Now, correct me if I'm wrong, my opinion is this person who is "teaching" my child should in no way be passing her political beliefs onto my child. I was tempted to visit the teacher, but I didn't want to make it into If you don't share my opinions than you must be wrong. Because that is IMO the way most republicans work. I just want my kids to know facts not opinions.

I agree. The teacher's role should be to just explain the process of voting, give the kids unbiased information about the candidates and let them make their own choices. No matter which candidate the teacher supports, she should not express that preference in a classroom setting, especially for such a young class.

Now, if a teacher has a class close to the voting age, I might be more understanding of a teacher explaining his/her reason for supporting a specific candidate. However, even then the teacher should be very careful to make sure each student understand that the choice must be made by each student and not be subject to pressure from any other person or group.

Snoopy - In your situation, I can understand that it would be difficult for your children to not hear about politics. However, it sounds like you've allowed them to reach their own decisions about which party they'd choose. That's very different from what almost sounds like political "indoctrination" of some kids.

Actually, in our school district (and any other that I'm aware of), it is specifically forbidden to discuss politics as far as personal preferences. While I'm sure it happens, I'm also sure it's rare on both sides.

Most teachers don't consider trying to influence children, who can't even vote, worth losing their jobs.

Our kids get really mad when dad and I start "discussing" politics. :teeth: They have to tell us to simmer down. ;)

BTW, I'm kinda digging my sig picture on this thread. Kinda goes with the groovy-peace-lovin'-hippy-pot-smoking-tie-dye-wearing liberal theme on this thread. ;)

Hi everyone. Just wanted to share something with you about Mrs. Heinz Kerry's visit to Yardley PA yesterday.

A friend of mine attended and said the turnout was great and the enthusiasm and excitement were palpable. However, there were four "obnoxious" (her word) women there supporting Bush, and doing their best to shout everyone down with their "Four more years!" chants. What did Mrs. Kerry do? She walked right up to them to speak with them politely.

Now, contrast this to poor Sue Niederer who was ARRESTED for "trespassing" for speaking out at the Laura Bush event in NJ. This woman, who lost her son in Iraq (she said he was improperly trained for this particular mission), was told to "get a life" by a Republican Senator.

I like those shirts. I have a thing for tie die and Mickey too of course. :)

It's clear to me that Democrats have more fun now. The Republicans are way too gloomy!

Yet there are many people who think THK is a monster. People just kill me, so threatened by women who are outspoken.

And very territorial. They chastised a couple of posters from "our side" for trespassing on their thread. Really, can't they see how absurd that is on a public board?

I know, I really don't get the very apparent hatred of her. It's almost as if they can't find enough to complain about Kerry so they must attack his wife.

Yep, I was one of them. I didn't want to post there and I tried to do it by pm, but I got tired of being called names because they were so upset by a single pro-Kerry person posting on "their" thread when we all know we've been "infiltrated";) many times.

I enjoy being able to talk with people who agree my political views, but you're right, the trespassing thing is getting ridiculous.

I thought it was just a joke about everyone staying on their own threads, but I guess they're taking it very seriously!

Shades of Hilary Clinton. The level of hatred from the right toward her was astounding.

Yet when all is said and done, 100 years from now, people will remember Hilary Clinton. She was a trendsetter and a woman with her own mind and cleared the path for a different sort of First Lady in America's future. :)

To show just how absurd I feel the whole political climate has become on these boards, I just started my first political thread. However, I did ask that all posts be in the form of haikus.

On a happy note, living in a swing state I try to watch the polls closely. And on the front page of my local newspaper (which is very pro-republican)it has Kerry at49%, Bush 46% for Pennsylvania.:)

It's beyond absurb, it's downright sad. What happened to interesting discussions? More importantly, what happened to respect for other viewpoints? I feel like many of the Republicans think that Kerry supporters are wacky or ignorant among other things, none of them nice. It so often seems to be a case of Bush's way or the highway.

Again, not ALL of them act that way but an awful lot do.

 Don't have a lot of time to post these days, but wanted to give y'all a big wave and a "keep up the good thread" thumbs up.

In case some of y'all haven't seen it, The Nation did a really nice piece called "100 facts and 1 opinion: The non-arguable facts against the Bush administration." IT's well written and equally well-sourced (Not that many people on here will agree with that, since some of the sources come from 'liberal rags' like the NY Times, not 'fair and balanced' sources like Fox News... )

Anyhow, it can be found here:

You're very right, Snoopy. Eleanor Roosevelt was very much disliked by a lot of people, and look at how she's remembered now.

**Warning** Repbulican entering***

I hope I don't regret this but...I just wanted to send out an olive branch...

I was one of the PMs. I thought we were 'good'. I didn't see any name calling though. I do think this is all childish really. I was only surprised when my "venting" post was quoted and questioned by a Democrat...I just didn't think we were going to do that but it's no biggie.

Way back on page 3 of the Bush Supporters thread, LisaZoe posted a nice little post and no one attacked her. She was respectful and so was I.

Why don't we all just call a truce. We really do have a sense of humor. ;)

I'd love to see some of the other Bush Supporters posts on this thread, besides mine, of course...I can't seem to find them. I must have missed them!

So consider yourself welcomed in the Bush Supporters thread, at least by me, as long as we all can be respectful, it's all good!! :wave2:

**Leaving now** Sorry for the intrusion!

Just checking in with everyone. How's it going?

What do you all want to do about the Republicans wanting to come onto the thread? My intention when starting this wasn't to create a "Safe House" for us, but I have to admit, I rather enjoy coming on to this thread each day and not get my blood pressure into a roil. I also like the exchange of ideas regarding getting the vote out, etc, etc.
