How in the heck did you pry off the cap?!?!?!? I am trying with all of my might to get it off and it is not working. I am trying to refill it with something else until I go to the store but I might have to break down and go earlier.

True, you're not supposed to be able to refill the bottle. Must buy new bottle. They know when they have us don't they?

Can't take the old cap off.

What I did was to cut another hole. On the bottom of the bottle (which is the top when it's inserted) I cut a hole shaped like I_I that, so it had a little flap. Refilled it, then put some tape over the flap to keep it shut. I admit, I used a steak knife to cut the flap, although I would not recommend doing so.

I tried pliers and it did not budge. I just have no arm stregth. I'll just cut the flap and that will get me by until this weekend. Thanks!

Once you've cut a flap, just keep refilling it yourself! Any cleaner will do, and it costs so much less than buying the refills. I have a Clorox Ready Mop and I've never bought a refill. Their bottles are easy to refill, though.

I've heard the Clorax version has a cap that is much easier to take off, and where the cloths go you can snap other cloths on. After my Swifter is done, I may look into that instead. I want one I can refill on my own!

Part of the reason for doing this is it saves money and part because you can use reusable cloths and that's better for the environment. :)

What do you use to refill it? I have the clorox mop and will be needing a refill on both the cloths and solution and would love a cheaper way to fill them??? Thanks for your help:goodvibes

I don't understand the point of using a Swiffer Wet Jet if you're not going to use the solution/pads that go with it :confused3 . Why don't you just use a regular mop and bucket?

I think you could use any multipurpose cleaner or make your own. Maybe diluted Simple Green? I haven't made my own cleaners yet. I wouldn't use anything that needs to be rinsed though.

For the cloths, you can use rags or buy microfiber cloths to use, if you don't mind a little extra laundry.

Speaking for myself. it's more convenient to pull out a pre-loaded Swiffer Wet Jet, pop on a cleaning cloth and address the occasional drip or spill than it is to haul out a the heavy bucket and mop.

I've pried the lid off of a number of those one-use bottles in order to refill them. It does take some extra wrist strength to do it, so I'm thinking that I'll try the flap method next time.

I personally like the product.. the wet jet, no bending over, good for light jobs, ect. I just modified it, to make it better in my mind. I did this by using a reusable pad that cost less than one box of pads, and refill the bottle at the fraction of the price, with an environmentally better cleaner.

So, that's it. Take a product, and make it better. That's how most items were created, right?

Could you make a hole in the other end? You know, you insert the cap, so the hole would actually be in the bottom of the bottle, which becomes the top when its flipped around. Then cover it with a piece of duct tape? :confused3

I don't refill the bottle! I just use a spray bottle filled with cleaner, spray the floor in sections, then go over it with the wet jet. I have a great, environmentally friendly cleaner that I like better than the Wet Jet solution, so it works great. I tried to pry the cover off the swiffer bottle, but couldn't get it off. This works just fine!

I would think it is obvious that a Swiffer Wet Jet is easier and simpler to use than an old fashioned mop and bucket (even considering the time to make homemade cleaning solution).

I don't like the disposable Swiffer pads because they don't clean the floor very well. I have the Orange Glo reusable mopping pad that cleans much better, and when I'm done, I throw it in with a load of towels. I paid less for that reusable OG pad than for a box of 10 disposable swiffer pads, and it doesn't take up enough room in a load of wash to be a burden.

I just looked up the Orange Glo reusable mopping pad and I just have a question or two if you don't mind because while I love the convenience of the Swiffer Wet Jet (as we now have ALL hardwood floors) I don't think it cleans very well.

On the website it says to: "Finally, dampen the ORANGE GLO® Micro Fiber Mop with water and proceed to clean your floors." Are you not to use any cleaner?

Secondly, if you can use cleaner I take it there is no way to attach cleaner to the mop like the wet jet is that right? I'm just assuming that since they want you to just wet the pad and clean the floor? I can't get a full picture of the product from the website.

Like I said, I LOVE  the convenience of my Wet Jet I just hate that I don't feel like my floors are ever clean so if I can find something that will clean better, I'm all for it! :thumbsup2

I have the OrangeGlo cleaner (spray) and use a microfiber mop I already had. It works pretty well. Of course, with my kids, it doesn't stay pretty very long.....

I only have one floor to wash (we bought a house full of carpet-UGH!), so using the Clorox mop is super easy. I put a rag on the bottom, and I refilled the bottle with a Melaluca cleaner that my MIL gave me. Works great! No mop or bucket, no rinsing, and the rag goes in the next load of towels or jeans. You can also use white vinegar and water instead of a cleaner for vinyl floors. It leaves no residue, and helps to remove any build up from other cleaners.
