Just curious, am I the only one who already has quite the collection of MB's? We have AP's and now have 5 MB's already, plus 6 more are waiting to be customized for reservations we have between now and November.

At least 4 so far... getting worried about that growing plastic island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean!

I have asked by phone, please let's use one of the old bands. But so far they do not want to re-use old MB. :confused3
Something about re-using the bands causes a cost or problem at their end, either the data entry/retrieval aspect of it, or there is a potential for the wrong person to show up at the resort or park with your old band.

Maybe if we all keep asking and mentioning how wasteful the current system is, we might nudge them into re-using old MB (reportedly have battery life for 2 or 3 years).

We got 2 sets in September. We will get another set in May and yet another in October. That will make a total of 12 :thumbsup2:lmao:

3 stays on our vacation in the past week and a half. We now own 18.

Some notes--for any linked reservations, the bands will work. My sister used her daughter's band from GF Villas at WL Villas and it worked.

GF was insistent we could use the same bands again and that we should have only one set if the reservations were linked. But I had bands packed away, so no biggie. And they were surprised when I told them that my reservations were linked and it still had me order different sets.

WL seemed to solve this mystery--but who knows? They said that batteries are supposed to last for 2 years but as they are still in testing, they will still send guests up with bands for each reservation. They also said you can still reuse bands. They will work. My sisters' bands did.

I have two - pink and blue. I had an AP reservation for November and customized it as blue and then after it arrived, I switched to DVC when my waitlist came through, so it asked me to customize again and I got pink. Have a trip in May, not sure if I'll bother getting another color, those are my 2 favorites. From what I understand, you can use any band that is linked to your account.

I've got 4 so far, and that's after turning down a couple at various check-ins.

I'm glad you posted this. I was wondering if the same bands could be reused. That stinks that they won't allow you to do that especially if you blinged out the first MB with their merchandise:confused3

The CM was mistaken. MB's can easily be reused. There is no data entry/retrieval issue at all. All a MB does is provide a link to your data on the WDW central computer system. You can manage your MB's on the MDE website. We've used an assortment of MB's and RFID enabled AP's interchangeably on our visits.

4 from a November trip.
My DD and I are doing a split stay in March so 2 each for that and 5 that are waiting to be customized for a trip in June.
So a total of 13 for our family of 5.
I like have a few colors to choose from in my own little collection but it does seem wasteful.

We have used the same ones on a split stay before-twice, also. I was just here at home looking at our collection (5 for me, but add my DH's And DS's=15)
Then I was doing the math...hmmm 3 in our party at 6 reservations booked and paid for already=ALOT of MB's!
Glad we are not the only one with the ever growing collection! :rotfl2:

Don't throw them away!

The CM explained or understood it wrong.

Just use your old ones. There is no problem. Just bring them.

Just because Disney is currently sending them out for each reservation we make doesn't mean we have to toss the old ones!

I have every color but yellow. Including grey. I used them interchangeably on our last visit without any issues.

TOO many!! They won't stop giving them to me!

As a family of 4 including a 2 year old who doesn't even need one we have:

8 from Pop, 4 from Beach Club Villas, and 4 more from BC (split stay)
4 from AOA

And unfortunately getting 4 more in March from CSR and 4 more in May at Ft. Wilderness Cabins.

We each use the first ones we received at Pop and I don't ever plan on changing. Guess we'll never have to pay the replacement fee if my 4 year old loses his!

In total I was given 5 magic bands, and have 2 more for upcoming vacations, each time they give me a new one, I've started just reusing the blue one that I like, and is linked to my AP.

I emailed asking if it was possible to just use the one linked to the AP and they got back to me without an answer, so each time I check in I just add the reservation to the blue band and they recycle the grey one waiting for me!

The AP is linked to your account. The band is linked to your account. Any of the bands they give you, as long as it's linked to your account, will access your AP.

Just in case you feel the urge to have a red or orange or green etc one. :)

^^ This. The bands by default are activated on your MDE account when they are sent. They will remain activated after you have used them during your trip and even if a new band has been sent to you for your next trip the old ones stay activated on your account. You can physically go into your MDE account and deactivate individual bands if you so desire.

Oh my, how many? I personally have four right now. On my trip last week, we booked a bounce back for flower and garden, that will be five, and also a split stay for eight nights in September, those will be six and seven...:) I'm just waiting for Disney to start making them with a little digital time display below the Mickey head...

The interesting side effect of this is that you can now open your room door with your AP!

Local here: I have been told by a CM at Port Orleans that the Magic Bands are good for 2 yrs (that's how long battery lasts) and that they ARE recyclable. Just ask a CM who is trained with the Magic bands if they are recycling them, and they will do that for you. They are working on making a more permanent ones for CM and AP holders, which is probably why they didn't roll these out to the AP holders first. You can recycle the box that the MBs come in as well. Not too sure about the foam, but definitely the box.

I've been calling Disney and trying to get them to get the word out that you CAN do this to the MBs, but I think they are counting on the MBs to be a super collectible item and souvenir from your vacation and they are missing the main point of who wants to have 10 mbs laying around? Much like the mugs - I've got 7+, certainly don't need anymore!
