Since TransMeridian have gone belly up I would like some feedback from people in the Southern Half of Michigan or Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton or Cincinnati area what airlines do you use to fly down to Florida. We have no trip presently planned but I would like to know for future references. Thanks

I live in Saginaw Michigan...We usually fly either Northwest or Delta out of Flint..and have really had no problems...so far.... :earsboy:

We live 20 miles north of Detroit have always flown out of Metro on NWA. We will be trying Spirit this December out of Metro. The savings was too great this time and NWA was facing the mechanics strike when I booked. Never booked Spirit before because of reputation for late and cancelled flights. Hope things have changed! Also, I hear good things about Airtran out of both Bishop and Metro. Not enough direct flights for us though.

Would like to try Flint-Bishop some day.

Currently live in Columbus but grew up in Toledo. We have mostly flown Delta because they have great direct flights, but have also taken Northwest and have not experienced any problems.

I live in southeast lower michigan. My family has always flown Delta or NWA for trips to Florida. I have been flying NWA a lot more over the past 10 years or so and find that their prices are way better than delta. In fact, I just checked some airfare rates about a week ago from DTW (Detroit) to LAS (Las Vegas) because my boyfriend and I are planning on going and the flight via Delta was almost double what the flight via NWA would be.

Definitly compare prices. I think, in my opinion anyway, the service is comparable but if price is a factor, you may be better off going with NWA!

We are using COntinental from Cleveland this time...decent deal a couple of weeks ago!

But, if you check Southwest, they offer GREAT deals from Columbus with their DING fares...I just saw $35 each way!!!

What are DING fares?

Yes it looks like there are some decent airlines out there but we will have to drive 2 or 3 hours and leave our vehicle at the airport. Must be flexible is the main thing. Thanks

I live in a suburb of Detroit. We fly either NWA, Spirit or Southwest to Orlando.
Southwest does not fly non-stop, but they do offer one flight everyday that has a stop with no change - we've done that and it's no big deal. We were only on the ground about 1/2 hour.

I have never had any problems with any of these airlines and we've been to Orlando numerous times.

We're near Dayton, from which Airtran flies one nonstop daily to & from Orlando. For us this is the perfect solution.

We find cheap flights from Columbus all the time, either directs on Delta, Southwest and even America West a few times (soon to be called US-airways when they combine in 2006). In may we got direct delta flight for $100.00 round trip per person. We've yet to fly out of Cincy since it is usually more expensive (when I was going to Miami Univ that is near Cincinnati it was really annoying to see that it was cheaper to go back to Columbus, fly to Cincinnati airport and continue on flight than just going to Cincinnati directly, makes no sense :confused3)

I find that Columbus is a very competative market and there are deals to be had by flying out of there to Orlando. Overall the best prices I have been seeing are coming from SW. I first booked a Ding one way for $53/person. I got anxious about getting a return flight and booked a one way w/ Delta for $63. I'm completely kicking myself.......a few weeks later another DING comes out for the $35/person. So I cancelled my original $53 DING and rebooked. So I now have a credit with SW I can use for a later flight. Problem is I'm stuck with my Delta rate.

Moral of the story..... start checking prices so you have an idea for the market and be patient. If you decide to fly out of Columbus I'd definetly go with SW without any hesitation. (still kicking myself for booking Delta) And be patient for a DING!!!! I've seen several come across for Columbus.

We are flying USA3000 out of Cleveland in December. They just started nonstop flights from CLE to MCO. Only bad thing we have found is they only fly out a few times a week but the fares are great if you can make it fit.

Both Spirit and NWA out of Detroit are direct flights, and often (but not always) well-priced.

Dayton...We fly airtran nonstop. We have tickets for Dec 18/27 for $202 per person.

I agree Brian... you really have to keep an eye on the prices and compare the two constantly! Spirit was $1800 for two round trip tickets around Easter... NW was $800. I watched Spirit drop to $500 and went to book the next day, they were up to $700.

Checked Northwest... and only First Class left on our two days that were options to come home... so.... I booked Spirit at $700, finally!

We got two tickets roundtrip from orbitz non-stop flying out of Indianapolis for $150 (including taxes and fees) I think we're flying Northwest the whole way.

I generally fly NWA, SWA or SPIRIT out of DTW in that order. There are times that NWA's fares can beat SWAs and times that SPIRIT can beat NWA. I am wondering how the addition of Airtran in November is going to affect fares. Right now I am not seeing any deals on ANY of the carriers for the days/dates I need.

I'm lucky enough to live right in the middle of Cincinnati & Dayton. We use both airports depending on flight schedules. We always us DL to Florida because they have non-stop flights. Cincinnati has more non-stop flights, but usually more expensive. Dayton only has one non-stop a day to and from MCO but is less $$.
Airtran has one non-stop a day too, but will not fly them I don't care how CHEAP the tkt. is.

Thanks for the tip!! They have the best fares for me by $50! Every little bit helps. DH won't drive all the way to Columbus unless I can find great airfare. And he won't let me download Ding :(
