Kerry supporter here. We sure do need a change.::yes:: I was at Applebees yesterday with a friend of mine. Our server had a George W nametag on. My friend jokingly said that we weren't voting for him. He laughed and said he gets comments about his nametag all the time. From out of nowhere, the lady in the booth behind us tells us that a vote for Kerry is a vote for terrorism. Geez, I was just trying to enjoy my grilled chicken. In my area, almost every house has a political sign on the lawn. 80% are in support of Kerry. I sure hope Ohio gets it right this time.:D

beattyfamily, I may have to take back what I said about Democrat children being the cutest. Your little girl is lovely. BTW, welcome to the "dark side".:teeth: Stop by anytime.

 oh thank you very much! How sweet of you to say that! And thanks so much for the welcome fellow MA Diser!! :wave2:

I know what its like to be one of a few . I (now I'm REALLY showing my age) campaigned as a child for John Kennedy and was treated like a leper by my entire grade school! It was tough to be 9 and an outcast.

The first election I remember talking about in school was 1988, and I was the only kid in my class who voted for Dukakis. My very Republican mother was not pleased when I came home and told her. :) (My "crazy liberal" dad thought it was great...)

:wave2: Hello all, including beattyfamily!

Me, I'm glad we have this thread. The pro-Bush people I know in real life are great, but on this board there are some people who are getting really strident and insulting (from both parties too). So it's nice to have a political thread I can read and not get mad. I read the other ones too and I do post on political threads, I just also like having a thread where it's calm and not nasty. I think a lot of the Republicans on this board feel the same.

I think one reason some people are being so mean is because nobody can really predict the results of this election. The polls are all over the place, there are lots of statistically insignificant leads in many states--it's just not clear who's going to win. It's making everybody tense. I think once we know who's going to be in the White House for the next four years, people will calm down. I know I will. I just can't stand the suspense!

She is extremely cute. I love her outfit and she looks so happy. :)

Sirius, are you a little hopeful or something? ;) I don't expect it to be a landslide but it would be great if there was a clear mandate.

My sister told me a funny thing about the Cincinnati area election. The district attorney was running uncontested, but had to drop out at the last minute due to a scandal. They are having a write-in vote to elect the district attorney, which must then be hand counted, and could hold up the entire election process for the state of Ohio. Has anyone else heard this? I think they should just throw out any illegible ballots entirely and count the remaining (Note: this area is highly Republican and I am just kidding).

Wow, I sure hope this wouldn't have any affect on the presidential counts. I can see having to hand tally the write-in votes for that one position but I'd think they could first tally the ones that can be done my machine.

It's kind of addictive, isn't it. I just sent an email to my sister and had to make the conscious effort to not write in haiku form. :)

I can console myself with the thought that I'll be leaving soon for a much needed weekend away with friends.

I just read this on cnn, it doesn't say anything about pizza, drugs or brownies. Someone here is not doing their job!! ;)

fraud in florida

Oregon now has laws that prevent initiative petitioners from being paid per signature because of this type of thing. When you pay per registration, it unfortunately encourages the unscrupulous to find ways to cheat. They should just get paid hourly and have possible non-monetary prizes based on numbers of registrations.

I'm with you on paying them hourly. But not on the rewards based on the number of registrations, that will make them want to "cheat" to get more people registered.

I was more thinking about bonuses to give them some incentive to try for high numbers without making it worth cheating. Sometimes a little friendly competition for an inexpensive gift can motivate people more than you'd think. AT my previous employer, the customer service personnel could "win" company logo t-shirts, hates, etc. For most, these weren't worth the possible problems if they were caught cheating but it did help motivate most... although there are always going to be people who will still do only what they absolutely must to get by.

Never mind, I'll add no unpleasantness. Have a good weekend all. :)
