For those in New England......when does the snow melt?

I noticed as I was driving around how grimy and dirty all of the snowbanks are now. Time for them to GO!

Funny...I was thinking how ugly the dirty snow looks while driving on 495 this morning! I usually think that New England is such a pretty place to live until this time of year with the dirty snow and the bare trees.

Yeah, not sure what's going to happen here! I've been to some super cold Opening Days, but nothing like this!

cool pic yankee stadium looks the same way its crazy how much snow we have had this year

I am in bristol, ct. My backyard has about 2.5 feet of snow and along the driveway more like 4+ feet! closer to 5 in many spots from the snowblower. The dead end has about 10 feet of snow and was cleared out once already

Unless Mother Nature gets a move on, we will be seeing snow on the ground for a while. Our plazas with the dirty snow, my guess is may

So if you are coming to ct, watch the forecast, but expect to be cold. For us, once it hits the 40's this week, it is going to seem balmy and I may break out sandals at work. For visitors from warmer areas, you will be freezing and think we are all nuts

This! We've got at least 3 feet of packed snow in our yard and taller piles around, and as we get into the warmer cycle where it melts during the day and refreezes at night, the piles get smaller, but denser and harder to melt. Unless it gets really warm and STAYS that way for a while, there will still be snow on the ground when you are here.

And to be honest, early April still has snow potential. I'm in central CT and it would not be unusual for it to snow at the beginning of April (and right up until the middle of the month), even a significant storm. The good news is that if it DOES snow in April, it usually doesn't last that long on the roads, but yeah, those snowbanks take a long time to disappear.

Bottom line: this is New England. We could have 80 degrees in early April, or we could have 20 degrees. We could have a blizzard, or a thunderstorm, or a tornado. And quite possibly all in the same day. And yes, when it hits 45 in the next few days, most of us WILL be in t-shirts and shorts, trying to break the ice dams on our roof.

My town had to postpone their St Patrick's parade until the middle of April. Too many snowbanks so no place for visitors to stand. I have 6 foot drifts in my backyard and 8 foot snowbanks by my driveway. At this rate it won't be gone until June.

I am in Ohio and didn't have what they had in New England, but we spent the 40 degree day yesterday shoveling the 3 - 4 foot snow banks into the drive way to help with the melting. This way it went into the sewers and not my basement!

OP - Dress for layers. Spring in the Northeast is very fickle.

Snow on the ground has no bearing to what you should be packing. Pack for the temperature and weather forecast. It is still much colder than normal and forecast to be through the next couple of weeks. Even with that, there's a wide variety. This week alone in central Connecticut, tonight's low is predicted to be 17 and Thursday's high will approach 60 (and rainy). The 10-day forecast is generally showing days in the 40s and nights below freezing. I really hope that the days will be in the 50s by your trip!

As for snow in central Connecticut... it varies everywhere. There are spots that are almost entirely melted (those that get a lot of direct sun) and spots with almost a foot of snow. Snowbanks vary. Some huge ones in some places and some removed.

There's been significant snow melt in central Connecticut. Still some snow on the ground, but not too much. Muddy in places so if you'll be walking on unpaved surfaces that's something to keep in mind. Although I think even the mud is on its way out. Temps are supposed to be 50-ish in the daytime and cold at night.

SW CT about an hour north of NYC. The bulk of the snow is gone. Yard is mostly grass except for the real shady spots.

This week is supposed to be 50-50. Easter weekend supposed to dip into 50s but then perk up after that.

If you're from the south you'll be cold but you may seem crazy New Englanders wearing flip flops if it hits 50. ;)

Wow! Thanks for this information! I leave Tuesday for a week in the central MA, northern CT (Woodstock) area. Coming from a part of the country where it's snowed once in the last 100 years, this is going to be a shock. I've gone up there over the last 3 years at this time (early April) and there's been a little snow, but not like this!

When backing out of the driveway this morning, I realized I can finally see over the snowbanks at the end of the drive!

the day you leave for vacation~and then it snows again they day you get home. Sorry, I live in Illinois, but that's how it feels here sometimes lol
