? for Southwest flyers. Regarding boarding.

Hmmm, being that I had the same sort of question, hope it's okay to ask here. How about B 22, 23? Is that okay or pretty bad? I hate to be at the end and having to sit way back. Any idea where this could put me, assuming most all who go before me choose seats as close to front as possible? And, for a flight that leaves at 9 am, approximately when do they start boarding?
Thanks for any help! :santa:

If you want seats together, you will probably be in the back half.

They usually start boarding around 30 minutes before departure time.

Darn it, lol, okay, thank you! I was trying to get on right at 9 this morning and didn't get in until about 9:10 or 9:15 so I guess that was a little late.

Do people wait in line to board before that or what? do they just call all B boarding passengers, or sets of numbers in B? Not sure how they do it, haven't flown with SW before. Hope it all goes smoothly.

Southwest boards in 3 groups: A, B & C. Each boarding group consists of 1-60. A1-A15 are saved for Business Class, but the rest are for everyone else. I have never boarded in C and the worst boarding position I had was at the end of B. I fly 2-3 times a year and as of the last 5 years I fly almost exclusively Southwest. I have never had an issue with seating.

I do have to state the worse issue is with people that wait until they get to the airport to get their boarding seat and feel they are entitled. This one woman got the last seat which was right behind me, all of the overheads were filled around us and she thought it was ok to move everyone elses to squeeze hers in. The flight attendent offered to move hers to a space in the back of the plane and boy that did not go over well. Other than that it is usually quite tamed and civil.

That doesn't sound so bad I guess, lol, right in the middle almost. One more thing, do you just get in line with all the b section or, do they sort of have you in order? I guess if they didn't do that, the number wouldn't really mean too much.

Thanks very much for responding! :)

Each group (A, B and C) lines up in order, then boards.

Click this LINK to view a little video about the boarding process.

Past the middle because C typically only has a few people. Plus families with children under 5 can board between A and B if they don't have an A. Depending on the plane, there are a total of 122 or 137 seats.

You will not line up until after the A's board. There are posts with numbers, 1 to 30 on one side and 31-60 on the other side. You find your number after your letter is called.

Oh, hmmm, oh well, guess we shall see what happens! Thanks for that info! :)

don't stress over it. My Fiance and I were B25 and B26 leaving Orlando on Monday, and we were in Row 15. There were plenty of seats left on the plane, and we weren't in the back. There were 5 or 6 pre-boards in wheelchairs, plus their families, plus there was family boarding before the B group started, and we still had no problems. Mid-B shouldn't be a problem.

Oh, wow, that sounds great actually! Well, thanks for that, I sure appreciate your stopping in and offering that helpful bit of info from your trip! I'm hoping our flight wont' be super booked up, they are still offering tickets at this time. And hoping we won't be in the back, it seems more bumpy there and and I feel more trapped there, though that might not make sense, lol. Plus DD21 is having more trouble these days with upset stomach while flying, so the bumpiness wouldnt help much. So, you're right, things may actually work out just great, so thanks for that! :santa:

Actually if there are just 2 of you you will be in better shape! If you really want the front look for aisle aisle beside each other or in front /back if that's ok with your dd. If not just grab the first two seats together you find. IMHO its easier to find 2 than a row.

Relax and just enjoy the trip, fwiw I have never been separated from my kids on SWA, something I can't say about AA, Delta or Jet Blue.

As far as stomach issues - my dd's find relief from ginger cookies. Helps the ears with the chew and swallow and the ginger helps the stomach, works as a fun distraction too if you can find the ginger boys from pepridge farm my kids love them :)

Bonine also works great without making you drowsy.

Hmmm, she just got some dramamine the less drowsy formula. And she just bought ginger cookies the other day, cool! That's makes sense about being better with just the 2 of us, good point! Not sounding so bad after all, lol. Thanks again dissers! :)

Okay, so last Sunday for our flight down I couldn't sign in for about 20 min after my 24 hr mark(9am on a Sat. morn). Our board #'s were B23 and 24 and we ended up getting our two seats together in row 9, which I thought was pretty darn good, so happy with that! We just came home tonight, (had a great time on our Xmas visit!), and I couldn't check us in last night till about 2 hrs past the 24 hr mark(8:35pm Sat nite). We ended up B39 and 40. When boarding we ended up with 2 seats together, in row 13 which wasn't too bad at really, though shortly after that they said something about single seats being left.

Just thought I'd report back for anyone interested how it goes, if not, this will go on by, lol. Thanks for the help and for the op starting this very timely thread. I agree, OP, that group A works, and works well! I hope next time I get group A, lol, though B wasn't really bad at. Overall, for our first time with SW, I was very pleased with everything and the seating worked just fine, which I was worried about at first. And can't beat 2 free bags per person, really liked that! And, the leather seats were quite nice, too. Thanks for the help!! :)
