For those who are going in September and October...

I see people posting about trip insurance...it's useless against hurricanes anyway (you will find most do not reimburse for weather/"acts of God"). So don't sweat it if you don't have it.
this is true. we were made to take out insurance (otherwise they wouldn't sell the holiday), and upgraded to gold cover, and no insurace covers you for 'an act of god'. we are due to fly out on 29 sept for three weeks. a weather report said last night that they expect another 3 hurricanes in the next 2 months. so theres a pretty good chance that this could happen when we're away, but we're still going. - just have to keep everything crossed. :worried:

These are great. Keep them coming... :)

This will be our first trip to Disney with our miracle DD2. I wouldn't miss it. Yes I do have trip insurance, we leave OK on the 19th of Sept. That being said, when we get back we are looking at me being deployed to Louisiana. I am critical care RN and my hospital is sending a group down every two weeks. My husband is a government worker with environmental certs and often gets sent for post disaster clean up. No word yet if he'll have to go.

I feel like going to Disney will help us get through what we will encounter. I know that sounds selfish but we've been through some tough situations in the past 10 years with disasters, either natural or man made and you have to take time out for your self and your family, that has to come first even though your heart and head tells you the relief efforts should.

We went last September for our first trip to WDW. And were scheduled to leave the Sunday before Labor Day, well that's when Frances came through so our flight of course was cancelled and we postponed our trip for 1 week. This January we scheduled our vacation and we actually leave in the morning  and I have to say I have worried about it but it looks like for now it'll be ok. The threat is there this time of year but this is about the only time that DH can go due to his job, so that really narrows the field down. We did purchase travel insurance and the only reason we did was a couple of years ago a friend and I were going on a cruise and her grandfather was sick and we knew that he might not make it before our trip. You never know what can happen so trip insurance is just a gamble as to whether or not you will need it.

We are going, but just purchased insurance, so don't worry everyone, nothing will happen now that we've spent the money on it :)

Check with your travel ins. policy about coverage in regards to weather. Mine covers the weather which causes complete cessation of services of my common carrier for at least 24 hours. It also reimburses me for certain additional expenses for accomodations, transportation and meals and/or unused non-refundable expenses for my trip if my trip is delayed for more than 5 hours. It covers certain expenses if my travel suppliers makes a change in my itinerary after my scheduled departure date which prevents me from participating in an event or activity. That in addition to baggage delay or loss, illness, and the other standard insurance stuff, and unlike Disney's coverage, it includes terrorism, althoug heaven forbid any country take advantage of us now. It was cheaper than Disney's insurance, too, and can be bought up to the day before you leave, although I was worried they wouldn't sell it to me the day before I left if there was a Cat. 5 bearing down on the coast the day before I left, so I went ahead and bought it now.

I wasn't really planning on buying it, but with all of the refugees now, (we're in Texas), and the disasters that lie between us and Disney, we thought it best to be covered as best as we can. Here's hoping we won't need it!

We're still going, and I always buy trip insurance when I travel in August and/or September on a pre-paid trip with a more than $1000 value.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

We're still going too - Sept 29-Oct 8. Did not buy trip insurance. We're flying SWA so I can make changes without penalty (I believe), and I also believe WDW will work with me in rescheduling my dates if they have another hurricane come that way (heaven forbid). Here's hoping we've seen the worst for this year (and for many years to come)! :grouphug:

I am still going, 17 more days! I have been looking forward to this for a long time, so I don't want to cancel, and I did buy trip insurance.

In 41 days, as a matter of fact!

We didn't buy trip insurance because the fee to reschedule is $200, which is the same price as the insurance. And if we reschedule because there is a huge hurricane coming straight at Florida then American Airlines usually will waive the change fee on the tickets. My bosses cancelled a trip to Miami earlier this year because of the hurricane and there was no fee.

Like others have said, Orlando is far enough inland that I feel pretty good about it.

We're going from 9/16 to 9/25. We bought the trip insurance also. Basically, if the plane's flying - Manchester, NH to MCO - I'll be on it. It will have to be a pretty big storm to keep me home. Fingers are crossed that I don't have to make the decision.

And, of course, my thoughts and prayers are with all the victims of Katrina.

We are going from Sept. 30th to Oct.8th and it would take an "act of god" to keep us from going on this trip. This will be our family's first trip to DW. I have not been in 17 years and dw has not been in 14 years, dd9 and dd1 have never been. Fingers crossed. Do feel kind of weird staying at POFQ now though.

We'll be honeymooning the first week of Oct and short of death (mine or new DH's) were going. Actually we'd still go even if it wasn't our honeymoon trip. Nothing can keep me from the World :)

I'm skedded for Sept 17 to the 24th. And I'm staying at POFQ, which has me feeling kinda sad and wierd. Like a lot of other folks, I have been glued to my tv set, watching the ongoing misery in NOLA, and praying like crazy for the folks trapped down there.

I bought trip insurance because last year when I was down there with mom for a 7-day land/cruise vacation, hurricane Frances came through and laid waste to all our plans. Oh, and my mom's beloved cockatiel became deathly ill after we boarded the ship.

In short, it was not the fun-filled, relaxing time we had envisioned. I'm hoping for better results this year.

Right now, my biggest worry is not hurricanes, but rather that my airline, Delta, will go bankrupt before or during my trip. What happens if your airline goes bankrupt and you have tickets to fly? Do you stand out on the tarmac and flap your arms?

I love going in September, but dang! this is stressful...

I never make vacations for August and Sept. Oct is our aniv and this is when we usually go on vacation.

Well if your airline goes bankrupt you are out your tickets to fly anywhere at that moment. I do think there is a period where you can get a refund after this event has happened. Not sure tho. So yes your right....stand out on the tarmac and start flapping those wings. I think that is basiclly what happened with Jetsgo? I think that was the name of the airline that folded up last year and left thousands and thousands of people stranded.

That's too funny :rotfl:

We are going to be at the World from the 16-23. I am worried about the weather...Nah, there is nothing I can do about it anyway. My DW, DSs, mom, dad, and brother are all going. No way are we cancelling.

Heres hoping for great weather :sunny: and a great time for all. :cool1:

we are going first week of Oct. If for some reason the planes are not flying than we will jump in our car for the 24hr drive.
We have never taken out insurance ( guess i am a gambler  )

We are going in 14 days (Sept. 17-24). We bought insurance just to be on the safe side but we are hoping for the best (no hurricanes). We aren't really trying to think about the possibilities but if weather was threatening we would reschedule our trip but lose money switching our airline tickets.

Hoping for :sunny: skies the week of Sept.17-24

For all those who have commented on Orlando being "far enough inland" - Katrina was a catagory 3 at 100 miles inland in Mississippi - it's still a very, very dangerous storm. Luckily I live close to be really flexible with my plans so I don't purchase insurance. Hopefully we'll be luckier this year than last year!!
