I have about 4 boxes of clothes to sell. Should I take them one box at a time or all at once? Just wondered which way is better to get more $$$.

UDPATE! Took my 4 boxes yesterday. Came home with 3 boxes and $24. ugh. I'm going to another store today. A friend said they don't pay as high but they take more.

The store I use would only take 3 boxes at a time - make sure everything is clean, buttons sewn on tight - snaps in working order - if games / toys - all pieces are there - but don't expect alot - the stores here have gotten 'very picky' about what they will except - of course all they have in dd's size now is stuff that isn't allowed in her school due to dress code

Good luck

Sell them yourself on eBay and make more than resale shops will give you. :teeth:

As to your question, they won't take winter stuff right now so you might want to separate it all into spring & summer stuff. They will either give you close to nothing for the winter stuff or give it right back to you. As far as taking it in all at once or in batches, it doesn't matter...most have a price list that they go by and that determines the value.

I've brought some things to Once Upon a Child, which I believe is a chain. They don't care how much you bring in at a time, but don't expect to walk out rich. They gave me $4.00 for a girl's wool Rothschild coat and hat in perfect condition. It was over $120 new! They give 25 cents for summer shirts and 50 cents for shorts that are in excellent condition. They won't take anything even remotely faded or stained. I stopped going when they offered me $2.50 for a $79 Christmas dress that my daughter wore once.

Jill, Those are ridiculous prices!

Jeafl-We have Once Upon a Child here too. They pay terrible and they charge alot to buy. Infant dresses at a resale shop for $9.99 is a bit high IMHO.

I was not impressed by Once Upon A Child at all. The clothes I saw were way overpriced IMO and they were faded. I can do better at garage sales.

I am curious about selling on Ebay. I have two Italian Hand-smocked dresses that have never been worn. (I work for a children's clothing showroom at the apparel mart) I would like to sell these along with some other barely worn items but not sure if they will sell.

I was wondering about this store the other day. I walked in there out of curiosity and it seemed to me that most of their clothing was about 80 to 90% of what similar items would sell for new at Babies R Us or a Department store. It just didn't seem like that good of a deal to me.

Have you considered just holding a yard sale on your own? I know that you could probably get a lot of money. That is what I did when my teens were younger. Worked great for selling their toys, too.

I'm planning to have a garage sale in May. I figure if I advertise-childrens clothes-I could move at least SOME of it. I don't mind giving things away but a little extra $$$ is nice too.

also look for out grown clothing sales lots of churches have them. you set the price and they get a % it is usually lower than consignment shops. Most thrift shops take 50% I have done very well at 2 church sales and they only too 1/3.

I gave up doing that a long time ago... Ebay seems to have a decent selection of childrens clothing.

I did try to sell some there, but we got into a discussion on the condition, and well, I don't do that anymore.

I used to have a twice a year children's consignment sale. I quit when I realized I could make more money on ebay without the stress. It's time consuming, but I think you get the best prices on ebay.

Having said that, the market is a little depressed right now. People aren't spending as much money, but I bet it is that way in the shops as well. Good luck finding the right place to sell your clothes.
