For those with 2 different UYs

So, my husband and I started our membership with 300 SSR points then later added on 150 AKV points and then 151 Extended OKW points.

We didn't care of SSR as much as OKW so we sold off all of our SSR points. This was nearly 2 years ago. Since then we have yet to find an extended OKW contract that has the same UY or the number of points we need.

Now we're seriously considering adding on a totally different UY, but before we make a mistake let me ask this.....

I realize that you're only allowed 1 transfer per year SO, can you transfer ALL of the points from one contract to another in order to have the points necessary to make reservations? (I know that they stay in the same UY)

You can't transfer borrowed points, correct?

Point transfers can sometimes be problematic, have you thought about banking your OKW points and staying there every other year?

If AKV is your second favorite resort, you can alternate stays between OKW and AKV every other year.

We use VGF or VWL for our MK vacations and BWV for our Epcot/DHS vacations.

We have 2 different SSR contracts with two different use years and have no issues with it. We researched the restrictions prior to purchasing our second contract and were looking for value vs. the most ideal situation. You can not transfer banked or borrowed points. Having 2 contracts with the same UY does not change the restrictions. With online booking you can easily split your stay into segments and book with both contracts. We have done this before and DVC has combined the two reservations for us. As I said, we have not found having 2 different UY to be an issue. Just make sure you know what the rules of transferring are before you make a decision.
And...yes, you can transfer all the points from one contract to another, as long as they are not banked or borrowed points.

In my opinion, if you are buying a good amount of OKW points, I'd just use each as its own, book whole nights on each membership, and then ask MS to link the two reservations so you won't have to change rooms.

We have two UY's and I just use each as its own. I do sometimes have to borrow points when I have ones available from the other, but so far, it has worked out and I try not to stress since I'd rather have the flexibility to use all the points online and not have to worry about calling MS.

I had two different UYs and it was a PITB. I couldn't combine my contracts in a single 7-month reservation unless I booked whole days in each and then "connected" the reservations together. Plus, I had different banking windows to keep track of which was another pain. I wouldn't get another contract with a different UY unless it was really made worth my while.

Depending on how your two contracts are titled, you may have two separate logins to the website, or you may have a single login with a drop-down for each contract. You will only be able to book with one contract at a time, and you will not be able to combine points without transferring.

I agree with this totally I own at 3 resorts and have 2 UYs and have never transferred points. Sometimes I just leave it until I check in at the resort and get the CM to link the reservations, and I've never had to change rooms. If I've used points from both contracts then I do get to collect 2 sets of keys/bands. That's the only disadvantage to doing it that way as far as I can see.

I also have 2 separate log-ins for the different contracts - it was the only way for me, since one is shared with my DH and the other with DS - I don't find this to be a problem.

I have 10 different use yr. between me and my DW, deeded 3 different way, so 3 log ins. I bought all resale and did not care what use yr. we go several times in a yr.
You can book all online and link them together or transfer the points, I prefer booking by myself. Having two different use yr also gives you other set of wait list so you wait list more nights. Also if you want to transfer in or out you have more flexibility available to you.

That seems like a great benefit of having extra wait list requests - I didn't even think about that. Is that true as long as the use year is different? Or do I need to have them deeded differently, so that I have 2 different log-ins? I absolutely would want to take advantage of the extra wait lists.

I find my two UYs very easy to manage and in fact it helps with the way we travel. I have one login but two contracts. As we do split stays I use them both separately. I understand that for some the multiple strategy can be a benefit. I also suspect that some bought multiple either not fully realizing what they were getting into, or like yourself, they took what they could get and now they live with it.

For the general public reading these boards trying to learn prior to buying, I would rather point them in the direction of what's easy and guaranteed verses, It can be done and good luck with your waitlist.

Why put up with any bother if you don't have to?

I am already used to having to use different strategies for booking with the contracts I already have 300 points separated into 7 contracts (however, all with the same UY) This additional "hassle" wouldn't be enough to send me to the funny farm and after over 2 years of waiting for the "right" contract I would be fine with taking on a different UY to get what I want.

While I really love where we bought, I don't mind at all staying at different resorts. I've only tried 4 resorts thus far, but have been happy with our stay at all 4. And there are 3 more I would be very happy to try. And while I do plan ahead, sometimes I would like to add on a day or two - making a wait list a necessity. What I really wish is that DVC would allow you to include all one bedrooms at a resort under one wait list request (not limiting to one view type), but that isn't happening. I'm grateful to other owners letting me know that I can get more wait lists by having multiple contracts. Again, thanks for the info.

We have three different Use Years (and have had four in the past). With the different Use Years you will have multiple memberships which does allow wait list requests for each as well as multiple transfers.

MS has been allowing those with multiple memberships to transfer without "using" the one-per-year feature. While that could stop at any time, MS has been allowing it for quite awhile now.

They do not need to be titled differently if they have different Use Years as they will automatically be a different membership number.

We are considering Disney Vacation Club. Do you think it is a good idea to rent points to get the feel of Disney Vacation Club? What sites to you go to rent? As anybody done this before they bought into Disney Vacation Club?

Must be a very specific contract? Have you been checking with all of the brokers?
