In a typical winter-and I know this year isn't-how long before the snow melts?

This is first time we are going "up north"-Connecticut , to visit for Easter (April 5)
Snow on ground in all the pics son sends
So are the odds that I should bring lots of winter clothes?

:thanks:

Plan to bring them. We need some warmer, sunnier days than we've had in order for it to melt.

It's not been warm enough yet for melting. We have about 12" of densely-packed snow underfoot all the time- not counting the snowbanks from shoveled/plowed areas- so it's going to take awhile before it's consistently warm enough to melt all that. Besides, once it starts to melt, we'll be in MUD SEASON… you are gonna want those boots, for sure!

Personally, I am hoping that by Easter I will be able to skip wearing the long underwear bottoms and hoodie and go to work wearing just normal clothes- pants, shirt, sweater, and winter coat/boots.

There will be snow still at Easter. That said, it may not be freezing out, or it may. Are you doing a sunrise service? You will FOR SURE want winter gear for that. If you are just up visiting, reasonably warm clothes are suggested ;) There are usually some snowbanks at least left at Easter, even on non-ridiculous snow years.

I am in bristol, ct. My backyard has about 2.5 feet of snow and along the driveway more like 4+ feet! closer to 5 in many spots from the snowblower. The dead end has about 10 feet of snow and was cleared out once already

Unless Mother Nature gets a move on, we will be seeing snow on the ground for a while. Our plazas with the dirty snow, my guess is may

So if you are coming to ct, watch the forecast, but expect to be cold. For us, once it hits the 40's this week, it is going to seem balmy and I may break out sandals at work. For visitors from warmer areas, you will be freezing and think we are all nuts

Thanks Pumba=they are on the coast SW of you :)

I think I will stick to a slacks outfit for the family event (instead of a dress)
I live in the South where we never get snow-this will be my first cold Easter

All this coming week temps will be in the 40's so plenty of melting will occur. I don't see snow being around for Easter.

We are in Southeast Ct and I can say I fully expect to have at least some snow still lingering by then, probably leftover snowbanks. I have seen parking lots just full of snow piled 8-10 feet high.

A normal April can still be pretty cool, especially for someone coming from the south who may not be used to New England weather. Like Pumba said, when it hits 40's this week we will all be in t-shirts, but my relatives in Florida bundle up like it's the arctic when it's 40's. Definitely pack long pants and sweaters, probably a jacket as well. It can be very cool at night and in the morning, but very warm during the day, so layers are your friend :thumbsup2

I hope you enjoy your trip to CT!

I am in North Central CT. There will be snow here. Heck, We have had snow in May in our front yard. Bring warm clothes because in the Spring it gets cold once th sun goes down

Yeah, this snow is not going away for a while. I'm in MA, and work for a pool company. We currently have a contest on FB where people have to vote on when our owner will be able to open the gate to his pool. There is currently a 6+ foot snowbank pushed up against it.

I'm in Niagara Falls - not quite New England, but comparable snow amounts. The news said the other day we shouldn't expect the snow/ice to be gone until mid-May. They were doing a segment on contractors, landscapers and concrete workers and how their season is going to be delayed since we never got any thaw or reprieve in February.

Here, we're going into the 40s next week and the long range forecast shows back into the 30s beyond that. Boo!

we still have lots of snow on the ground and they are talking about another big storm for next weekend so bring warm clothing

Are you in CT? I didn't hear about this. What are they saying?

Ugh, really? I don't want to think about that...

OP, one thing to keep in mind... When deciding what clothes to pack and wear, it really doesn't matter if there's snow on the ground or not. Wednesday might hit 50 and there's 2 feet of snow on the ground. In that case, I'll dress for 50 - the snow only matters for footwear. And early April in Connecticut could be anywhere from 35 - 70. Snow is possible, as is a gorgeous 70 degree day. Paying attention to the weather forecast starting a week before you leave is what you need to do and prepare for layers. If there's still snow and slop on the ground, a good pair of boots will be helpful.

Yeah, not sure what's going to happen here! I've been to some super cold Opening Days, but nothing like this!

Although with the little bit of sun we had yesterday, some of the snow did melt. We were able to scrape more snow and ice up off of our walkways, anyway. I noticed as I was driving around how grimy and dirty all of the snowbanks are now. Time for them to GO!
