Congrats to the Cards and their fans, crazyforgoofy
I'm looking forward to game 1 tomorrow

I think I have mentioned this on other threads, but on Monday, Novemeber 1, PBS will be re-airing the Frontline Election 2004 2 hour special look into the candidates.

This special helped me see that I AM making the right choice for President. I had more respect and admiration for Kerry after watching this program.

I believe that he truly loves this country and will do everything in his power to protect us and make us a stronger nation.

Me too! I just pray that we have a "real" winner this time and not a repeat of 2000. That would just fuel even more fire into that rancor and national divide and could lead right into ThAnswr's prediction of a civil war.

Yea, that being the case, I don't think things will go down as quietly this time around. I fear possible riots as a more immediate result.

If the election does have to go to the courts again, I think it will show a breakdown of the system. But I have little faith in a bipartisan effort that could affect any sort of substantial change.

Couldn't let LisaZoe's princess get ALL the attention ;) Gotta dig the tennis shoes with the dress!

And before I digress too far....

Up until recently, I wouldn't have said that I was "afraid" of Bush being elected.

However, having spent quite a bit of time reading about his decision making process, I'm most definitely afraid.

From all I read it would appear he pays little or no attention to anyone who disagrees with him. The reason being is that he believes that God speaks to him and is telling him what to do. Since there is no higher authority than God, he feels no need to pay attention to the opinions of mere mortals.

I fear anyone who has the power to control world events and believes that their actions are the will of God.

What a cutie she is luvsTink! :)

Sorry, I don't have a link for this, as SIL sent it to me in an email, but from the New York Times:

Joined by the widow of paralyzed actor Christopher Reeve, Democratic challenger John Kerry on Thursday said President Bush's policy on stem cell research was akin to favoring the candle lobby over electricity.

"It is wrong to tell scientists that they can't cross the frontiers of new knowledge,'' the Massachusetts senator said. "It is wrong morally and it is wrong economically, and when I am president, we will change this policy and we will lead the world in stem cell research."

Just one of the many reasons I'm supporting Kerry.

Good morning from the cloudy Golden State, all you true believers, defenders of democracy, lovers of liberty, fighting for freedom and campaigning for civil rights, kings and queens of this great country, supporters of John Kerry, Democrats.

So maybe people get bored with my morning intro (and weather report!) and my constant plugging of poll numbers... but what can I say, I'm a political "geek," when you spend three years of college studying basically nothing else, it kind of ingrains in you.

The thing about polls is, there's always good and bad in them (certainly this cycle that is so!) regardless of who is "your guy." So when you look at today's poll map, don't focus on the dead heat of 264-264, look at Florida, where Bush's lead is a statistical tie at 2%... and at Ohio, where Kerry has taken a solid 6% lead.

And if you want a little overall pick-me-up and a look at what the tie in FL and the Kerry lead in OH really mean, don't forget the Predicted Final Results, which factors in the undecideds at the traditional 2:1 break for the challenger.

On a lighter note, this cartoonist must be a Cardinals fan :teeth:

So the Bush supporters are in a Tizzy because Sinclair decided not to show Stolen Honor and how it is unfair that F911 was able to be shown.

I have no problem with the Kerry hating movie being shown in theaters or distributed on VHS or DVD. I DO have a problem with it being FORCED to be shown on Network TV without equal time for the other side.

Why not put it on Sundance after F911?

Which reminds me, I don't know if you guys have seen itor not, but Going Up River is a documentary as told by those who served with Kerry. www.thekerrymovie.com
Check it out :)

Therapeutic Smile....

They don't bore me. The first thing I do in the mornings is check the polls and see what's happening. It's nice to get an overview here.

Ohio is wonderful news for Kerry. While I'd like to see a landslide long before election night, I'm not at all unhappy with the way things stand at the moment!

Btw LvsTink...Great pic, what a darling she is! Gotta love those tennies!:D

Oh dear. That will be the battle cry that launches the civil war that ThAnswer has predicted. Somebody start sewing our flag...put luvstink and LisaZoe's princesses in the center!:D

(And for all those Republicans reading...this is a joke, or actually the continuation of a joke. Just to be clear. If you can't laugh days away from the election, when can you laugh?)

I have to admit I am torn about the whole idea of the separate-but-equal threads for each candidate's supporters. It's definitely great to be able to express one's feelings about the current political scene without having to worry about others launching a pre-emptive strike. I'm also quite amused by the absurdity of it. On the other hand, it does, unfortunately, echo the growing division between the more vocal supporters of each candidate. I try to console myself by the thought that the really rabid members of each side are a minority and that most of us will really make the effort to heal the rift post-election.

LuvsTink - Gotta admire such a sensible and beautiful princess. Zoe wanted to wear her "princess" shoes like many other girls she saw but luckily I "forgot" to pack them so she had to wear her regular sandals. :)

Thanks everyone for the compliments of Zoe. To be fair, if you had seen her attempting to climb the stairs before this photo was taken, you might not think she's quite so regal. :) Unfortunately, I was so busy laughing as I watched that I didn't think to take a picture. (And to brag a bit - I made the dress.)

Sorry, I don't discuss politics with Zoe so we'll have to abdicate that throne. :) Like religion, I want her to make her own choice when the time comes. Until then, I'm really trying to not influence her at such an impressionable age. I have to admit that I've been a bit surprised by the number of posters from the "other side" who seem to have no problem doing just that and are so happy when their children "parrot" their political sentiments. (Sorry if this offends anyone but it is just my opinion and not a criticism of others' parenting.)

Quite honestly, I don't know what party affiliation my parents had. I like that my choice was neither one following nor opposing theirs but just the one that felt right to me.

LisaZoe, my sister and I had a conversation about children and politics yesterday.

Her 4 year old has heard a lot of things not so complimentary of Mr. Bush and his policies (they live in Madison, WI - a VERY liberal city) and asked his dad if the Badgers winning their game would help "stop George Bush's evil plan." And his friend Nicholas told his mom "I know why George Bush started a war. It's because he has a little tiny brain." Add that to the little kids choosing Kerry for President on Nickelodeon and perhaps 4 year olds ought to be able to vote!::yes::

Kids and politics is a touchy subject for me lately. It seems my kids held a mock election at school, which I think is great to teach them hands on how democracy works.

Here's the problem...My 10 year old fifth grade DD came home and told me only 2 kids in her class voted for Kerry. I was a little surprised. Right now her class has a student teacher that is in charge of the elections. DD (Kara) told me that this student teacher informed all of the children that Bush will probably win the upcoming election because of his leadership abilities. He has been a great leader through wartime and has had to make tough choices and always choices the right path.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, my opinion is this person who is "teaching" my child should in no way be passing her political beliefs onto my child. I was tempted to visit the teacher, but I didn't want to make it into If you don't share my opinions than you must be wrong. Because that is IMO the way most republicans work. I just want my kids to know facts not opinions.

Anyhow, it felt good to vent that. BTW, Kara was one of the two votes.:)

I still remember during the Watergate investigation and hearings that one of the girls in our class (does that "date" me or what ;)) tried to say something in support of Nixon. I have no doubt she was repeating what her parents had said at home. What sticks our most in my mind, now that I'm a parent, is how ostracized this girl was for quite awhile because of her comments.

My DD isn't even 3 yet and I've already seen other kids find ways to exclude her. It's all the basic kid stuff, you're too little, you're "not my friend today", etc. I certainly don't want to say anything at home that she might repeat which would only give other kids another reason to hurt her. Unfortunately, all kids can be cruel (mine included) because they really don't understand fully how hurtful somethings they do can be. Perhaps I'm being too protective about this.

Also, no matter what I may think of the person in the office of President, I want my DD to respect that position. I know she won't be able to distinguish the difference between the person and the position so feel my role is to set an example and respect the position. As such I keep my opinions of the person to be shared with adults who can understand the difference.

My kids have grown up discussing politics....since their Dad has worked for two different Presidents, not to mention their parents from opposite party lines, I think its only natural they would have an interest. I'm sad to say that my older child has defected on me, but I'm not giving up on changing his mind. :)

Very good point. We always try and stress the importance of respecting the President, even though we might not agree with the administration's stance on issues.
