For those just back, FINGER SCAN?

My DH and I have exchanged passes to see if it works and there was no problem getting in. I do think that it tracks it on a dailey basis, so that if I went in on the same day with my pass after I used his there might be a problem. I don't know if I want to push they system and loose mine.

Hmmmm. I just remembered our trip to Disneyland this past Christmas. I don't recall the finger scanners there, but I do remember that if you were leaving a park expecting to return that you needed to get a hand stamp for re-entry. You couldn't use your pass to get back in.

They used to do the same thing at WDW before the "bio-scanners"; except you needed your pass and the hand stamp.

You still needed to have your pass, but the pass alone wouldn't get you back in.

It's really only a problem if somebody had their finger up their nose before they scanned, then you scan your finger and get the booger and then stick your finger up your nose or try to dig a piece of lettuce out from between your teeth or something like that. Then you could get the flu if the booger innoculator had it first. Otherwise, the finger scan shouldn't pass the swine flu.

When you buy passes at the same time they usually link them so it does not matter which ticket you use. They link all finger scans to all tickets so if I happen to use my adult DD ticket the scan still works. I have also gone in many times when the scan was not taking for whatever reason and the CM working the gate just waved me through.

We were in the parks between May 17 and May 29. They finger scanned in all parks, except the water parks, off and on and not always all people in the party. Adults were always scanned, if they were scanning, but the kids were not always scanned when the adults were. The scans identified when the kids used a different finger than they used the first time they were scanned. That probably slowed things up a bit. Otherwise, the time it took to scan didn't add anything to the time it took to get through the turnstyle. You didn't know if it was going to scan or not, so we always had our finger on the scanner when the pass was inserted.

We had park hopper passes coded into our 'room' cards. Hand sanitizer use was frequent in our family. The finger on the scanner was probably the last thing I would worry about, as far as contact with surfaces that others had contacted.

:confused3So, these scanners are to find people with swine flu? Are they new? I dont remember them 2 years ago...........unless I blocked it out:scared1:

I've used my A.P. twice within 20 minutes at Epcot when I remembered I left something in the car that I needed. So there is a "way" this works. Plus, you can go into the same (or different) parks multiple times in one day on an A.P. My guess would be a park hopper would work like this as well.

But there has to be some sort of minimum time for this. 20 Minutes sounds reasonable but not 30 seconds.

Just for giggles, I've gone in using my DH's A.P. & vice-versa. No problems!

As stated in other posts your APs are most likely linked together so you can use either one.

There is no way this would work unless the turnstiles are broken.

Its not going to allow two people in on the same ticket.

As long as it is a park hopper it will work. With park hopper you can go in and out as often as you like.

Yes but the system should flag any ticket used twice within a certain amount of time.

As a posted above, 20 minutes between entries is plausible. 30 seconds should not.

If disney doesn't catch this than its their loss.

Couple of stories on finger scanning. First I was in the parks (except for MK) May 18, 19 & 20 and was not finger scanned once. I had my admission on my room card. The next one is so weird, I cannot believe to this day what a stroke of luck it was. On a visit in 2006, we brought along one of my nephews. We all had park hoppers. We had spent the first part of the day in Epcot. In the afternoon we headed back to the Fort to walk to dog and have lunch before hitting the world showcase until closing. When we got back to the Epcot gate, my nephew discovered he didn't have his wallet and remembered he left it in the RV. UGH! Oh well lets head back and get the ticket. Just as we turned around we spotted a ticket on the ground. It was soggy from the afternoon rainstorm but it was a one day Epcot admission for that day. Question was would it work and especially with the finger scan. He tried it and it did not work. The CM thought perhaps since it had gotten wet it might be a problem so he did an override and let him in. MAGICAL? :confused3

LOL! Thanks for the laugh...I needed that!

I did a little research and found some interesting pages about the old 2 finger scanner and the new one that reads your finger print.

You know Tony, I have often wondered about the "finger print" theory. With the amount of traffic at all 4 theme parks, all the number of people who buy the various tickets requiring scanning, I don't know if there is a data base in the world that could store and retrieve all that info. I have always thought the "bio-scans" were basically bogus to keep honest people honest and to make Disney appear "hi-tech". We have occasionally run into problems with our passes, and a CM always hits the button & lets us in. They have never asked to see an I.D.

If it were a true concern, they would go back to the picture I.D. for A.P.'s and seasonal passes, and do the same for multi-day passes. Besides, the picture I.D.'s were a nice keepsake. Now, I just toss my passes after they expire because they have no sentimental value.

If the ACLU can't make Disney change the way they do business, then that alone convinces me that there is no data being stored in reference to your admission pass.

Next time you go to a park with your friends - who would have no "link" to your pass, exchange passes and see what happens. I've not done this myself, but would be curious to see if you would gain admission with no difficulty.

I tend to agree. They can't even get a decent ADR system up and running, how could they ever come up with a bioscan system of that size. It looks all pretty and high tech but all it does is cause back ups, especially in the morning.

that being said, I've had to show ID a number of times in the past. One trip, I had to go to guest relations 4 times in one day and was getting very upset that my AP was having problems when earlier in the year it worked fine. They were very accommodating and extended my AP by 3 mos for my ENTIRE FAMILY and that gave us free admission for our next trip!

DH almost always forgets what finger he first used, and frequently runs into issues with his AP at the turnstiles. Worst case they ask him to produce a photo ID, but it leads me to believe 2 things...

The scans actually do work

I need to wrap a piece of duct tape around his "correct" finger. ;)

Why do they not have it be the same finger for all? Like right index finger... thats not hard to remember I wouldn't think? Then if you have an issue the backup finger is left index...
