For those who stay in Garden View at Poly...???

... Just curious. Which bldg do you usually ask for? Which bldg do you like best and why? Or which bldg to avoid. If you're allergic to smoke, I know Nuie is not the best bldg for non smoker. So which bldg do you guys prefer for GV. Thanks.

-Potential for great views (we stayed here on our last visit and had view of the lagoon at the GV rate)

We also liked Tokelau longhouse. We were on the second floor, midway down the bldg on the GF side. Hawaii longhouse was in front of our balcony but we had a nice view of the lagoon off to the side. If I had had a choice I would have asked for the same area room but on the opposite side of the longhouse...towards TTC. But, it was a great location. We could just walk out the end of our longhouse and watch the MK fireworks, a short walk via a very nice pathway to TTC and a wonderful boat ride to MK or you can take the monorail. We had a quiet pool right outside our door and the main pool was a quick 3-4 minute walk away as was the main bldg.

I don't remember the exact room number, but it was close to 2923 (sounds like I was across the hall from where goofy4tink was). HTH

My vote goes for Samoa 3rd floor facing the volcano pool. It is gardenview but you also get a view of the lagoon. It was great to sit on the balcony and look at the pool and the boats going around. My second would be Raratonga 3rd floor facing the monorail. We love watching it go by and we didn't see the parking lot either.

Another vote for Tokelau. The main selling point of Tokelau for us was the location -- in between GCH and TTC, and partial lagoon view!

If I had to rate the buildings for garden view my list would look like this.

1.Tokelau (larger room, balconies on both floors, location and possible view of the castle)
2.Samoa (location and view)
3.Fiji (view)
4.Rarotonga/ Aotearoa (monorail view on one side and either a pool or partial lagoon view on the other)
5.Tahiti (larger rooms, balconies on both upper floors and close to the TTC)
6.Rapa Nui (nice view on one side but parking lot on the other, larger rooms and balconies on both floors)
7.Tuvalu (a few garden view rooms with ok views but many look right into the end of Fiji)
8.Niue (good location, only 2 floors with no balcony and an all smoking building)

How old did you think I was? I turn 35 tomorrow but I have been traveling with my parents since I was little and I was born in Germany (Dad was in the Air Force) Ramstein Air Force base. Once I turned 18 I took off for Oahu days after my birthday and I go as many places as I can since then. I get into the details of things because I am a Mechanical Design Engineer for (well that is top secret) and so anything I do I try to look at everything about it. I could go on and on with my story but it would be off topic.

Tokelau is all non-smoking. The only smoking rooms are in Niue, the upper floor of Tuvalu, The east half of the second floor of Tahiti (separated by a door in the hall) and part of the upper floor of Hawaii (concierge only).

I am glad we got the brick at WDW just before they stopped doing it. We ordered a 50th Ann. Brick at Disneyland last weekend with the golden seal at the top so now we will have one on each coast.

Before I actually saw your pictures...just from your posts here on the Dis and reading all your recollections and stories...I would have guessed you at 45 or more!!!! you sound very intellectual and well, should I say descriptive?? I would imagine we would get Tokelau for a few reasons
1. I am guranteed a ns building NOT just room but whole building
2. My request for a building was Tokelau

so we shall see in September...
btw what do you think of the CM's at the Poly?? A lot of people have commented lately that they are just "Average" and do not regularly show you the "magic" you would expect from the Poly. For example, do the CM's greet you with an aloha? Are they child friendly? Do they engage the guests in the whole island feel?? What are your opinions?

off topic...I was so excited the other day to learn I am now a published writer!! I wrote a letter to the editor of the DSM Register (which we do not regularly subscribe to) and low and behold a cousin in law on the 4th said "I really liked your article in the paper the other day!" It took me a min to realize what she was talking about...it was once upon a time a dream of mine to be a writer...and or to be an actress.

I would say that in the past the Polynesian was know as the place to be by CMs and they had to work at other resorts to get to the Polynesian (this was what I was told). Over the last few years the long time CMs are leaving or retiring and a new batch is coming in as well as the WDW resort management are looking at the dollar and not what is best for the guests so they are cutting back on staff. So now you have a few of the longtime CMs trying to train all the new ones and work long hours as well as do the job of 3 people. That does not make for a happy worker and throw in a few rude guests to make their day. My experiences have still been very positive with only a few problems (mostly in Captain Cook’s) but walking the resort I usually get quite a few Alohas from just the staff you pass by and I don’t know any of them. I get mixed reviews from people about the front desk staff but they have some great people helping to improve the front desk staff so I think they are in good hands. The people that do the kids activities and such always seem to be up for the challenge and in a good mood. There are also a few that work there that are from the Islands and they can be found around or at ‘Ohana or the Tourch Lighting Ceremony and of coarse the Spirit of Aloha Show or you may see them in the lobby.

With all that said you can go to any resort at any time and get a horrible CM or one having a bad day so there are no guarantees as to what you will experience.

Congratulations on the publishing. I wish my writing skills were better since I have created this monster in my web page but I just write what comes out and sometimes that does not flow well. I sometimes feel I write like I am writing a Technical Memo. I am just glad people put up with my writing and my misspelling and still enjoy my web pages.

We stayed in Tokelau Garden View last month (gosh it seems so long ago now). Here are our views from the balcony of Room 2917

I loved Tokelau (and I loved Tahiti, too but we had lagoon view there last year....awesome) because the rooms are large, you have a balcony and I like being close to the TTC. We never got on the monorail in the GCH this visit...always used the TTC or the boats (ferry or small) for transport to MK.

I must admit, I am the brains of this whole escape so I am a bit nervous about having to figure out all the transportation options, park hours, show hours, fast passes, and child swap, oh yeah did I mention dining plan, PS's, and fireworks???? I can only assume we will see only a tiny fragment of what is WDW, but I remember as a child going to MK only one day, off site, and STILL feeling like it was the most awesome place on Earth! Love the pics of the Poly, you are all doing a great job helping us newbies. Thanks.
