For those who have lost jobs

She did just that..but because her husband is employed...they won't offer her any assistance. It was a county hospital in the county that she lives in too. They have a payment plan..but there was no reduction in the charge.

Oh and our insurance premium went from $1,350 a month to $1,532. a month as of July lst. :headache:for family coverage. My daughter just reached the age where she's not covered any longer. Thank goodness she got a job with a nationwide daycare company and they just now will provide health care for her. So it won't be an issue for her.
Our older son coverage is through his job.Thank goodness..and because he has a great union..his coverage for perscriptions and the like is great.

It's small business' like us that are dying under the costs involved with these kinds of premiums. How are we expected to offer this type of health care coverge to employees and still stay profitable. It's getting tougher every year. :headache:
My younger son wants to go into business for himself. I just don't see.

Right, Phyllis. And during the election, the talk was to REQUIRE all small businesses to provide health insurance to all their employees. Talk about putting a mom and pop operation down the tubes.....

It wasn't that long ago we were only allowed to deduct 10% of our health insurance premiums from our taxes as small business owners. IBM, on the other hand, could deduct !00%.

We will not be in business if we have to do that. We are hanging on by a thread at this point..that will be the final nail in the coffin.
I honestly don't know what the solution is. Only I think Al is right..there are a good many people that this doesn't effect because they're covered by their jobs (big companies) and don't give it too much thought one way or the other. Mean while small business is going down the tubes.

I will tell you when I was in Emergency with Bob back in March..I was amazed
at the number of people who came in with little ones with ear infections or sore throats. Not with EMERGENCIES. The emergency room was used as a pediatricians office. They were non English speaking and I assume they were without health insurance. This adds a tremendous burden to the system. I mean you can't turn someone away...I don't want to see a child suffer..but Jeeze, I don't want to pay their health care either.
There's got to be a better way, I just don't have a clue what it would be. Governement run health care doesn't sound like an option for the small business owner either. So what do you do?.
My brother in-law..moved to Canada. Of course his wife is French Canadian, and they've always owned property there. So when it was time to retire..that's where they went. I'm thinking it's too cold for me there!

My Mom went to the health department a few weeks ago with hip pain that has been bothering her for a year. The Dr. there ordered and MRI for her hip and lower back. The Dr. also gave her the name of a few places to schedule her MRI. She called the first place, which was St. Vincent's Hospital in Jax, FL to inquire. When she told them she had no insurance, thy told her she would have to bring CASH the day before her apoointment! I don't remember the exact amount, but it was over $5000. They absolutely would NOT accept a check, money order, or even a credit card!!!!! Okay, we marked that one off the list. Called the next place. Can't remember the name of it, but they specialize in open MRI, which was nice for my Mom because she is a large woman. Again, explained her no-insurance situation. They told her it would be $500 for hip and $500 for lower back. They also would take any form of payment. She specifically asked about cash and the woman said to her, "good grief, who in the world would carrry around $1000 in cash." When she arrived to this MRI center, (darnit, I wish I could remember the name) she said it was NICE! She expected a dirty dump, but it was anything but. VERY clean with private rooms, private restrooms, and friendly staff to boot!

Last year, I had an MRI on my head and neck after a bicycle accident. The total was around $7000 and the insurance "allowed" $1200. It went toward our deductible and we paid it. When I called to pay our bill, I asked the hospital if I had not insurance, would I have had to pay the $7000. I was told...YEP! My MRI was done in a hospital that was closed down with just a few Dr. offices left. It was dirty and the guys who did my procedure made me very uncomfortable! That hospital is set to undergo complete demolition and rebuilding...Just FYI.

???????????????

Oh and I don't know what the answer to the health care crisis is either, but government run health care is NOT the answer.

In addition to the 9.5% unemployment rate read this from CNN:

The so-called underemployment rate, which counts those who are working part-time jobs because they couldn't find a full-time position as well as discouraged job seekers who have stopped looking for work, rose to a record high 16.5%.

That means a combined rate of 26% unemployed & underemployed in the country. YIKES
