For those who prefer to drive to Disney

There are usually 5 of us, 6 when my mom joins us. It's me, dh and 3 dd's. We have a dodge caravan and we always drive. It's much cheaper to drive than fly with 5/6 people. The last few years we've been driving straight through. But even if we stop, it 's still cheaper than flying. The daughters bring their gameboy's and cd players. It works for us.

I get a kick out of reading how many of you drive down to Orlando.
We drive UP in about 3 1/2 hours or 2 movies in the minivan.

2 years ago, I bought a 1999 Dodge conversion van specifically because we wanted to drive to FLA every year. It is me, my wife & my 3 daughters. plenty of videos & cd's. coloring books, etc...The ride is one of my favorite things. We have stopped before, but now we like to drive straight through.

Ugh! I totally agree with you regarding the number in your family and the size of your current vehicle.
We drove once (just to prove to DH that we wouldn't like it) and had a larger minivan with one captains chair removed so we could set up a little "living room" with a TV/VCR, etc.

For us it was a good 21 hours straight and if we had to sit up the entire time, we'd have been crazy. Especially the trip home when the excitement of getting there is gone and it's just one long drive.

With the price of gas, you may find that one of the smaller regional airlines can offer you better rates. We're going in 2 weeks for $79 per person each way. And the best part: We'll be in WDW in 5 hours NOT in 21!!!!!!

We just traded in my beloved Ford Expedition for a 2003 Ford Windstar van. Mainly for the gas milage. I now drive my wife's Ford Explorer. The difference between the gas milage for the Van vs. Expedition is 23 vs. 14. BIG difference with today's gas prices. The van is actually better with 4 dds age 10, 6 and 1 y.o. twins. The twins are put in the captain seat and the other 2 have the 3rd row to themselves with the DVD player.
