For those that have refilled a Swiffer Wet Jet container...

I just looked up the Orange Glo reusable mopping pad and I just have a question or two if you don't mind because while I love the convenience of the Swiffer Wet Jet (as we now have ALL hardwood floors) I don't think it cleans very well.

On the website it says to: "Finally, dampen the ORANGE GLO® Micro Fiber Mop with water and proceed to clean your floors." Are you not to use any cleaner?

Secondly, if you can use cleaner I take it there is no way to attach cleaner to the mop like the wet jet is that right? I'm just assuming that since they want you to just wet the pad and clean the floor? I can't get a full picture of the product from the website.

Like I said, I LOVE the convenience of my Wet Jet I just hate that I don't feel like my floors are ever clean so if I can find something that will clean better, I'm all for it!

I would think it is obvious that a Swiffer Wet Jet is easier and simpler to use than an old fashioned mop and bucket (even considering the time to make homemade cleaning solution).

I don't like the disposable Swiffer pads because they don't clean the floor very well. I have the Orange Glo reusable mopping pad that cleans much better, and when I'm done, I throw it in with a load of towels. I paid less for that reusable OG pad than for a box of 10 disposable swiffer pads, and it doesn't take up enough room in a load of wash to be a burden.

My point was that this is a budget board yet people are spending $ on a product they're not even using as intended. If you want a reusable cloth mop and different cleaner than why not just buy that in the first place ? As far as how the Swiffer cleans, I've used my for years and it does a get job. I've even tested areas just to be sure and it's getting up all the dirt. I think people just want to believe that whatever they're doing is the best.

Speaking just for me, I bought the wet jet as an alternative to the old mop/bucket. I did purchase the refill solutions a few times, but decided I didn't want to spend that money anymore. Since I already had the wet jet, I didn't want to purchase yet another piece of equipment just because I wanted to use a different cleaner (I have an environmentally safe cleaner concentrate that mixes with water, so it's pretty economical as well). So, from a budget standpoint, I used what I already had, and modified it to my current needs.

I put the Orange Glo cloth on my Swiffer Wet Jet. The cloth sticks to the velcro strips on the bottom of the SWJ.

I have all ceramic tile flooring without any hardwood so I don't know about that. It sounds like you've been using the SWJ already though. I just bought the OG cloth and started using it. It has more "traction" than those disposable SWJ clothes so spots that I would have to really scrub (by putting weight on the SWJ and go over a couple of times) come right up on the first pass with the OG cloth.

I've been using the SWJ solution because I had a good coupon and I took them to a store that doubles coupons. I got the solution for about 75 cents a bottle, and I stocked up. I'm no where near running out anytime soon, but when I do run out, I will refill a bottle with some Mr. Clean or something.

How do you attached the reusable cloth to the wet jet? The disposable pads have a velcro thing on them that make them stick to the bottom of the wet jet. We go through the pads like water since we clean the kitchen, 3 bathrooms and occasionally the wood floors in the living room.

I'm also going to refill the bottle next time.

Last weekend DH pried off the top of our Lysol Automatic Shower cleaner and I refilled it with the automatic shower cleaner solution from the Dollar store. I didn't watch DH take off the cap, but he didn't complain it was difficult. How does that compare to the wet jet cap??

Using a SWJ is going to cost money to use either way. A reusable OG cloth costs $4.96 at Wal-Mart and a box of SWJ disposable pads costs close to $6 at my local WM.

A SWJ is "intended" to be used for mopping the floor. I'm not following your logic that those of us who don't use the SWJ refills aren't using the SWJ as "intended."

I have a Bissel Steam Mop that I use for deep cleaning, so I use the cloth pad from that. It fits perfectly and the velcro will grab the cloth. I have also used an old burp cloth.

I am only refilling the bottle to get me by until I can get a new one. But I am using it for the intended purpose: cleaning my floors. I am simply putting in a cheaper cleaner into the bottle. I hate that the pads for the Wet Jet leaves streaks on my floor, so that is why I use a cloth pad. I am still using the cleaner and mopping my floor, so I am still using it for the intended purpose. I just tweaked it to fit my needs.

Is the intention not "to clean your floor, quickly and easily"? That's what I use mine for. I just altered it to better fit my needs.

You're telling me, that you only use products as they were specifically designed for?

Do you ever take a plastic walmart/grocery bag, and use it as a trash bag? Why not just buy more trash bags?

I bought our wetjet, initially because it looked much easier than a traditional mop and bucket, and indeed it was. Then, after using it, I thought to myself, how could I improve on this product. Improvements to me, were using a reusable cloth to clean with, that not only does a better job scrubbing, but was cheaper than a box of swiffer pads, and was a one time cost. Also, the cleaning solution as been proven to cause problems with pets, dogs walking across the floor, and then licking their paws, have gotten sick. Also, commercial cleaners leave a very slight sticky residue, that attracts dirt. So, I was cleaning more often, paying more for cleaners. Now, I make my own, environmental and pet friendly cleaner. Just simple vinegar and water. Much cheaper.

*my dogs never got sick, but I read about others, and wasn't willing to risk it. Truth or no truth to the story.

So, to say that it isn't appropriate for the budget board is just ludicrous. I have saved a TON of money, throwing the extras in my change jug for Disney, by taking a product that I enjoy, and tweeking it to fit the needs of my family and budget.

If my wetjet ever broke, I would buy another in an instant, and again, use my orange glow reusable cloth, and my own cleaner.

How did you get new solution in the wet jet container? Did prying the cap off work? Did the cap fit back on again after?

I just picked up the OG washable pads at Shaws in NH - they were marked 50% off - clearance sale - so I grabbed 3. They do extend out about 2" on each side of the mop but the velcro does stick and they do work much better than the SWJ especially on tile. Thank you guys for all the great ideas! I love all the tips and information I get!

I have refilled my Swiffer Wet Jet bottle many times. I had to pry the lid off the first time, but once it is off, it screws back on and off effortlessly. I put a little liquid Lysol and water in it and use that to mop. It is WAY cheaper than a bunch of bottles of refill solution.

I guess part of your problem is in assuming everyone who has a swiffer paid full price for it, and it was more expensive than some other reusable cloth mop. My Swiffer wet jet was free (the previous owner left it in the house when we bought it, along with half a box of the pads and a quarter bottle of cleaning solution). After I finished the box of pads, I cut an old wash cloth in half and used that instead of the disposable pads b/c it is cheaper and less waste. I still buy the bottles of the solution when they are on sale but I bought 2 bottles 2 years ago and still have some left in the second bottle.
When I finish this bottle, I may try to refil it with another cleaning solution if I don't find a sale on Swiffer cleaner soon.

Just thought I would add a suggestion for replacement pads that are natural and earth friendly. Felt an old wool sweater by washing it in very hot water and dry on hot. The cut it up in to pad sized pieces. It won't unravel and can just be thrown in the wash.
