We have an above ground easy set pool. I am having trouble keeping it crystal clear. I have the chlorine (I have followed directions and have testing sticks to keep it at the right level), I shock once a week, I treat regularly for algae, and bought clarifier. Is there something I am missing? It almost seems the pool is crystal clear in the morning and then when the kids get in it stirs stuff up and it gets cloudy. It is probably tougher to keep a small pool clear but I would sure like to! I don't know what I'm doing wrong!

no advice for you...but i'm coming to your house!! ;)

Have you checked the pH? Sometimes if it is off, the water clarity is affected.

Come on down!! It isn't huge but I can actually swim in circles in it. ;) It isn't crystal clear though! LOL

Do you have a pool place you can take a water sample too? Sometimes they can do a more extensive test. We have whats called Pinch a Penny here that does it free

what filtration system do you have? Paper, sand or what? We had a easyset with a paper filter, it got nasty quick. We now have a sand filter. Backwashing beats the pants off of trying to clean paper filterd, or buying one every other day. The post @ the ph is dead on as well.

Hmmmm. :scratchin We use an additive called Pool Clarifier. Bought it from our local pool center. You add 8 oz for every 10,000 gallons and it's supposed to knock down the junk that makes your pool cloudy, to the bottom of the pool, where you then vacuum it out or it get's filtered out. Testing it at your pool center is also a good idea!

That pool clarifier is also called "flock" or "flocculant". And it does exactly what the previous poster stated.... kills the stuff making your water cloudy and drops it to the bottom to be vacuumed. So if you are not vacumming that is why it looks cloudy when the kids swim, they are stirring up all the stuff that has dropped to the bottom. That reminds me I probably should vacume my pool today!......................P

I do use clarifier and I do vaccum the pool after it coagulates everything to the bottom.

We do have a paper filter and I haven't checked PH so I'm going to give that a whirl and look into a better filter.

I'm new to the pool thing. ;)
