How did you settle on the final dollar amount? We will be in a Grand Villa in January, 4 members from each family, all adults. What would be a fair/reasonable way to arrive at the amount.

I know many of you would never dream of doing this, and love having all your family and treating them to their vacation, but this isn't what we are doing, so I am only interested in hearing from those that have worked out something financially.

One time my BIL bought us our park tickets 2 adult and 2 children with his military discount and another time friends gave us $400 for 5 nights in a studio. Another time we just had friends buy us 1 dinner. It is always tough. Good luck

I've given this some thought.

I think charging them as if they were in a studio per bedroom (minus the master) would certainly be a bargain to them.

So if one group was in bedroom 2, charge that group the cost of a studio. If there is another group in bedroom 3, then charge them the cost of a studio as well.

By cost, you could calculate it as studio points x 10 or whatever, or go to the WDW website and charge them based on a studio booking. Studio points x 10 would be cheaper for them obviously.

It's just my thought, but others will certainly chime in.

Not family, but we have good friends that are coming along and paying us. We first agreed that they would pay our airfare (but I am concerned how much that will actually end up being for next year). Hubby and I have talked with each other and decided they should not have to kick in more than $1,200.00 total for 7 nights at AKV std view. We will be sharing a 2 bedroom, so it is as though they are getting a studio for $1200 or airfare for 4, whichever is cheaper. That is roughly $12 per point, but still only about $170/night for a room at the new Kidani Village.

We got our family to pay our annual dues - which they all thought was fair and reasonable. We bought in last year mid way through so we paid last years AD's and banked the points for this holiday. Figured we bought into DVC for us and so couldn't ask them to pay anything other than that years dues.

Good luck!

We had 7 of us in a 2bdrm at BWV 5/2007- let my parents ahve the master bdrm since the trip was in celebration of my mom's 75th b-day and my DD 7th b-day. I figured $12/point usage and re-adjusted the amounts for the adult and almost teen that slept on the pull out so they paid approx. a total of $150 less than my parents or we would have paid if we had rented the points. My DH, DD and I took the Studio lock-off of the 2bdrm.

We also booked rooms for my MIL & FIL in OKW and charged them $10/point usage. This was still cheaper for them than paying straight up rates.

Everyone contributed to groceries and paid their own restaurant costs after using our DDE card with us.

Hope this helps....

My parents join us almost every trip. They insist on paying us for the difference in points between and 1 and 2 bedroom villa. They pay $10.00 per point for the difference. This always ends up less than $100.00 a night for a BW view studio, which they feel is a great deal. In return, we usually can cover our flights with the money. Hope this helps.

just be sure to compare to a value and moderate.

won't charge family any more than a value.

For the first couple years, my parents paid for the cost of the value resorts each night. That is what they would have done if they had been on their own. It may not be the "fair" you were looking for, but we thought it was fair since we didn't want them to spend more on accommodations than they normally would. After a few years of that, we decided not to charge my parents and they offered to pay for the groceries. They usually helped out with the kids throughout the week, too. We usually shared the 2 BR with them for about 4-5 nights. They always stayed in the studio portion.

I have done 10/ point for friends before, but have never shared a villa and charged. I guess I would divide the number of points required for a GV by the number of families, and charge 10/point. It will take them about 2 minutes after arrival to realize that they got a great deal. Good luck-- hope you have fun!

I am not worried about them knowing it is a great deal. We all stayed in a Saratoga Grand Villa last January. During that stay there was one night not available on points, just cash, so they paid the cash night. However, this year we are at OKW, and it is not as "fancy" as the Saratoga Grand Villa, so I hope it is not a disappointment to them. OKW is our favorite DVC resort and it will be our first time in an OKW Grand Villa, but I know we are going to love it--just not sure about the rest of the family.

A grand villa at OKW in January for a week is 356 points. If you divide that by 4 families, it is 89 points per family. You can rent your points for $10 - $12 per point on the rent/trade board, so that would be $890 - $1,068 per family.

The other option is to do it by rack rates. The 2009 nightly rate for a GV at OKW is $1,205 + 12.5% tax. That's a total of $9,489 for the week. Divide by 4 = $2,372 per family.

Have a WONDERFUL trip!!! :thumbsup2

I haven't ever charged family but I did get a studio for a friend of mine last year before we went on the same DCL cruise. I charged $10 per point for the night at VWL and the friend was thrilled to get it.

We're going on our first AKV stay next week with my sister's family. They are paying the annual dues fees on the points that they are using (the difference between the points for the 2br sav. view that we'll be in and the 1br sav view that we would have booked for just the five of us)

When I have secured rooms for friends (studios) vacationing with us, they paid the point value x $5.00. So I was charging them just a little over what our annual dues are.

I usually charge the cost of my meal plan (normal stay of 5 nights or longer) although the way those prices are rising, that may not be a deal too much longer. :scared1:

We charged DD (4 family members) $5 a point for half the points for a 2 BR since we DH and myself would have only gotten a studio otherwise. Some trips we did not charge anyone at all but they were going to either pay Disney for a room at POR that year and it helped pay for our DDP.

We are going at the end of the month and have a studio for DH and I as well as DSis and BIL. We didn't want to charge them "full price" but didn't want to lose either (since we are all but giving up next year's points to take them). We ended up "renting" to them for about $6 per point. Affordable for them, but still making up for the use of points.

I was upfront all through planning about charging them, so it was not a surprise. I think $500 for a week at BCV is a bargain. You can't get All Star for that.

I just rented to my sister and bil for $9/point which I figured was a 10+% discount from what you can get on the renters' board. Plus, I laid out all of their options for them including staying offsite or at a normal resort.

It worked out well. They got discounted rooms and we got our passes paid for basically.

I just booked for a friend of mine who will be staying at OKW in a 2-bdrm for a week. I charged them $7/point. It is sort of the low end of the price on the rental board, but both parties in the case will go through the deal without any hassle. For March my mom is coming with us and she invited some friends. We are staying at AKV in a 2 bdrm. I still haven't figure out how I am going to charge them.
