I'm considering HoJo for a future trip and would like to know which building and room type you pick and why? Not sure what the difference is between standard, deluxe, and superior. Do you like building 1,2 or 3-6? Are their buildings to avoid? Which building is closest to the parks?TIA

The smaller buildings (3,4,5,6) are slightly closer to the park (but I'm talking 30 seconds) however they don't have microwaves, nor elevators but are further away from the highway. I prefer those since it's usually a simple waltz in to your room, no waiting for elevators, etc. However the second floor involves stairs, so there's that. The other difference is bed size, buildings 1 and 2 have Queen beds, the other's have doubles I believe (it's all on their site). Higher up you have a better chance of a park view of course.

Building 1 - Superior - has great views (we like to watch the monorail and see the Matterhorn), and a balcony from which to watch fireworks. We ask for the top floor, as the view is less likely to be obstructed, and because we love the giant window on the top floor.

Note: some people specifically ask to not be on the top floor because the top of the giant window is not covered by a curtain (can't "black out" the room). Because we prefer to wake up to natural light coming into the room and don't like or use black out curtains, it happens to be perfect for us, though.

We haven't been for a few years now, since they stopped being so generous with their discounts. But we've always gotten the 2 queen deluxe. Love the queen beds, love the fact that it has a mini-fridge and microwave, and love the fact that they're in building 2. That's the quietest building in the complex.

In recent years, we have preferred the kids suites. I know some say they can't hear a sound in there, but I still hear freeway noise. It's much, much improved though now that they added the extra layers of glass for soundproofing. Anyway, we like the kids suites for the space and the two bathrooms now that we have teenagers. Those are in building 1. I wouldn't bother with a standard room in building 1 because it's freeway side and without the kids suite there's no trade-off for me for the bit of extra noise.

If we're not going to stay in a kids suite, my first choice is a deluxe room in building 2. That is definitely the quietest building. We have also stayed in a premium room in building 1. What makes that room "premium" is the view, otherwise the premium and deluxe rooms are the same in terms of size and amenities, i.e. t.v., microwave, fridge, keurig coffeemaker, in-room safe, queen size beds. Can't remember the bathroom situation, whether there is a sink area outside the main bathroom or not in either set-up. The premium room wasn't my favorite. We had a partially obstructed view of the park which didn't really bother me, but noise was a bit of an issue for me as is often the case since I am a light sleeper. Again, for quietness building 2 is best.

I haven't tried buildings 3-6 since they only have double beds and we prefer at least queen size. The lack of elevators in those buildings wouldn't bother us but could be an issue for some. The skylight rooms would bother me though, so I would be on the first floor anyway if I was to try out one of those buildings.

Several years ago, we stayed in Building 1, a deluxe, 2 queen room, and requested top floor. Like the previous poster said, I like the natural light of the high windows, though for some it's too bright. The freeway noise was audible, but it didn't bother us; it was more like a distant rumble. I would probably bring ear plugs or white noise anyway-- it's enough to bother some people.

The room they gave us was 1713, and I liked it because the view wasn't blocked by the Ponderosa pines that tower up past the top of the building. Great view of the monorail and the Matterhorn, and fireworks.

The beds were really comfortable. They store your luggage for you if you get there before your room is ready. The bathroom sink is outside the shower/toilet area, which is always nice for getting ready in the morning.

When you come out in the morning, there is a side door exit you can use that is right on Manchester, so easy access to the street. Although I would NEVER advocate jaywalking :rolleyes1 you could hypothetically jaywalk across Manchester (usually very light traffic) and cross Harbor at the light there, and walk down the Disney side of the street, going in at the taxi entrance and saving yourself a bit to go down to the crosswalk on the other side.

We loved staying there, but you can't get the incredible rates they used to have any more, and the walk seems long at the end of the night. So now we're more basic "at the crosswalk" kinda people. :) Desert Inn for $99 a night on our next trip in September!

We just got back from the Hojo last week. We stayed in a standard room in building 1. We thought the location was ideal. We could see fireworks from our room. The beds were comfy. The room is a little tired but we got a great deal on it and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. We were in room 1209, facing the parks.

If you want a view of the fireworks, get a superior room in building 1. Honestly, I like all the buildings and configurations. If I'm not mistaken, the rooms with double beds are all in 3,4, 5, and 6 whereas the 2 bigger buildings hold the suites and rooms with queen or king beds. I will say buildings 3,4,5, and 6 are older and building 3 and 4 seem to be a bit noisier since the pirate water area is right there.

We've stayed in building 1 twice in a premium view queen/queen and buildings 4+6 in the standard double/doubles numerous times. I prefer the two story buildings, 4+6 specifically. We request rooms on the ground floor since they don't have elevators and our request has always been met. I like that these two buildings are close to the parking lot so its easy for me to unpack/pack up the car. I like that I don't have to deal with an elevator going to my room. We're fine with the double beds in these rooms. I think they're a bit larger/longer than standard double beds. The only drawback is no microwave but its not a deal breaker for us. We still have a keurig coffee maker and fridge which is all I need.

Building 1 is absolutely fine. We had great views of the park both times. I just prefer the smaller buildings. Space wise I dont think there was anymore space in our premium queen/queen rooms vs the standard double/double rooms. All had a sink outside the bathroom which helps make getting ready faster.

We're headed there this weekend actually and are in double/doubles again. Hopefully on the ground floor!

for those who have stayed in a double/double, i heard the room is big enough so there is room for a blowup mattress near the window. is this true? we have booked a double/double with request for a lower room floor.... we also requested a Q/Q if one is available (i'm guessing there will be an upcharge)

There definitely is. We've had a roll away bed in there with no issues.

I've not done the kid's suites myself, but a friend who stayed there seemed to like it. My trips to HoJo (I consider it my personal hotel :teeth:) have been in the Superior Rooms. We like to have a park view from our room. Regardless of the floor, just seeing the Matterhorn and watching the monorail go by...that's really cool. In fact, I just got to speak with Kriss (who often posts here) and got a reservation date moved and I of course got the Superior rooms.

If you don't want to pay the extra, I've found the I-5 freeway noise to be more of a white noise that helps me sleep. In fact, on my first trip, we had a corner room that was close to the freeway and it helped drown out a crying baby next door! Thankfully, that only lasted two nights. All this to say, any room at this place is very nice. Easy walking distance to the parks, a cool waterpark for little ones, and the rooms are clean and "insect" free. You can't go wrong with whatever you pick.

This is a great thread, because we'll be arriving at the HoJo in 13 days!

We booked through Disney to get lanyards and a few other things, so it's just labeled as a "standard" room. Does anyone know if they'll be doubles, queens, or luck of the draw? Also, has anyone booked through Disney and been able to upgrade room category or change to a certain building upon check in if you wanted a different room? At the time we booked, standard was the only option we were given for the HoJo, so I didn't think too hard about it.

If we weren't staying for 8 nights I'd be fine with a broom closet. I'd prefer building one, but building two would be fine...I really just want easy access to guest laundry without having to walk across property with my stuff.

Don't want to hijack this thread, but would love to hear your experiences. It's our first time to Disneyland for this WDW family.

hi XLSM,

When you booked through Walt Disney, you are guaranteed a “run of the house” room. These rooms have 2 oversized double beds facing the courtyard. If you would like to add requests for a specific room type, please let us know and we will be happy to add request to your reservation. Although we cannot guarantee the requests, we will accommodate it for you as best we can.

If you would like to guarantee a specific room type, you definitely have the option to do that as well! We can upgrade your room if the room is available for the entire length of your stay. We recommend to upgrade prior to your check in, in case we run out of upgrades when you arrive. If you wanted a quote, please PM me or contact our in-house reservation team at (714) 776-6120.

HTH,
Kriss

Thank you! I'll either be PMing you or calling a little later. I appreciate your help!

We have stayed in Deluxe Disney view rooms many times, but also Standard rooms in Building 3. There is theoretically no difference in size between the rooms, (except if you get an end room by the linen store in Building 3 which we did once - so ask NOT to have that room!) Building 3 rooms are huge, heaps of luggage storage, plenty of room for a rollaway and a nice patio/balcony for us to dry our washing! If you don't want/need the Disney view, then the standard rooms really are fine. And HoJos beds and bedding are fabulous. But I agree with others - since they stopped discounting so heavily, we've been elsewhere.

Just booked a last minute trip at HoJo for my early birthday trip !! I had just remembered they offered an AP discount and was shocked it was available for my nights and ended up a good $100 -$150 cheaper than all the other walkable options I had looked into !
Long time AP holders but first time HoJo Anaheim stay and I'm excited to try it after all the consistently positive feedback over the years :)
