For those that cook while on vacation

We ordered Flippers on our last trip and I liked it. It's a thin crust type of pizza. I also really like Giordano's but I grew up with Chicago pizza. I don't like Papa John's at all. I think it tastes like cardboard. I would rather eat Pizza Hut over Papa Johns any day. Heck ... I even like Little Caesar's better!

Thanks! I love thin crust! I hate Pizza Hut. It's so greasy to me, especially the crust. Papa John's isn't my favorite either.

I've added pizza to alight, just don't know which one. I'm trying to balance the days so we don't have that rushed feeling at all. I hate that feeling on vacation. DVC has totally changed the way we do Disney.

Even though it is just DH and I we usually make at least 70-80% of our meals in our room. I think that is what makes it more "homey". We have used Wegoshop several times and they do an excellent job of picking out our meat. We have made many different dishes, but have not grilled yet. However, the last time we were there, DH said he was ready to try the grill. That means we will never be eating at a Disney Restaurant again, as his grilled steaks are wicked good! :rotfl: We love the ease of eating breakfast in the room. We usually eat a CS in the park during lunch.

Have fun planning your meals!

PS....the Publix is our favorite store, and we have always been happy with the produce, bakery and the deli!

The bakery and meat are deal makers/breakers. I see Publix has a real bakery and I can Oder a cake. We'll be celebrating DD's becoming a bat mitzvah so I'd love to get a great cake. I was going to order a Disney cake but the Publix ones look good, online anyway.

Mine makes a killer steak too. Tonight be made a Borolo braised beef. Unreal. :cloud9: He won't go that fancy there but won't deprive us either.

Rentayenta...the cupcakes that we got from Publix for a little celebration were super yummy and fresh! I will say that most of the Disney cakes were good as well. I do prefer a more detailed Disney cake, but hey I'm spoiled by my DH too! He is quite a catch like yours, he won me over by his awesome cooking and baking skills!!

:thumbsup2 I don't know what I did in a prior life to have found a hot man who cooks but I'm truly grateful. :lovestruc

Do you like Disney or Publix cake/cupcakes better?

It depends...I love the cupcakes the Boardwalk Bakery, but if your looking for moist delicious plain jane cupcakes Publix it is!

I have one two bedroom villa for 7 of us and then one studio for the remaining 3 at AKV. Out of the 10 of us 8 of them are first timers so I'm really excited about showing them (especially my two nieces). How are you planning? Are you making alot of ADRs? I'm trying to keep the reservations at a minimum and just let everyone do what they want when they want.

I think what I am going to do is make a master plan for the parks, using Tour Guide Mike. I plan to make a few dining reservations at places that are fun for groups, Ohana, maybe Whispering Canyon Cafe, Boma, etc. I hope everyone meets for the meals, and although I am making a master plan for the parks, everyone is free to do their own thing, no pressure and no feelings hurt by anyone. Everyone can check the plan each night and if they want to get up and go with the plan fine, if not, we can meet up later or they can do their own thing.

Is Publix the favorite around here? I have no experience with east coast grocery chains. Is there a Wegman's nearby? I've read great things about it. I've heard of Winn Dixie due to the movie. I hate the meat at Walmart!

Who sells the best meat, bread, and produce?

Thats cool Susan that you'll be celebrating a Sweet 16. What restaurant did you choose?

redrosesix, the whole cheesecake idea is a great one. :thumbsup2

The Publix is a very nice, big store with lots of variety. I prefer it to the Winn Dixie, which I think is kind of cluttered and junky looking. Guess I am kind of a grocery store snob. We prefer Whole Foods here at home, and the Publix is fine for us there.

I live in Orlando and would vote Flippers for pizza all the way (if the Papa Murphy's Take-n-Bake were closer to WDW I would say grab one of those, but it's not close enough :( )

There's a Winn Dixie on 535 that's pretty nice (go past Goodings, this is the worst grocery store I've ever been too). If you a die-hard Whole Food's type of family and have a car, there's one off of I-4 Eastbound at Sandlake Road.

DD hates frosting so plain cupcakes might be the way to go. I'm on the Publix site again making a list.

:thumbsup2 DH is too. Publix has a decent selection of cheeses too. Love the stinky feet cheeses.

I like Papa Murphy's too. Have you had their chicken and spinach pizza? Oh my gosh, so good! Looks like Flippers is the way to go especially if they deliver.

never eaten at Giordanos but have seen their discounted coupons on restaurant.com. may be worth checking out.

where is the closest publix to WDW (OKW)?

Wonder if it's any good? The name sounds good. Thanks for the idea. I love restaurants.com

I don't know. I have never traveled outside WDW except to and from the World.

Is Giordano's any good? We eat there every trip. We either go there or have them deliver. They have absolutely delicious deep dish pizza, cheese on the inside and sauce on the outside. I am sure they have a website. Their deep dish takes 45 minutes to bake, once it has been ordered, so you have to allow time. One big slice, sometimes two, is about all I can manage, and I am a pretty healthy eater. :rotfl: There are always leftovers.

We will probably do this for the first night that everyone is arriving.

Regency Square< I think it's called - near the Prime outlets, on the corner of I-Drive and uh - Vineland Avenue? Only about 3 miles from OKW - go past Saratogs Springs, Turn right, left on Hotel Blvd, right on 535, under I4 and left on vineland. Pass Mary Queen of the Universe and the outlets. It's on the left set way back from the street.

That's a great idea for a first night dinner especially if you've got people arriving at different times. I actually like cold pizza as much as hot. I'll look for a website. :thumbsup2

:thanks: 3 miles is great. Our friends are taking us to the store and would hate to have them go totally out of the way.

We've considered Owner's Locker several times, but, for right now decided against it......we usually do two trips a year, but, one is usually a F & W trip with just DH and myself and we do tend to eat out more on that trip simply because we're there for the Food and Wine Festival!! 2011 was the exception to our trips and we could have used OL....since I made 4 trips during the year, DH made 3......our youngest son spent spring semester 2011 working in the College Program...we visited a lot!! We may take advantage of OL in the future when we retire, however, not sure about that either since our plans are to spend January/February in FL and most likely will either drive or autotrain so will be able to pack the car with everything we will need.
