for the love of mickey - a PTR

ok, so after seeing the post re: $850.00 flights and checking the dates... it turns out, we could totally do this!! total of $1700 aud for 2 x bne - lax on our dates for this trip would have meant a saving of close to $800aud. awesomesauce. :goodvibes

then i checked the vaustralia tickets i purchased a week or so ago for $1200 each... non refundable, and you pay a cancel fee of $350 each.

crap.

so i'm stuck with the flights with vaustralia for $1200 each. it's not a bad price... just not as good as i now know it could have been :sad::sad:

but to cheer me up, i got confirmation from my wonderful DU Travel Agent today that as long as I book our Chacchoben Ruins tour as a port adventure direct through Disney, there is no way they will let us miss the boat.

The port adventure is supposed to go for 4-4.5 hours. and we are only in port for 4.75 hours. and there are logistics to consider. for me, this was a hugely tight window and i was stressing that we weren't going to be able to do this port adventure (and climbing the mayan pyramids was something that helped me sell this cruise to carlo in the first place) which was kinda the whole point originally of this trip.

so with that worry off my mind, i can rest a little easier.

did i mention that i've been off work for the last 5 days with the flu? not a cold, not a nasty virus, but actual flu. so sick. and work have actually been pretty understanding, since it was only a few months ago that i finally recovered from the worst 3-6 months of sick leave i've ever had in my life  the only silver lining here is that they upgraded our payroll system/leave application system, and it seems to think i have paid sick leave up my sleeve... who am i to contradict the all-powerful new system??

back at work tomorrow though, and back to saving up for the trip... we're slightly ahead of my excel spreadsheet predictions, so fingers crossed, we might be able to pull off this trip.

have also got my wonderful TA requesting seating for dinner for just the 2 of us, rather than at a shared table. i know that the goal of shared dining is to enjoy your tablemates and meeting others, but since this is *hopefully* going to be a very romantic cruise for us, i thought it might be nice to have a little dinner date each night... just the 2 of us in a nice restaurant for dinner, then a show :) or the other way around, since we have late dining :)

i discovered gossip girl yesterday, so off to watch me some of that :happytv:

He could/would never say no, would he? :lmao:
He'll love it just as much as you will, m DH never says no to a trip :thumbsup2

we're at desert inn & suites right next door so this is perfect for us :)

Alicia, have you stayed there before? We're trying for a super-budget trip next year, and Desert Inn is appealing to us as a family of five with three tiny ones. We don't care about any frills or anything at all really. As long as it's clean and functionable, we're happy.

 hope you feel better soon.
I've got one 16 year old with a runny nose and sore throat he is not happy that I've told him that he and his man flu are quarantined to his bedroom :rotfl:

i tried to quarantine carlo and his man flu and ended up with it myself, and like... 4 times worse..

spent the day at home watching season 1 gossip girl on the couch, rugged up under a blanket :)

My DH informed me today he's getting the flu jab this week
From what i've heard everybody that has the jab gets the flu, bad.
I won't have it, i'd rather get the flu, and I won't have DS6 get it either, DH, though is a big boy and can make his own decision (and live with the consequences if he gets sick).

I Have my scheduled sick day tomorrow :woohoo:

yay for the scheduled sick day

i got the flu needle on friday 2 weeks ago... felt fine over the weekend, then the tuesday, i got really sick... stayed sick til thursday, went to work friday, got sent home... felt better by sunday, went into work monday, barely made it through the doors before i had to go home.. now it's tuesday again, and i'm hoping to make it into work wednesday and put in a full day

stupid flu  mine came with a tummy bug entree and a fever/chills/aches main meal...

hope your family manage to avoid it, it seems to be going around...

funny story.. went to my doctor's office last tuesday when i first got sick. open surgery and NO-ONE is waiting to see him. went back on monday this week, open surgery and like... 30 people in the waiting room, all with the flu. not good!!

That's the bugger about working for myself, I don't get sick days. Have to work everyday. Same as days off, doesn't happen. I tell my husband, that's why I need to plan so many overseas trips, I have to leave the country to get some time off :rotfl2::rotfl2:

Sounds good to me ;)

so still sick at home, and now have a certificate for the rest of the week. i have gossip girl seasons 2 and 3 to keep me company, but i don't think work is too happy with me right now.. unfortunately the flu i seem to have contracted doesn't want to co-operate.

i've got my eye on southwest.com for our flights (they seem to be the cheapest, and they don't charge for the luggage) but they won't HURRY UP and release our dates... right now they've only got up til nov 2 available, and we need tickets for nov 23 and dec 1... it seems like they've had up to nov 2 released for ages... just wondering if anyone knows when they release their dates? it is around the 6 month mark? cause if so... that should be any day now...

they only have direct flights on certain days of the week for our particular flight path/destination, and they book out early, so i need to make sure when they're available, we can book asap.

this trip is driving me bananas and we are still 6mths + to go...

every time i talk to carlo about the trip, he falls asleep, so i have to make all the decisions...

wish me luck... tonight i'm planning our excursions and port adventures and so on and so forth :)

Sothwest have a DING! app that alerts you to airfare sales. It actually makes a ding noise when it comes through.

You're really not having any luck are you?
At least you have Gossip Girl :thumbsup2

Did you watch The Hills when it was on? My fav

enjoy your cruise planning......but dont get sucked in to do EVERY Excursion you can cram in.....ie dont book 3x7hr excursions...have some free time just to walk around the dock etc, or use the empty pool:cloud9:

 I really hope you feel better soon.

lol. thanks for this... i don't mind if the info isn't 100% correct, but it's the waiting and waiting and waiting and seeing no new info on their website that's the bit that bothers me :)

thanks for the link though... i will definitely check it out..

so with the sick leave i had recently, and the electric shock and inability to work due to a damaged hand right now... my pay this week was less than stellar. in fact, it barely shone any light onto the dark emptiness of my bank balance...

so those southwest flights i was eagerly awaiting... it would be awesome if they could hold off on releasing those, as i had to dip into our trip savings to supplement the rent and other payments due out this week... not happy jan!!

i HATE the roadblocks that life seems to be throwing up at me lately.

and what's with this weather? cold and miserable and rainy and freezing too cold.

a la modern family's episode at DLR, i intend to buy some slippers from BBB. i hate slippers, but if they're awesome and comfy and remind me of DLR, i might just buy them.

so far on our 'wishful thinking' souvenirs list are:

- mickey tumblers for use at home
- a wallet & dooney & burke bag (the new dcl pattern one)
- a charm bracelet and at least one charm
- slippers from BBB
- more pins :)

 Hope that things pick up for you soon...especially the bank balance.

I ended up getting an extra throw rug yesterday so that I can sit and watch TV with the extra rug wrapped around me. Cold, cold, cold.

Love the wish list.

According to the transportation boards the flights are now open for your dates, I hope they are good prices for you :goodvibes
