Where can you get a good glass or bottle of merlot?
I very much enjoy merlot as it is the only wine that does not give me any trace of a headache and I like the taste better than any other alcohol. I do not want to drink much but with the cost of drinks down there do not want to splurge on something I will dislike.

Most Table Service sit down restaurants should have a decent Merlot option. With the Signiture locations having the best choices. We we were able to by wine at our resort (Cab drinkers), although I'd seriously consider seeing if you can get some wine glasses from the resort for you room, the plastic cup isn't the greatest. I also heard on the Dis that the AK Lodge gift shop has one of the better selections of wine to purchase.

Oh and the gift shops have Baily's. Nothing is better at the end of a long park day than eating that left over desert with some Baily's & coffee in the room for a bedtime snack!

I'm a big wine geek, so I always check out the wine selections. Flying Fish Cafe has a great wine list, with several merlots by the glass and bottle. I think they might also have a merlot flight (three small glasses, so you can sample different styles). California Grill also has several selections. Victoria & Alberts has the largest selection of merlots by far, probably 20 or so; mostly in the cost-is-no-object category.

Some of the resort gift shops have a (limited) selection of wine. Nothing special and you are going to pay for it ;). Is it to drink in your room when you get back from the parks? I don't know if it's practical to bring a bottle or two with you from home(?) Or perhaps even a trip out to get one after you arrive. I am a wine drinker, and a fairly selective one at that  however I tend not to buy wine at Disney except in a TS restaurant. We all know that not all merlot is equal ;) I think for a 'decent' glass you need to head for the higher end restaurants.

From the California Grill wine list:

Cycles Gladiator, Central Coast
Mackenzie, Sonoma County
Gundlach Bundschu, Sonoma
Keenan, Napa
Rutherford Hill, Napa

The also have a "reserve" list that has several merlots. Sorry I don't have a copy of that.

And as Pygoplites suggests, Flying Fish has a fine wine list.

Jiko's wine list was pretty decent.

and of course V&A

being a CA wine snob the wines available in France/Epcot were meh but better than most you can get outside of Monterey County.

The kitchen store in DTD has a wine selection. Shula's also has a very good wine list.

Thanks everyone. May purchase something off of Disney property for the room as we will have a fridge in room. If we make an ADR somewhere I certainly have an idea of which places I would be more inclined to order a glass or two. I am still learning about wine so I really appreciate the input :)

I was going to tell you that the best bottle of merlot will be the one you bring with you from home. :lmao:

Hmmm...I didn't realize that. This is the first time we won't have a car, and usually we bring beer/wine from home. I was thinking that our only option was going to be whatever the shop at Pop has, but we are planning on going to DTD for dinner our first night, and WPE is across from that store, I believe, so I will have to check it out....

Jiko has an excellent wine selection, predominantly (if not almost entirely) consisting of South African wines. I prefer S. African whites over their reds, but I'm sure you could find some good Merlots to choose from at Jiko. Artist Point also has a topnotch wine list, and they're likely to have more of the style Merlot you're looking for than Jiko as their wines come from Washington and Oregon and tend to be more "consumer" friendly. As others have said, pretty much any signature or high end restaurant ought to above average selections, and some of the middle range restaurants might surprise you, as well. Good luck! :thumbsup2

The Cycles Gladiator, Central Coast merlot at the California Grill has become my favorite to drink at home too!
