm going even shorter than I did last time. I'm a bit nervous about going so short, but this way they can get even more hair out of my cut.

It is so exciting knowing I can do a little something to help these kids out. Since I can't donate blood (strict orders from the doctor since I get so lightheaded after 2 tubes for tests) this is my small way of doing something to help.

This is a great idea and a wonderful cause. Thank you for the reminder. :)

Belle's going to be doing this, probably next spring. Her only condition is, she wants to grow it down to her knees first! This has been her plan since she was ~4--she'll be 9 in June--and it's only got a couple inches to go! For her, she was prompted by all the comments she gets on her beautiful hair (it's butterscotch blonde, very thick and very fine). Total strangers comment on how beautiful it is. So, she just wanted to help other kids who weren't so fortunate. So here I am, the one who cares for it daily,k but how can I argue? It's a wonderful cause. We also have a girl in Belle's grade at school, who is bald due to a medical condition. It really hits home how lucky Belle is (and how blessed I am to have her for a daughter!)

My SIL opened my eyes to Locks of Love (she donates). So I donated my hair last time I cut it. I intend to donate again and that thought is the only thing that keeps me from chopping it all off when the Summer heat sets in. It's a tiny thing that can help a child in a big way.

Thanks for the post!

That's a great thing to do for them. But I'm not giving up my long hair. ;) I lasted 15 years with it in FL, so I can deal with it in VA. :teeth: But if I were to cut it short, yes, I would donate to them.

My daughter(8) has been growing out her hair for about 3 years to donate to this wonderful organiziation. She's got about 12 inches already but we have to wait to get it cut in August, right after her last dance competition. She needs to have it long to be put up in a bun.

She is so excited about doing it and I feel it's such a selfless gesture on her part.

I was disappointed to find that they only want ponytails of 10" or more. My boys have thick hair that has gotten thicker and we thought it would be great to shave their heads and donate their hair. It is about 4" long. But, Locks of Love don't want it. :(

Sorry to hear that. The reason it needs to be at least 10 inches is because of all the processing.

I have before and after pics if anyone is interested in seeing them.

My dd did that when she got her hair cut for the first time. She donated 11 inches.

A friend of mine told me it takes 3 donations of 10" or more to make "hair" for the children that need it.

My high school senior DD has red hair to her waist. Sometime after prom on May 7 and before her birthday on May 30 she is going short and has already planned to donate. She has a friend who is going to donate with her.
