I'm the poster child for "YARC", the "You ain't right club". But if the truth be known there are a whole bunch of us on the WISH Team that have a screw or two loose. We do things that would get a "Your Crazy" reaction from most people. We take on some of the baddest endurance events on the planet.
We are currently 9 weeks from our biggest show of the year, the half, full and goofy challange. Last week we got our "EEEK, it's only 10 weeks till the marathon", out of the way. Now most of us are ready to mentally plant our feet, draw our sword and kick butt on any demons our body and mind throws at us.
You first timers are probably thinking about this time, "What have I got myself into"? Your wondering if it's really worth the effort. That is a question that each of us have to answer for ourselves. There is a saying, I think it started in the military, since that's where I first heard it, "You can talk the talk, but can you walk the walk"?. When you cross that finish line in January, you can say "Heck yes I can walk the walk"!
I personally need the challange, I stopped exercising and doing the races for about 8 years, after retiring from the Air Force and for all that time, I felt that something was missing from my life. There was something missing, it was the excitement, the adventure and the pure joy of being an athlete.
On January 12th Erica and I will be toeing the starting line of our first Goofy, because we want it and we need it.
How about the rest of you half, full and Goofy finishers, what keeps you coming back? Is it worth the effort?
