Hard time deciding when to purchase

Call the main sales line and talk to a Guide, explaining that (a) you want a price quote that (b) they will hold until your Guide is back. Get the eventual quote and the deadline by which you have to accept in writing.

If it were me, and they could not make that happen, then I'd just ask whichever Guide is able to write up the contract and I would get a signature on it sometime during this upcoming week to start the 10-day clock. I get that you want to be loyal to the person you've been working with, but you are the one potentially spedning $30,000 and up, and the person who is credited with your commission is not your problem.
 
Yeah, we are definitely committed to him. He's the only guide we've ever met in person. We actually switched him to our guide in December. So I definitely don't want to ditch him.

My husband and I talked a ton about our plan today and how we're feeling. We were thinking about waiting for the new Visa card but then figured the extra rewards % of points back would be less than what we'd save by purchasing before the price increase.

So we are thinking we'll want to straddle this incentive period and the next. I sent an email with several questions and I'm totally bummed now and not sure what to do.
So we were faced with this same issue. We loved our Florida guide, he is a California native too. He showed us around all of the new properties when we visited, answered all of our questions whenever i emailed him from time to time, would wish us a happy birthday and happy holidays, email us with all the fun things happening when we were going during the holidays etc. I told him we def were going with him and all that good stuff and I meant it.

Well, we were eager to be direct asap and get the best financing rate and that was the reason we were waiting an entire year. Went to vdh for my birthday, started chatting with a guide I never met, told her how we've been waiting to be direct and it sucks we have to wait another 2 months because our anniversary isnt until march, etc.

She picked up on everything we wanted that our guide we loved did not and sprang into action and begin calling regional managers for us for approval of what we wanted. Everything happened so quickly over a 5 minute conversation, something our guide said was absolutely not possible.

If it wasnt for this lady, we would have missed out on a year's worth of points, we wouldnt be celebrating valentines day at the resort, we would have gotten the base price increase etc., had to pay more almost guaranteed, etc.

We were even past the deadline for MB and she got that approval for us if we wanted it and 60 days to pay which isnt happening now. Well guess who we went with? My point is, the guides are not your friends. This is a very large purchase and you need to do what is best for your family. In the end, our old guide hasnt emailed us again and none of that matters. We have a new guide who now messages us with the same friendliness, and we got everything we wanted! If youre guide is not there until after base price increase and you want this, Do not wait! This is your money and purchase! The guides are all nice and you gotta go with the one thats going to seal the deal which is the whole point 😀

It’s really easy/straightforward compared to resale. We use our credit card and although in the past you could spread payments over 90 days, we were told it has been changed to 30 days. I’m pretty sure I have the sequence of events right. You decide on the number of points, the DVC guide puts in the request for points (assuming it’s not a property in active sales), the system matches you, you give your payment info, you get a bunch of things to e-sign, and then the credit card is charged once you sign the documents. The points will show up same day and the contract is closed when the final payment is taken.

So if I call on Monday and they are willing to let me "lock in" current pricing and wait until my guide is back....what steps do you think we'd need to do BEFORE our guide is back?

And what happens if by chance incentives after the 10th are better? Would I be able to switch?

I am not sure about locking things in until your guide is back. If you are in the rescission period (7 days in California), my understanding is you should be able to cancel and redo the contract if incentives are better.

You can call them right now and still straddle. Thats what many of us are doing, you don't have to wait

Log in to DVC and use the MS chat feature to ask to speak to a guide.

I would not count on something being “honored” because of an email reply.

I agree that it’s smart to wait until the 3rd or later so you can rescind & switch if incentives improve.

You are about to find out that buying DVC direct is really easy and it’s incredible how fast the points will load in your account.
 
It's weird because even though we've be talking about more points FOREVER...I still feel like I'm nervous. I get like this with any big purchases. I was the same way when I got my new back in 2024. Same with when we bought our house. Etc.

It is funny that it's hasn't been that long since we've really considered VDH. I think when this thread started, it was barely (if at all? I'll have to look.) on my radar.

I think you've been on the fence about buying for almost a year now it seems.
 
We've known we wanted more points for Disneyland trips for a while because we know we want to be in 1-bedrooms as much as possible. But we really thought we'd just do more VGC resale. For a while I thought we might do just 50 VGC (resale or direct, whichever showed up.) But then we thought 75-100 would probably be better.

Then someone here, maybe AstroBlasters, pointed out how long VDH is priced direct, even compared to resale VGC. So that's when I started shifting toward that.

We weren't super "sold" on the idea until we were able to tour it in December. I was super worried about the extra walk. I still think I won't necessarily care for the walk, but I don't think it's as big of a drawback as I originally thought.

I just hope I don't have trouble getting a 1-bedroom for a week each year...mostly in June. I can't really "walk" it much either since June is our UY.

This 100%. This is a big financial decision and no guide non matter how nice they may be would prevent me from doing what’s best for me.
