For Change Jar Savers....where do you....

We have Coinstar here in NY and I just don't wanna give them 8 cents (or whatever it is up to now) on the dollar!!!

Do you know of any banks that will count for you or are they all that you need to roll them and put your account number on each roll.

Thanks.....hoping for 200-300 bucks out of my change jar!!!

I have taken change to our local bank and had it in rolls. They had some kind of machine that they just put all the money in at once and it counts it.

As long as it's rolled your own bank should take it to deposit into your bank account. My bank does both, they count it (for a small fee I think) and they take the rolled coins.

Commerce bank has free coin counting machines and you don't haev to be a member of the bank. My credit union also has coin sorting, but you have to belong to the CU to use it.

I don't know if you have the same banks we do here in Michigan, but both of our banks have a free service... our primary, fifth third makes you bring them in in rolls. Our other credit union, MSU FCU has a change machine that you can use for FREE!

We just took ours in today and we're saving the money for our Oct Disney trip. $398 smackeroos! That would have cost us over $30 at one of those pay machines.

Now I gotta start a new change jar...

I take ours to the Coinstar machine. My 2 children took their change the other day and had $100-they'd only been saving for a month.

A lot of banks will make you roll it or they will count it for a fee.

If I had a large amount, I would take the time and roll it.

Our bank actually prefers you don't bring it rolled! LOL Why? Because then they just have to open the rolls and pour in the change in the machine to count it anyway- so it actually makes more work for them!

If your bank requires it to be rolled and you don't want to do that, try a local credit union. My credit union will take loose change but only if it is separated by coin type (only pennies, only nickels, etc.)

Last time we traded in our change, I spent weeks rolling the coins. When I brought it in to our credit union, THEY WOULDN"T TAKE IT ROLLED! I had to sit there and unwrap them all! I could have cried. So the moral of the story is, check with your bank first before spending the time to roll them.

If possible, bring it someplace that doesn't charge to count it. IT would be a shame to lose some money.

My Credit Union takes the money in the jar and counts it for me for free .

I called our local Commerce bank yesterday and they said non customers can use the machine if they have a valid driver's liscence.. We have been saving since last Fall. Hoping to have at least $700.

I bank with Commerce Bank, and they have a free coin counting service ("Penny Arcade"), and it's great. I took $60 in change right before my last trip to WDW, and they cashed it without a problem. I have about another $100 in a large coin bank here, and I'll take that back to Commerce just before my next trip to WDW.

Commerce Bank counts for free and they have never asked me for a driver's license. If you find a branch that has the newer machine, they also have something really neat. I brought my daughter last time and the video display prompts you to guess how much money you have. If you are within a certain amount ($2 I think), the kid wins a gift. My daughter guessed well and won a Commerce Bank t-shirt.

That seems like it would encourage children to save money.

I guess I'm different. I don't let all that change build up. It gets to heavy for me to take in. I have a little change sorter, not the electric one, you just drop the coins in the top, one at a time, and they fall into the correct size tube - quarters, nickels, dimes and pennies. Then you can slide a coin wrapper over the stack and close up the ends.

What I do is every few days empty my purse and clean the change off my husband's dresser and drop it all in the sorter. As soon as a tube is full, I roll it, then save the rolls until I have $20 worth. Next time I go to the bank I take that in and get a $20 bill.

I keep all the 20's in an envelope, hidden in the house. When I have about $200 worth I take the envelope to the bank and put in our safe deposit box.

Seems like a lot of work, but it's not, since I just do it if I'm going the bank anyway. I know I could put the money in my checking account, but it seems to get spent if I do!

My bank wants it rolled so........after rolling almost $45 in pennies to start off with, I now roll silver AND pennies as soon as there is enough for a roll..

I started in April - it's just me saving change - and so far I have $57 rolled!!
