What I actually do think is weird is how the Lars family just give Anakin C-3PO when he and Padme leave. I imagine it's something like Shmi kept him around as a reminder of her son, but Cleig and Owen couldn't stand ol' "Goldenrod" and were like "Yeah. Sure. Take him. No, really. TAKE. HIM." It's just oddly never shown in the film though.
