For those who fly to WDW with babies...

I would rather travel (fly) with a newborn than a 1 year old any day!

We took our son when he was 5 months old to Cancun and he was a dream. He was not mobile yet and loved hanging out in the stroller, playing in the pool, and sitting with us in the shade. He only woke one time a night at that point. When he was one, I flew solo with him with connecting flights to visit my sister. It was straight up hell. He could not sit still! I felt bad for him being cooped up for so long in the plane.

I did a trip to WDW with my daughter when she was 4 months. Again, she was a dream and slept in the stroller most of the time. A year later we went back when she was about 15 months. She was much harder at that age.

I have taken both a 5 month old and a 7 month old to Disney. It was super easy with both. They would nap either on our back (in a carrier) or in the stroller. They were easily portable. They were both crawling/scooting by then, but they were both happy to snuggle up as well.

Flying with a non-mobile baby is super easy, I've flown with a 4 week old, an 8 week old (more then once), a 3 month old, a 5 month old, etc. I find it much easier to fly with them when they are non-mobile. A 12 month old to 24 month old actually are the most annoying to fly with, because they squirm and don't understand why they can't be down, and if you go lap child, you end up with no good place to put them either.

I would guess that you will not want to leave your new baby for a week when they are that little and if you are nursing, going a week without nursing, even with pumping will be a pain. Honestly it will most likely be more of a pain then taking a portable baby.

I just wanted to say we go about twice a year starting when my first son was 7 months old. I have food allergies so it’s easier for us. With our 2nd son, we took him when he was 2 months old, 8 months old, and again just after he turns 1 year. Our first son was pretty easy, but the 2nd was more challenging. Our 2nd has milk protein allergy and severe reflux so we really didn’t feel comfortable with anyone watching him (and I think they would have been nervous too). My son is almost 1 and has gone to therapy for eating… so still it would be hard for anyone to watch him.

Even with all that we had fun but took our time and just had fun being with our family. He still woke in the middle of the night for feedings but we would be tired at home or on vacation. Also, he was/is an awful eater… but we knew it might mean more stops. If you have to bottle feed, take a thermos so you can keep warm water for formula. Also, I bought a carrier and took/rented strollers. I would wear him in lines (and on the bus to/from parks) or when he was fussy and put him in the stroller at other times. It’s very doable depending on expectations. When they are 6 months then you pack some extra solid foods for them or pay more and buy them at the resorts (or ship it). But I would suggest wearing baby on the bus in case you have to stand. Flights are ok if you can give them a pacifier and try to feed them during take-off and landing. We love Disney because we gate check our stroller and when we get to FL we just pick the stroller up and go straight to the bus! If we went anywhere else we would need to bring car seats etc. That is VERY nice with young children.

Also, even though we were tired it wasn’t too bad since we had less responsibility on vacation. We went to bed earlier and if baby slept in so did we. That wasn’t possible at home with work, preschool, etc.

Last year our baby girl was 11 months old as well and it was a blast! Wouldn't have changed it for anything!

We havent taken our son to Disney yet (going for his 3rd bday in Nov) but we have flown a lot. His first flight was at 3 months old. I think he slept the whole time? 6 months was nice because he could sit up and was still interested in toys. When he was 11 months he was still really good, but it was definitely a whole lot different! He wasn't into toys, he just wanted to explore! There's not a lot of exploring to be done in an airplane seat. However, that was the first time that we didn't luck out and get an aisle to ourselves, so that may have had something to do with it.

We did an all inclusive when he was 2 and brought his car seat on the plane. It was heaven! He slept both ways, and my husband and I even got drinks and rented a movie! He napped on the beach, was great in the car when we went sight seeing, and was so well behaved in the restaurants.

I will say that 3 years in, I am still exhausted. My son has never slept well, so try not to put your life on hold too much because that's just going to make you go insane! As long as you and your husband are having a good time, you baby will have a good time. So pick a place you're going to be the most relaxed at and enjoy!

Also, the best advice I received for travelling with a young child is to hide their favorite toys before the trip! Voila, brand new again and you *know* they like them. Nothing worse than buying new toys for novelty and your kid hating them.
