...At the going rate of $10/point, how does renting points at one of the DVC resorts (studios) compare to the discounted rates you can find in the beginning of December? For Value Resorts? For Moderates?

I'm trying to help a friend plan a trip - but I'm a DVC member, so I haven't seen the discount rates for the other resorts in a LONG time.

I realize 2001 & 2002 may be slightly "atypical," as far as discounts go. What is everyone anticipating for 2003? A rebound and less discounts?

Thanks for any help you could give...

I am a DVC member too, but I still feel that renting points is the best value. Even with the codes the cheapest deluxe runs about $150 a night and that isn't with tax (typically it's more like 200 but they've had some deals for AKL and WL) With renting points you get more amenities because you are at a deluxe...works for me ;)

Beth !! How you doing?? I may be joining you in FL soon I hope.
(Thinking of moving down there)

The best rate I got was $200 ( I think) in May 2002 for AKL concierge with an AP Discount

On 2/7 I was able to get a Beach Club std view for $200 w/a code. ( Note moderate was $110 w/code )

I rented a BCV studio on 2/6 for $126

I just checked my DVC manager and OKW studios are 8 points per night for the first week of December 2003 (Sun-Thurs) and then jump to 20 points per night on fri and sat. So I guess it just depends on which days of the week your friends want to go. If they go Sun-Thurs at 8 points per night for $10 per point then that's only $80! That's pretty cheap, the only thing that MIGHT be less would be the All Stars. ;)

Early December is a very popular time for DVC members to visit. Availability for points reservations at all of the WDW DVC resorts is already limited. If you plan to rent points for an early December stay, my advice is to do it as soon as you can. If you wait much longer, all the rooms will be gone. Studios tend to book quicker than the larger untis.

Good luck!

Even if they stayed 1 or 2 weekend nights, if you add it up & figure out a "per night" rate I still think they would be better off to stay in a studio at a DVC resort than at an All Star - maybe not price wise but for the value you get. Room sizes are larger & you get the kitchenette area.

I guess if they are trying to go on a tight budget All Star may be less expensive, but for a little extra money I would recommend renting the points at the DVC resort. Plus, remind them that there isn't any tax on the cost of renting points but there is on a regular room rate. Also, having a kitchenette would save on some food costs.

We rented points last December. It was fantastic! We like to resort hop, so we weren't there for a weekend night, which also saved on price. I would suggest a split stay.

I am a DVC member, but my friends are renting points at $10 each for a studio in early December at the Boardwalk. They are paying $850 for 7 nights, which works out to 121.43 per night. Very good deal if you ask me.

Thanks very much for your replies.

I already know what she'd be paying if she rented - I guess I was just wanting to compare that to what we could expect to get at a value or moderate with a discount, based on historical numbers.

Sounds like the moderates, even with a discount, won't compare - especially after resort and sales tax, and ESPECIALLY if she rents at OKW.

Thanks, again!

I'd say a moderate to OKW is a fair comparison. There were some great room deals last year! I think you could get the moderates for under $100- 89 or 99 plus tax. All stars are often around $60 plus tax.

For the deluxe resorts, even with codes, studio rentals are much less. The cheapest I remember seeing YC/BC for is around $170. And I'm not exactly sure when that was. I know for our dates in early september the studio rental was a great deal, but we only did sun-thursday. I think a BC room was around $200, standard view.

Could someone please give my some idea of how much it would cost to rent BCV in August. We have 5 people so we would need something bigger than a studio. We would be there 5 weeknights and 2 weekend nights. I'm confused because I always thought it would be much, much more to rent Beach Club Villas. Last year we stay at YC in August and love the property. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

point calculator is here

Going rental rate is $10 per point.

For 5 people at BCV you need to price a 2 BR, unless one of the 5 is under 3. Then you can do a studio or 1 bedroom.

Just a heads up to those thinking about renting points instead of reserving through WDW. I was very surprised to find that with the current discount code I have for a 2 bedroom villa at OKW, I'm only paying $12 more for a 5 night stay in June than I would be if I rented points @ $10 pp. I had always heard that renting was much less expensive than renting, but in my case it isn't true.

When I consider that I only have to pay 1 nights deposit and I'm free to cancel up to 5 days before arrival, I feel much more comfortable using CRO for my reservations rather than dealing with an individual party. Originally I had booked through CRO only because we needed the flexibility to cancel at the last minute, but it's worked out to be the best deal financially as well.

I suppose it all depends on where you're staying, what days and what time of year. But, I thought I'd mention that renting points isn't always the best option.

Absolutely true! Renting points isn't always the best option. You have to do the math! Be sure to include the tax if you are renting from CRO - there is no tax when you rent points.

In addition to the flexibility for depost and cancellation, when you rent from CRO you get daily housekeeping. When you rent points, you do not.
