We are moving to NC (the RTP area) and have a question about in-ground pools.

Compared to the greater Boston area, in-ground pools don't appear to be a widely used which is surprising considering the heat and humidity in NC.

Am I making a false observation or is there a reason you don't install an in-ground pool in NC?

Hi, i live between Greensboro and Winston-Salem N.C. We have had our in- ground pool for 5-yrs. now.We really only get to swim in it from late May till end of Aug., because of the weather. I am sure if it was heated we could at least get a few more months in. Anyways, it is AWESOME when the Temp. is high outside. We enjoy it very much. Lots of pool parties. nana2tots:Pinkbounc

I think the reason that most middle class people here don't have them is that virtually all new neighborhoods have a pool and that there also are many nice, well-established swim clubs. Is that the case in Boston, too? When you get into higher incomes, the country club pool is available, too. There also are some issues with the dirt in some places -- same reason you don't see basements in some areas.

One thing that strikes me is that the people I know who have built pools the past few years are very high income and have built extremely large and elaborate pools. I don't know exactly what that means . . .

BTW, welcome to North Carolina! Have you chosen YOUR TEAM yet? There's no one better than my beloved Tar Heels, so go ahead and get yourself some Carolina Blue and make yourself at home.

Maybe it's the part of the state you saw? I know many more people with in ground pools vs. above ground ones...There shouldn't be any reason with the NC dirt from what I know, and I've lived across the Western and Central parts of the state and frequented the coastal areas....I've never even been in an above ground pool, only seen one at one neighbor's house....Pools aren't common where I'm from though, too tough to get flat land, and if you do, then the mountains make it shady all day, so it never warms up!

And I have to respectfully disagree with the choice of sports teams listed above....Go Wolfpack! I graduate in 13 days!!

We live in Eastern NC and have had an in-ground pool for the last 14 years. We usually open it about the first of May and close it around the last of September.

For the first and last couple of weeks we use a pool heater because, even though the days are warm, the nights are cool so the water is too cold for me (I can't stand water below 86 degrees).

We love ours and get a lot of use out of it. :D

You're in Kernersville?????

Gee, we haven't been invited to any pool parties!!!

 Well, Hi Neighbor, Guess you will have to come on over!!:yo-yo: I live in Colfax, my daughter lives in Kernersville, off 150, where abouts do you live? Nana2tots:wave2:

Or, you could actually pull for a team that wins and go with the Wolfpack of NC State. Plenty of red will do.

And it's not Carolina Blue, it's baby blue.

teh fish.......did you really say "BABY" blue???? Ohhhh, I'm telling my Dad (UNC grad) what you said!!! Gonna be bad times ahead!!! :scared: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

hehe Tell him that it's generally referred to by the patients that come into my office as "Orange County Community College" That one was my absolute favorite and I try to use it as often as possible. I'm nearly a NCSU grad and teh fish will be a NCSU grad as well, so we're a little partial I guess...Although I may be at UNC for grad school, I'll still wear my red with pride, and carry my NCSU tote bag to class! :teeth:

LOL I'm a Meredith Angel sporting my Carolina Blue all over Raleigh :) :) :) GO HEELS.

As for the pools....I know many homes in Granville County (where I grew up) have the in ground pools b/c they have enough land. Many of the new subdivisions in Raleigh/Cary/RTP etc don't have enough room to have a pool....so they have community pools instead. However...the HOA dues can be outrageous. We refuse to pay $400 a year just to get access to a pool. Welcome to the area!!!!

:p In-ground pools are like car payments, that is how we are able to afford one, i , by no means live in a big house, mine is a cracker jack box.LOL:wave: nana2tots
