I would rather travel (fly) with a newborn than a 1 year old any day!
We took our son when he was 5 months old to Cancun and he was a dream. He was not mobile yet and loved hanging out in the stroller, playing in the pool, and sitting with us in the shade. He only woke one time a night at that point. When he was one, I flew solo with him with connecting flights to visit my sister. It was straight up hell. He could not sit still! I felt bad for him being cooped up for so long in the plane.
I did a trip to WDW with my daughter when she was 4 months. Again, she was a dream and slept in the stroller most of the time. A year later we went back when she was about 15 months. She was much harder at that age.
