How many of these hit home?

You know you grew up in an Italian family when...

1. You have at least one relative who wore a black dress every day for an
entire year after a funeral.
2. You spent your entire childhood thinking what you ate for lunch was
pronounced "sangwich."
3. Your family dog understood Italian.
4. Every Sunday afternoon of your childhood was spent visiting your
grandparents and extended family.
5. You've experienced the phenomenon of 150 people fitting into 50 square
feet of yard during a family cookout.
6. You were surprised to discover the FDA recommends you eat three meals a
day, not seven.

price of everything was negotiable through haggling.
9. You watched Lawrence Welk and Ed Sullivan every Sunday night.
10. You were as tall as your grandmother by the age of seven.
11. You thought everyone's last name ended in a vowel.

left hand.
19. You learned to play bocce before you went to school.
20. You can understand Italian but you can't speak it.
21. You have at least one relative who came over on the boat.
22. You grew up calling the bathroom the baccausa. And you only had one.
23. You were surprised to learn most kitchen utensils had another name
which didn't end in a vowel.
24. All of your uncles fought in a World War.
25. You have at least six male relatives named Tony, Frankie or Louie.
26. You have relatives who aren't really your relatives.
27. You have relatives you don't speak to.
28. You drank wine before you were a teenager.
29. You relate on some level, admit it, to the Godfather and the Sopranos.
30. You grew up in a house with a yard that didn't have one patch of dirt
that didn't have a flower or a vegetable growing out of it.
31. Your grandparent's furniture was as comfortable as sitting on plastic.
Wait... You were sitting on plastic.
32. You thought that talking loud was normal
33. You thought cookie cakes and the Tarantella were common at all weddings.
34. You thought everyone got pinched on the cheeks and money stuffed in
their pockets by their relatives.

what their age.

44. You have at least one irrational fear or phobia which can be attributed
to your mother.

LOL....These are great!

OMG. I can relate to most of these, and I had never thought about a lot of them.

ROTFLMBO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I only made it to 38 before I was laughing to hard to read the rest of them.
Many of these were true while I was growing up.
And I'm Irish not Italian.

OMG, those are great. I was LMBO reading the list.

22. You grew up calling the bathroom the baccausa. And you only had one.

... and that one was right near the dining room in my Nana's house. One Uncle refused to use it because he wanted more privacy.

Not Italian, but some of my friends are... Sounds like their families. LOL. :)

Oh no too funny!:p I AM italian and can relate to ALL of these. Makes me miss my mom and dad.....:(

OMG! Those are so true, it's hysterical!

Only it was Mary on the half shell, and not a saint in the bathtub;) And we're in the process of closing on a house and my family is buying me.... a Bocce ball set !!!

:D LOL! I'm not Italian but grew up with plenty. So true!

Not Italian, but lived in the Italian neighborhood growing up and now as well....

My grandma always pinched my cheeks and gave me money... up until she died!

She watched Lawrence Welk too, and well the plastic slipcovers will always be remembered at her house...

Thanks for some nice memories of grandma!

Ohmygosh, you almost made me spit coffee all over my computer screen... don't think the Alpha Geek here would like that. LOL!!

Those are all so true, it's scary... I can't even decide which ones are funniest to me, but I'm going to have to go with 20 and 22. I can read an Italian newspaper pretty well, and can understand the gist of what someone is saying when they speak, but I couldn't answer them in Italian to save my very life! And 22... well, my son's teachers actually thought he was making up a word when he said he "needed to go to the baccausa"... :D
