Good morning friends!! Having my usual breakfast brownie here. :sunny:

How many here have voted already? I'll start: ME!

Me too. The lines were several hundred people long last week and they still are.

Come on proud Democrats, liberals and Kerry supporters! Stop responding to the garbage being spewed at you from the rabid right. I'm using Ignore liberally and suggest you do too. If you can't do it at least PLEASE don't quote the drivel if you choose to respond. You are seriously messing with my brownie buzz this morning! ::yes::

I have a bucket of water if anyone wants to dump it on the witch!
;)

I finally got my sample ballot that lists my polling place on it. I searched the address and mapquest says it doesn't exist. Eeeep.

Here's some positive news:

A good friend of mine (known him for 30 years since we were kids) has never ever voted in his life. He always termed himself "apolitical." I just found out that he registered to vote because he could not stand the guilt of knowing he might allow W another four years by not voting. He is voting for the first time and voting for Kerry!

This is huge! I have to believe there are many people like my friend out there who have finally had enough of this insanity.

If the IRS is going to go this route, I think it is time the churches start paying taxes.

NAACP in hot water over speech
By Jim Drinkard, USA TODAY

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service is reviewing the tax-exempt status of the nation's oldest civil rights organization, saying criticism of President Bush at the NAACP's national convention in July may have violated rules against partisan activity.

NAACP Chairman Julian Bond says about the IRS probe: "We intend to fight this with every resource we have."
By Henry Koshollek, The Capital Times file

In a letter dated Oct. 8, the IRS said it had "received information" that NAACP Chairman Julian Bond "condemned the administration policies of George W. Bush on education, the economy and the war in Iraq" in a July 11 speech.

The IRS asked who authorized Bond's speech and sought an accounting of all expenses for the Philadelphia convention.

Bond called the investigation a political move meant to deter the NAACP from its traditional role of registering and turning out black voters on Election Day, something he said has not been called into question over decades of such activity.

"We intend to fight this with every resource we have," Bond said.

The IRS does not disclose its investigations, but the NAACP scheduled a news conference for today on the subject.

Asked why he waited three weeks to announce the probe, five days before the election, Bond said he had to first inform his board of directors about the action.

IRS Commissioner Mark Everson said in a statement that he cannot comment on any particular case but denied that politics is involved in the agency's enforcement decisions.

"Any suggestion that the IRS has tilted its audit activities for political purposes is repugnant and groundless," he said.

Bond began his speech at the July convention by saying, "The race is on! The gloves are off! We are in a fight for our lives, and we are here to commit to winning it!"

He went on to criticize the president's policies on education, civil rights and the Iraq war and noted that Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry had accepted the group's invitation to speak, while Bush had declined.

"The differences between the candidates this year are neither incremental nor inconsequential," he said.

Tax law prohibits charities organized under section 501(c)(3) from taking sides in political campaigns. The law restricts these organizations because donations are tax-deductible for the donor and in effect are subsidized by the government.

Frances Hill, an authority on non-profit groups at the University of Miami Law School, called it "amazing" that the IRS would audit a group based on a public speech.

"Usually you would look for some activity other than disagreeing with policies," she said.

"You also have the right to join the Ku Klux Klan and/or the Nazi party. However, I would submit those are poor choices and those choices lack integrity and character as does the position advocated above."

And I would submit that utilizing the rights guaranteed by our constitution and remaining steadfast in opposition when faced with a poor leader like Bush takes more character and integrity than you are giving credit for.

Go vote for your wallet and remember that there are some people that actually do care more about this country than how much of a tax cut they are going to get or have gotten.

And that's what these people can't figure out. We got our tax cut so we ought to be grateful.

Well, guess what rightwing Republicans: OUR VOTE IS NOT FOR SALE!

Not that I feel the need to defend myself, but my loyalty is with the Constitution, not to any individual.

I went throught this crap 35 years ago of "my country right or wrong" and 53,000 of my fellow citizens died and countless numbers were handicapped for life.

I fought against that 35 years ago, and I'll do it again not just for my sake, but for my daughter's sake, my grandchildren's sake (should I be so fortunate) and for every other American who comes along. No politician is entitled to my loyalty.

Here's a few quotes from Benjamin Franklin:

"Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety'."

Remember that when some politician wants to take the Patriot Act even further.

And here's one especially for George Bush and his conversations with God:

"A man compounded of law and gospel is able to cheat a whole country with his religion and then destroy them under color of law."

'nuff said.

OUR VOTE IS NOT FOR SALE!

thank you. What a simple statement that so sums up my feeling.

MY VOTE IS NOT FOR SALE! Some things really ARE more important than money.

that is funny, looks like he broke out the Halloween costume a few days early :D

I thought this was supposed to be a Kerry supporter only thread? It would appear that some people are so argumentative that they've run out of people who can stand to post with them. Now they have to go somewhere else to start a fight.

Desperado, when you say "....(they) can always join the KKK and nazis", and that supporting our right to disagree with our government as "lacking character and integrity", you're just trying to start a fight.

BEGONE! Before someone drops a house on you, too! :p You have your Bush thread...I'd recommend you please use it.

Again, I would expect intolerance on the Bush thread, given the left's perception of conservatives. I never would have expected it here. What a surprise.

When I saw the tape this morning I said to DH "That looks like Karl Rove!"

Too funny.

good morning everyone!!

I love the pics of the huge Kerry Rally, Robin..looks like it was an awesome event!!

Now, Even though I am intelligent and very nice too, I have the horrible affliction of putting my foot in my mouth and falling flat on my face. I am the one that you will find out on a limb half the time.

so, I have a question for the more thoughtful Kerry supporters.

I have Kerry/Edwards signs in my yard as do my across the street neighbors and down the street neighbors. We have one yard with a bush sign on my street but I would say our neighborhood is 50/50. It is a quiet, older New England neighborhood.

If I were to put a life-size Uncle Sam on my door holding a "George, You're fired" sign, would that be inappropriate?
I plan to decorate on Nov 1 for election day with red white and blue outdoor lights and crepe paper and a huge flag pinwheel and Uncle Sam.
I need advice.

I would do it. It should make people laugh. I would laugh no matter which side you were slamming. But just read the two threads...we definitely have a better sense of humor:crazy:

Good morning everyone! I have coffee to go with the no-Bush brownies.

I thanked you for posting and hoped you were right in that TheAnswr's comment was taken out of context.

Why didn't you just ask what was meant by the poster who wrote it aka ThAnswr = me.

I haven't bitten anyone today, although the day is still young.

And, btw, to have someone copy what I wrote in this thread and paste into another thread so others can comment from a safe distance, is not only despicable, but cowardly. But, that's the hallmark of the rightwing in this country. Have Bush mouth all these wonderful words of unity and patriotism and "we're all in this together" and then have the rightwing talking heads (Limbaugh, Hannity, Medved, etc) throw mud at those of us on the other side of the aisle. How many times have Bush and Cheney been interviewed by Limbaugh? How many times has Rumsfeld and Rice been interviewed by Hannity? If they didn't support the heavy lifting and dirty work done by the Lilmbaugh's and Hannity's, they'd condemn it and refuse to shake their hand. Instead they embrace them.

This country is Lincoln's "house divided" for a reason. This election will solve nothing because the hope and plan is to thrown enough garbage in so that a packed Supreme Court can straighten it all out just like the election of 2000. What do I base that assertion on? Just for openers, read this headline "GOP may wield felon list" and story in my local newspaper and think about whether or not it is also happening in your community.

http://www.heraldtribune.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20041029/NEWS/410290312/1060

We're divided for a reason and that reason is to gain political power and then keep it by demonizing the other side.

We think our enemy is Al-Qaeda? No, Al-Qaeda united this country like it hadn't been united in generations. But, that unity was shattered by political powers who pushed their agenda and we're harvesting the disaster in Iraq with more division, more distrust, and more in-fighting.

So, no, I will not support George Bush and 4 more years of this.

Denise, I think all of your decorations sound appropriate and respectful, but I often put my foot in my mouth, too, and my whole family is way out on a limb this election.

Answr- like your smiley

Now, I have a question, "Did I do the right thing?" Two princesses were out trick-or-treating last night, and I was sitting on my porch to pass out candy. The older princess saw my Kerry sign and said politely, "I like Kerry." The younger princess (about 7) said in a very snotty voice, "I like Bush. Kerry s--ks." I was shocked at the language. So I gave the older princess a hand full of candy, and the younger one piece. Do you think that was mean? I also asked a child to pick up the piece of trash he had thrown in my yard. Was that mean? Other than that, the kids were way cute and got lots and lots of candy at my front door. I even liked seeing the teenagers trick-or-treating. They seemed to be having so much fun.

Why, thank you.

Understandable, but mean. The girl was just mouthing what she hears from the adults around her, but she may learn a lesson that you use that language only among friends. ;)

The princesses didn't make the comments in front of me, but sound carries so well from the road, here. They looked at me kind of confused and had no idea why the difference in candy. Yeah, it was mean. Oh, well.
