for the love of mickey - a PTR

Well, while we are on the subject, my family is exactly like everybody loves Raymond - we have the twins and an older sib a sarcastic and snide MIL, DH has a single brother almost 40 and living at home and DH who is just oblivious to how nasty his mother is to me and our kids!

But they are pretty harmless, I guess, dont ever say much directly but I certainly know I am not their family!

i tried to post this yesterday, but my interwebs weren't co-operating.

my MIL (well, carlo's mum - we're not married yet) refuses to acknowledge my existence. when she calls, she treats me like i'm the housekeeper. when she comes to visit him, i have to go stay with my family, as she only wants to visit 'him' in 'his house'. she knows my name, but she refuses to acknowledge that her precious little boy is living with a woman.

he, on the other hand, could not have made it clearer to her that this is a committed relationship and that he intends to propose, but she refuses to acknowledge it, so i doubt i'll even see her at the wedding (yayness) or the birth of the first child (yipee ay - kay - ay). i always thought my extended family would be just that.. an extended family... but his dad loves me (even though we have never met), his younger brother is like my younger brother (he's only 4 days younger than i am) and his sisters... well... they're nice most of the time, and a bunch of scheming harpies the rest of the time, but we get along when we do face to face meets...

but i love the fact that his mother is barely in our lives. i can't handle her special brand of drama.

Mine pretty much chose which one of their sons they liked better and kept him in their life and made the other one feel like crap (my DH), we're better off without them, and without them dictating on how we should live

Pretty sure some mum's don't like sharing...

i love robert in that show... and i love the comedy gold that comes from that show... but i would be tempted to 'accidentally' smack someone's head into a wall if they were my family

I've just discovered your PTR and have been reading it this afternoon. You guys sound like a really lovely couple and your trip sounds wonderful....I'm very jealous that you'll be staying at the Disneyland Hotel!

I noticed you were looking for something lazy to do on a Sunday....can I make a suggestion? When we were at DL in 2010 for Chrissy, we did the Sunday Brunch on the Queen Mary at Long Beach. The drive was only about half an hour and the ship and the food were both amazing!

We have really similar trips....in September my Husband and I are flying Virgin, staying at the Desert Inn and Suites for a week, then fly to Orlando and are cruising on the Dream. We have 4 nights In Orlando too.

I guess that great minds think alike!

Congrats for paying off your cruise too....that's a really big milestone!

thanks for the good vibes too... i guess our itinerary isn't that complex, but it works for us -- let me know how the dream works out for you, as we are thinking of booking a cruise next year as well, and are tossing up a trip on the dream vs the fantasy.

That is just terrible that you go stay somewhere else whilst she is there your a better person than me I would be saying if you don't like it stay in a hotel okay maybe i would think it but i wouldn't be leaving on her account

So i am guessing your not invited to the sisters wedding then.

I am glad to know that i am not the only one with a dictating MIL and yep life is so much easier without them DH has not spoken to his for over 12 years not worth the hassle she actually offered him money to leave me. But i scored the jackpot my Mother is no better

i also wonder about what kind of mother in law i will be -- i like to think that i will be awesomely friendly, engaging and just a joy to be with... and any dark thoughts i'll mumble into my wine after they leave and keep to myself

I tried, I tried really hard and bit my tongue, and didn't say anything UNTIL they told my DH he pretty much wasn't welcome in their home and then I snapped, Christmas was off, Birthdays were off, I saw them once after that.

I don't like it for my DH and my DS, but I can live without the drama.
I did have to laugh when DH was spying on Googlemaps and looked at his brothers place and saw his mums car parked in the driveway, it did make us wonder how much they're there...not that I want them here

I'm pretty lucky with MIL's. One of them is just like my mum - but with a few more "suggestions", and the other one which is DH's step mum is a little more controlling, but she lives in the USA. So it's pretty hard to be controlling from that far away, and now when we see each other we get along a lot better

Anyway, back to the thread at hand I really loved The Block at Orange. It wasn't super busy when we went and we had lunch at the micro brewery Alcatraz (I'm pretty sure that's what it was called) when we went there. We just caught a cab from our hotel there and back for maybe $15 each way and spent a lazy day poking around the shops.

Anyway, back to the thread at hand I really loved The Block at Orange. where did you stay, if you don't mind me asking? i would love to do some shopping at both the block at orange & the anaheim gardenwalk (for bubba gumps) but don't want to spend heaps of money on cabs...
