"Use of PayPal on eBay
Notice Date: July 14, 2005
Effective Date: August 19, 2005
Beginning August 19, 2005, if you sell on eBay and offer PayPal, your PayPal account must accept all forms of payment including payments made via credit card, regardless of whether you display the PayPal logo with credit card icons. You must have a Premier or Business PayPal Account or be willing to upgrade from a Personal PayPal Account to a Premier or Business Account if you receive a credit card payment. You may not communicate to eBay buyers (e.g. via your eBay item description) that you only accept, or will not accept, specific forms of PayPal payment."

This is why I don't sell much on eBay anymore...I hate when there is no competition since eBay bought PayPal...they are taking such big cuts it's not worth it anymore.

I use a business account anyway, so it wont' affect me. I only posted it as a heads up..and I love that Paypal just came out with a way to take charge cards from my home, at a very reasonable charge compared to "regular" charge card companies.

That really stinks! That will be the end of my accepting Paypal at all. I don't sell often, but have taken Paypal cash payments. No more!

Hopefully enough people will protest that they will back off, but I doubt it!

Sheila

Yep, I don't sell that much anyway and now I won't. It will be money order only and I see a lot of other auctions going that way as well.

I'm a little confused...why is this a bad thing? (Please know that I don't mean to sound condescending, I'm just a bit naive on this topic)

Because personal PayPal accounts basically are now useless.

You pay a higher fee to paypal when the buyer pays with a credit card vs. with existing funds or checking account debit.

Aww, I see. Thank you :sunny:

Is there a fee for having a Premier account? (I thought that's what everyone had if you didn't have a business account)

What's sad though, is, as a bidder, I won't bid on auctions that only accept money orders. It's so much easier to just pay through PayPal or BidPay. :guilty: Generally, sellers have a pretty good idea of how much an item is going to sell for when they put it up. Since PayPal charges so many cents on the dollar, maybe the sellers could just up their asking price by another dollar or two to make up for the difference in higher fees? Just an idea.

I don't take paypal credit cards as there was a thread (maybe a newspaper article) a long time ago about people shipping items and than having credit card disputes. That certainly is not worth my time.

Too bad, I just got back into selling and was "cleaning house" guess I better pick up the pace!

I won't wvwn bid on an item that I can't pay with Paypal. I think it's actually going to hurt the business of those who won't take it.

Well, there goes my sister's idea of selling on ebay.
There is no way she will link her paypal to her bank account.
I have a separate bank account for my paypal, but she won't do that.
When she tries to list auctions accepting money order only most of the auctions don't even get one bid. She has a lot more people who don't pay, too.
It's just one more way for ebay/paypal to get money for auctions. Auction listing fees, end of auction fees, paypal fees.
Oh well, where else but ebay can I find a $2 toy at a flea market and sell it for $58. Even after fees I still made $50 profit. That will pay for something nice at WDW. :)

::yes:: I'm in Canada, and the mail here is very slow. If I use PayPal, I pay immediately after the auction and the seller can send me off my item right away. I usually have it in hand within two weeks. When I first started-money orders-it was often six weeks before I had it. :(

I have 6 items listed on ebay right now but it is the first time in about 10 months that I have sold anything. I am finding that I can't make much from small items like clothes... That there has to be a significant profit to cover my eBay and PayPal fees and make it worth my time. Maybe I will switch to bidpay money orders only.

I will continue to sell items on eBay with Paypal restrictions.

I do not accept PayPal from buyers who do not fit PayPal's own requirements for seller protection. This excludes almost all non-US buyers and all buyers who do not have a PayPal confirmed address for shipment.

You can have a slightly higher eBay starting price to make up for PayPal fees but once the bidding gets underway that slightly higher increment disappears.

I wouldn't mind if Paypal charged the fee only when a credit card was used. Charging the fees on all transactions, however, makes small items not worth the expense.

Right now, I have 2 paypal accunts, 1 premier and 1 personal. My ebay auctions are paypal only (but I haven't sold that much lately). I have the personal account linked to ebay, but then I state in my auctions that if the buyer is paying by credit card, to contact me for the paypal email address. I put the credit card paypal email address on my invoices. Haven't had a problem with this yet, but I wonder if this will still be allowed?!
