and used the UMP tickets. How do they work the overlapping of tickets for the last day of the first hotel stay and the first day of the new hotel?

I think Helen means UPH (Ultimate Park Hopper) tickets. If you are staying at two resorts, the best way to do it is this. At least one of your reservations will need to be room only. Let's say the second reservation. You can book a package for the fist hotel and enjoy your stay. When you go check in to the second hotel (your room only ressie), you can purchase the UPH tickets and ask the CM to drop the first day off of your ticket. This way you won't have overlapping tickets. If you were to book both reservations as packages, then there is no way to take off the first or last day of the stay. Does this make sense?

Brian has it right as far as our experience went - we rented DVC for 3 nights and they droppped our check out day from UPH with no problem - then checked into AKL early AM for 3 night package and had new tickets activated there. The only problem was that it was a bit more expensive than if we had purchased 6night/7day UPH from one hotel, even though we had dropped one day - but there was no way around that that we could find - and we definitely wanted the flexibility of UPH for that trip.

Thank you, yes I did mean the ultimate park hopper, I was using the older unlimited magic pass for the ump. They change the names and I do not adapt!
..
It does make it more expensive to do the uph for both hotels, but I do enjoy the flexability the uph provides, especially since we are going with 3 teenagers. I like the idea of not buying tickets for one stay until you are there, and then dropping a day.
.
Thank you for your help

My experience has been that the resorts will sell you whatever pass you want for whatever number of days you want at the time you check in. When you check in, try to get just one UPH pass for the ENTIRE trip - if the reservation agent balks, explain that you are switching hotels and show them your confirmation for the other hotel.... if necessary, ask for a manager and get some help. I would NOT buy two UPMs because it is, as someone else points out, more expensive that just buying one, because the cost per day decreases incrementally the more days you buy.
