??? for June July4th trip 2010

I am planning a trip for my family that starts June 29th- July 6th 2010 and since this is a very hot, very crowded time of year, I'm looking for any and all advice on making it as enjoyable as possible. It will be my husband and I, as well as my 9 year old step-son and 22 month old daughter(at the time of the trip). We have to go at this time to accomodate my step-son's summer visitation. (His mother is very difficult and there would be NO WAY of scheduling at a better time of year.) I want him to have this experience while he's still a kid.
I have found TONS of helpful advice on these boards, but it is very time-consuming to look up specific info. and between taking care of my 9 month old and going to school, it doesn't leave me much time through the day.
SO! If I could get any advice- from the airport and plane ride (with carseat), to the best attractions for 22 mth old daughter and shows that would be best for us as a family, that would be great!
Also, I was wondering what is the nearest beach to WDW and is renting a car the only/cheapest option in getting to the beach? I would love for my entire family to see the ocean as I already have. Otherwise, we are staying entirely onsite. ALL THAT being said- Thank you fellow DISer's!!!
P.S.- When is the soonest I can make my resort reservations? We will be staying at POP.

We will be staying at Pop Century from June 30 - July 13 of this year. We plan on an afternoon at Clearwater Beach. We are driving from Michigan so we have our own car. The plan is to get up and be at an EMH park by 7:30 AM. This is an absolute must with the heat!! Don't plan to do everything and you'll be ok.
