what do you think or feel about possible hurricanes? Are you still going? Are you getting insurance for your trip? Please feel free to say whatever. It might just help someone be ok with still going. :)

I live here but canceled my Labor Day trip due to the lack of gas in my city even though the goverment says there is plenty.. My next trip is Oct 1-4th & will be going to MNSSHP. Since I am here, I don't take out trip insurance. If I were traveling far with airfare etc.. I think I would. Sept is peak month & there are still some predicted storms left... but you really cannot tell what will happen. Take your chance but get the insurance....

We go every year in Oct. and haven't really worried about hurricanes. You are coming up on the tale end of the season. I usually watch the week before our trip, but I haven't ever thought about canceling our trip. We are going to be at WDW on Oct. 8-16.

We're leaving in two days and the only thing I'm concerned is that my flight is changed or my rental car gone - the regular concerns of a trip.

If a hurricane comes towards FL this week, I'm pretty certain we'll leave. However I'm there through next saturday and the forecast looks great! - Typical Sept FL weather - high 80's chance of Thunderstorm.

We too are going the first week of Oct. This will be our 3 trip during the month of Oct. and we've never had any problems with hurricanes. So we will definitely still be going.

:cheer2: 27 days and counting
:earsgirl: princess:

We had a room only reservation for check-in last Thurs. 8/25/05. That morning Katrina came upon our doorstep (luckily only as a Cat 1), but I wasn't going to drive 3 hrs in any type of storm like that. I called that morning and was able to postpone for check-in on Sunday 8/28/05 instead (after speaking with someone an hr or 2 earlier who told me that wasn't available at that rate).

Since we live in South FL (about a 3 hr drive), we are more flexible getting back and forth to WDW. Not sure how the airlines are but I do know if there is any type of hurricane warning/watch they're "usually" flexible as well.

You need to really keep in touch with the weather. I even did that but Katrina really snuck up on us. Just be prepared to be flexible. Try to have a 2nd set of dates or a back-up plan in mind so you won't be disappointed if it does turn out that there's a tropical system brewing. Keep in mind, even a tropical depression can make for a very wet and sometimes stormy trip this time of year.

A Mickeyfan-sorry to hear you had to cancel your trip. Is gas really that scarce over on the west coast? Well, at least you're going in early Oct. so not too far away :earboy2:

Absolutely going. We leave in 2 weeks. I just feel that last year was a fluke and Orlando is so far inland that I'm not too worried. We have looked forward to this for a year...everything is in place, trip insurance was purchased up front so we have plans to be flying down 14 days from now. Can't wait. :cool1:

I am going, it is a bright spot in our lives. I cant explain the situation we are living in, but a slice has to do with my mom almost died last year (one year in an ICU hospital/) and she desperately wanted to experience Disney with us and DD 8... the trip is paid for... plane tickets, everything...

watching the horrors on the news, I can barely leave the TV, wondering, how are those fireman and families that were under siege, I cannot drink a glass of water, or take a shower without praying that someone hears the prayers of those without... and I have no connections to New Orleans, I'm just an American in tears... and grateful for the heart of Texas...

So we have not cancelled our plans, but it is so hard as each sun sets on knowing the horrors of the suffering in NO... knowing and reading posts from friends/ loved ones that are still suffering in attics, from edlerly, and mentally handicapped,

:sunny: My family leaves in 10 days. So far it looks just like thunderstorms and warm weather. We don't have trip insurance. But are looking for the bright skies ahead! :sunny:

We go in Sept. every year. We have fled 2 hurricanes in 5 years, but that doesn't stop us. The crowds are low, the weather is always great - I love going in Sept.

Still going....... and no trip ins.
I feel awful that I am going to Disney World after what all of those people down south are going through.

we leave in 5 days and yes I bought the trip insurance just to be safe. Now I just have to figaur out if we are going to have a hard time finding gas along I-75. Wish us luck.

First week of October, still going.

I plan to see what I can do at the shealters tomorrow. We are taking in a lot of sick people here in Austin and I was thinking of maybe seeing if they need people to sit with the people who are being brought in to the hospital, as I understand many times they were not able to have family come with them right away. To be sick and alone in a strange city after what all they have gone through- it breaks my heart.

We're going Oct. 6th thru 10th. No trip insurance. We went last year at this time and had great weather, well, one day of rain but we still had fun. Hopefully it will be fine. I'm a worrier by nature but that won't really start until a week or so before we go ;) !

We also leave in 12 days ... no trip insurance. We will go pretty much no matter what unless airline flights get canceled and a hurricane is bearing down on Florida. Keeping my fingers crossed that if that happens Disney will be flexible like in years past :umbrella:

This our fourth September going, and only one year last year was affected by a hurricane. We had to delay flying down by two days but we still went and had a blast for the days we were there. We were there 9/11 too, but of course that was just where we happened to be.

I know many got delayed last year and lost their trips due to hurricanes but that was a fluke year for Orlando and I honestly would not worry over that many ever coming through again in such a short time period.

We stay glued to the set and watch the rescue efforts in NO, and I am so sorry for those people. Both of us made contributions at work and we gave to the Red Cross too, trying to help out as best we could. I pray relief soon comes for those poor people.

I am sorry to hear so many have had to cancel trips due to the gas prices and shortages too, not to mention Katrina. We had planned on driving but had decided to fly in August and bought airline tickets several weeks ago now..I hope you can soon reschedule and enjoy your trips.

September is a wonderful month to visit, it is hot and you get afternoon rains but they do not last long...go and enjoy!!

We have plans for the first week in October with trip insurance. I live about 3 hours west of NOLA along I-10. (I've volunteered at the local shelter for a few hours. Plus my aunt is in town from NOLA, so we're helping her with food and money.)

We are still planning to go. This is the first time we've driven - I'm not too sure how our route will change due to damage to the interstate.

As long as the plane flies we'll be there in two weeks (Sept 17-24th). I say that, but I am a RN at a state psychiatric hospital here in Texas and just read in my e-mail, that we may be getting an influx of patients from the Lousiana psychiatric hospitals and if we do, that we may be called in to work this weekend and that comp days may be cancelled for the next few weeks. They brought a bunch of extra beds in today and placed them in every available unit, including ours.

I bought trip insurace, because of hurricane season, but am not sure if it will cover if I have to cancel due to work issues with the hurricane evacuees, especially since I live in Texas and not Louisiana. Anyone know?

I see people posting about trip insurance...it's useless against hurricanes anyway (you will find most do not reimburse for weather/"acts of God"). So don't sweat it if you don't have it.

Of course I'm still going. To begin with, WDW is pretty far in-land, so I'm not worried about a cat 5 hitting. So safety-wise, I'm not worried.

As to vacation plans and financially, still not a problem. I fly JetBlue, and they have responded wonderfully to any crisis - always dropping the change fee, and not charging the difference in fares as is normal, so long as there is room on the flight. And Disney...well, I know they are good at taking care of people too. If we can't leave, I don't expect a big bill for the extra time.

Fear shouldn't keep us from doing anything, let alone visiting the happiest place on earth!

N.E.D.
