FWIW, I have a lot of writing credentials, but often when I'm posting, I write in "conversation" mode. (The fancy word for that would be "colloquial.") I've read posts of mine where I mixed up "there/their" and "your/you're." Believe me--I know the difference. I was an English major in college, and I write professionally. It's just that when I'm "talking" on-line, I don't always pay attention to the correct form of writing. Writing correctly isn't the first thing I consider when conversing on-line.
It's not a bad thing to educate people on correct word usage and spelling, but IMO we shouldn't take on-line postings as true measures of others' writing abilities. For me, if I can understand what someone is trying to say, that's good enough (and there is one post above that illustrates exactly what I mean by that).
