For All Who Come to this Happy Place: My 1st Trip to DL for the POTC World Premiere!

Hi everyone! :yay:

Hope you are having a nice weekend so far! :) Sorry, I haven't been on to update this week. I'll hopefully be able to get to the next installment later this evening! So, be on the look-out!

Hi there! I've just spent the past hour & 1/2 reading and relishing your trip report. Well done! You and hubby are certainly tenacious. I don't know if I'd have the stamina to do what you did.
With all the memories you've captured, you'll be able to relive these moments forever! Thank you for sharing them. :goodvibes

Hi There Lindsey!

I have been wondering where you were. I am missing your installments. Glad to hear you will be posting soon.:thumbsup2

TTFN,
Darlene

Have you been holed up reading Harry Potter too Lindsey?????

Waiting patiently for the next installment...........popcorn::

I met him at the sound check before a concert in Atlanta. It was truly a dream come true. I haven't watched General Hospital in years, but I am taping it every day now.

Disney-Kim thanks for the pictures of Club33

Lindsey....I love your pics from California Adventure. I went not long after it opened & it looks like they have some great additions. I am working on talking DH into a Fall 2008 California trip.

That is so neat! Do you have a picture to share, by any chance!? ;)

Sounds like your trip was great. I would love to go back and see that park again, I was out there when I was 10 and the only thing I remeber about Disneyland was the Monorail going through the park and how everything was close together. I thought it was so weird because I was used to WDW and how everything is spread out and the monorail not going through MK.

Going to have to make a trip out there and see all of the new stuff.

It's so worth another trip! :goodvibes Yeah, the monorail in Disneyland is kinda a waste and too long of a wait, but it is neat to be on the "original!" I do have pictures coming up in the Trippie of it too! I love how it is a totally different park from MK in WDW because it makes it a new experience. I was expecting the same thing and I was so pleasantly surprised! :)

Hi Lindsey!:wave2:
Really enjoying the last couple of installments!:thumbsup2

I must say as far as the weather is concerned...I was clueless. In my mind S Ca is always warm and sunny...low humidity. I really would have never dreamed it was so cool and damp. We would probably go in late Oct. Any idea how the weather is that time of year? or the crowds? I will def. have to research that when I start planning my trip. So, thanks for the heads up on that!;)

I know the night of the premiere you guys must have been exhausted. I can't imagine sitting/standing/waiting in such a small area for so many hours. I have been that tired only a couple of times before - when you just felt to tired to eat...it is a bad way to be.:rotfl: But worth it for Johnny pirate: :thumbsup2
Oh the memories you will have....lucky girl!

The pictures from the park look wonderful. I really want to go now...:rolleyes1

Thanks so much for sharing. You are doing a fantastic job.:woohoo:

Darlene:wave2:

I am really hoping to get back to Disneyland in December this year, that's what we tentatively have planned right now. It's just a thought right now! I'd love to see the park decorated for Christmas! :santa: We shall see! ;) We threw the last trip together last minute, so I'm sure we could pull it off this time too. I wonder how cold it is in Cali in December.

The restaurant was not very big and there was a side banquet room with taxidermy animals around the top of the room that were rumored to have secret microphones in them for when Walt met with people...;)
The area where we ate was one big room done in ornate Victorian decor and we had basically a fancy dinner. Our food was comped so we pigged out.
It was about a $200 dinner without alcohol. There were other people dressed up fancy but you knew they were only there to eat and not tour the park.
I felt out of place in our warm sweatshirts BUT we had been in the park for hours and it was cold. We were there in Oct or Nov...can't remember which.
We did see Mary Rakjusub the actress ( I think I got her name wrong and butchered it) she is on the show 24....but not at the time we went..we were there in 2003. We bought a few souveniers and took the paper napkins off the table. We bought writing pens, a tie tac, and a shotglass. The polo shirts were boring and there wasn't much selection of stuff to buy. It was very businessy stuff.
The picture of us in front of the wood/glass area...thats the elevator you take up to the restaurant...its on the 2nd floor...sort of above the crystal shops in NO SQ and above Cafe Orleans. We could see Fantasmic from the windows...which was COOL !!

it was a really great experience and we will probably never get to do that again in our lifetime...which is a weird thought...;)

Okay, the taxidermy animals would really creep me out! :scared: Did you check to see any clues for hidden microphones!? :rotfl2: That is too funny! I wonder what else Walt had hidden around!? I'm so glad you got to experience that! I would be in awe the entire time! :goodvibes Fantasmic wasn't going on while we were in Disneyland and I know that's a must for our next trip! I heard it was better than WDW!

OMG! You got to see Johnny!! Just catching up after 5 days of :headache: (abscessed tooth+allergic reaction to antibiotics=hospital stay & a root canal:eek: ) I was missing this TR soooooo bad...I am home now scrambling through the pages and :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

I'm so glad you were able to capture Johnny on video. He was looking right at you. And you seemed so close!!! Like you could have reached out and grabbed him! ;) I just love him. Maybe I missed it, were you able to get his autograph?? I'll bet you were in heaven. :cloud9:

Oh my goodness! :scared: I am so glad you are okay! Are you feeling better now? I really hope so! I may be having some upcoming mouth surgery. Not sure yet. It's still in the works... Mouth and teeth issues are no fun at all! :sad2: I'm glad you were able to catch up and I hope the Trippie made you no think about the pain for a little bit. I've been away for a few days, so I've got to get back to work! :yay: Sadly, I did not get Johnny's autograph, it I know if he could have just signed ONE more autograph, it would have been mine! Dumb security...:headache:

I've really enjoyed your TR!! The pics are awesome! It looks like you guys had a great time!

Club 33 is also on my "must sees." Here is more info on it --

I must go check this out!!! Thanks for posting!

Lindsey,

I'm so glad that you enjoyed DCA! I think it gets a bad rap...lol It holds a special place in my heart b/c that's where our wedding reception was! You were in the areas we had it...Hyperion queue (the Aladdin show waiting area) and Sun Plaza!

Next time you are out here, you should get corn dogs...oh wait, you don't eat corn dogs, huh? Bummer, they are really good. Well, they have fried cheese...do you eat that? ;) The cornbread batter is really good, that's why! :thumbsup2 Did you get a mickey shaped sourdough bread? Wait, your trippie probably isn't over yet! Sorry I jumped the gun! LOL

I'm from so cal and I've purchased DL sweatshirts so don't feel too badly about it...;) You'd think that by now I'd have the foresight to bring a jacket every time...:sad2:

p.s. definitely if you can find someone to get you into club 33...it's worth the experience! the food is just amazing! we went for our anniversary last year, but DH wouldn't let me take pictures of the food b/c he said that it's tacky to do that in a nice restaurant... :( no matter that everyone else was doing it! LOL

That is so neat that you had your wedding reception there! :goodvibes I was actually checking into Disneyland's Fairy Tale Wedding the other day at work and I was quite amazed! I should have packed up and made my way over to the other coast for my wedding! :rotfl2:

No, no corndogs for me, but fried cheese is right up my alley! I love cheese and being vegetarian, it is one of my fav foods!!! :yay: I'll put it on my list for next time. I didn't have enough time to eat a lot on this trip, but we did hit a few very good places! :goodvibes I didn't get to try the Mickey shaped sourdough bread, but I have seen a picture of it. I think it is so neat how so many of the foods at DL are all shaped like Mickey! It's just not like that or as neat at WDW! Everything in DL is Mickey shaped, even more so that WDW and that's just amazing to me! Like, the Mickey pretzels, etc. So cool!

Hi there! I've just spent the past hour & 1/2 reading and relishing your trip report. Well done! You and hubby are certainly tenacious. I don't know if I'd have the stamina to do what you did.
With all the memories you've captured, you'll be able to relive these moments forever! Thank you for sharing them. :goodvibes

I'm so glad you found my Trippie and joined in on the fun! There is still more to come! :wizard:

I love the mickey foods! :thumbsup2 Esp. the mickey pretzels! They don't have those at wdw? I think foods taste better when they're mickey shaped...;) lol

I'm FINALLY back! I know I vanished for a while, but I've just been really exhausted lately and haven't gotten much accomplished. :surfweb: Not to mention, we've have some really heavy thunderstorms and we keep losing power and our cable, which means no Internet!

But, I'm back and that means...

on with the Trippie!!!

Disney's California Adventure
Part 3

The "Kid Zone" at Disney's California Adventure is all "A Bug's Life" themed, which is so neat! It's a lot like the "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids!" Play Area over at Disney MGM-Studios in WDW, but on a much bigger or should I say "smaller" scale! :rotfl:

n25002324_32314847_7631.jpg

They had the characters hiding around everywhere and I noticed that Disneyland has a lot of very pretty plants and flowers everywhere! It's really luscious, if that's the right word to use! :goodvibes

n25002324_32314858_917.jpg

n25002324_32314846_7305.jpg

Then, I ran into Princess Atta, as I was going through a cereal box on my way over to the rides!

n25002324_32314849_8222.jpg

The details on all the rides were fantastic and it really felt like you were right there in the movie!

n25002324_32314854_9708.jpg

n25002324_32314857_605.jpg

There was just so much to do and so little time, so we decided we'd quickly walk around and get a good look at everything even if we didn't have time to actually enjoy all of the rides.

n25002324_32314856_309.jpg

n25002324_32314853_9402.jpg

Everything over in A Bug's Land was just so cute and a lot of fun! It was done as a lovely area just to walk around too, which was a neat touch for the adults.

Disney's California Adventure
Part 4

I had no idea, but California Adventure actually has a working Sour Dough and Tortilla Factory in the theme park! How neat is that!? That also means free samples for all the guests! ;)

We had just a little time left before we had to make it to the Disneyland Hotel for our dinner reservations and I just had to see the factories! :goodvibes

n25002324_32314861_1857.jpg

n25002324_32314862_2159.jpg

Disney's California Adventure is definitely a fun and interesting theme park with a little bit of everything "California!" The Sour Dough Factory Tour was pretty neat and Rosie O'Donnell hosted the tour on flat screen TV’s, as you made your way through the small factory, which you could see behind the glass. As soon as you entered the factory for the tour, you were handed some yummy bread!

The next stop was the Tortilla Factory and I just love tortillas! There is a cute short film you watch before entering the factory and it was really neat to actually see how the tortillas are made and you are handed one to eat right off of the conveyor belt! There were also Mickey shaped tortillas and other designs on display.

How many tortillas do you weigh?
n25002324_32314864_2743.jpg

It was a wonderful first trip to Disney's California Adventure, but it was time for us to go. We weren't able to see and do everything, so I can't wait to go back! The theme park was closing a little earlier than usual, I guess, because it was open so late the night before because of the Premiere. It was time for our dinner and we were getting hungry! :yay:

That is so neat! Do you have a picture to share, by any chance!? ;)

Yep, here you go as requested.....

A dream come true

My hair looks so bad..but I had fixed it at home at 8am & this was around 3pm & I had no way to try to do anything with it before the sound check...I don't care though....I think my smile says it all.

Oh my goodness! :scared: I am so glad you are okay! Are you feeling better now? I really hope so! I may be having some upcoming mouth surgery. Not sure yet. That sucks that you weren't able to get his autograph. :sad1: But that is sooooo cool that you were able to actually see him in person. :)

I'm feeling a bit better now, still having troubles, but hopefully they will be over soon. I hate teeth issues. I don't get it, I brush and floss several times a day and I still have problems. :confused3 Good luck with yours if you have to have mouth surgery. It is just awful.

Still enjoying your trippie. DF says we should book a trip to DL instead of going back to WDW for our 1 year anniversary. I'm thinking he's right! :thumbsup2

Glad you are back that was a great update. The Bugs life area looked really cute! Can't wait to read where and what you ate!!!

Lindsey......I love  the Bugs Life area. That wasn't there back in 2001 when I went. I can't wait to see that in person.

More please popcorn::

I felt like I was hijacking your thread posting those pictures of my time with Rick.........but you did ask so I obliged. :goodvibes:

I wish I had gotten the autograph, but it is still on my list of things I must do! :rotfl: Just some more incentive to go find Johnny! :goodvibes

Yeah, I am actually having problem with my teeth shifting. It's been about 10 years, since the braces came off, but I got a crown a year ago, which has moved my teeth! :headache: It's just bad news, lots of money, and lost of work! That also means...more pain...:scared:

I think you should definitely go to Disneyland for your anniversary! It'll be a whole new adventure! I'd take him up on that offer! ;)

did you like the little dog in the video at the tortilla factory that says "maseca"

:rotfl:

OMG, thats what happened to my teeth last year, but it was having just one tooth removed-the one all the way in the back, who knew??:confused3 I wish I still had my retainer from 15+ years ago :rotfl: .

Well, I hope you get your chance to get his autograph someday soon. Rumors have it (according to the guy that was Keith Richards body double-the guy on Big Brother 8) that they are going to make another POTC. But then again, its just a rumor. (Keeping fingers crossed REPEAT "I do believe in rumors, I do believe in rumors....":rotfl: ) DF has a friend from another message board, non Disney related, that has worked on all the POTC films. He sent us pics from behind the scenes from the past several films, however, sworn to secrecy on the set and for fear of losing his job, there are none of Johnny, Orlando or Keira. (Darnit! :headache: )

Another great installment! I come over and read your report to get inspiration to write mine for WDW! (I've got twelve days worth!) Love the Bug's life theme! I had no idea DCA was so detailed. Maybe I'll get there some day.........

my teeth shifted a bit too. had braces in high school. but it has never been any problem or enough of a difference to do anything about.
I have had 3 crowns in about the last 7-8 yrs though. luckily no root canals. Oh and I had my wisdom teeth out a couple years ago.

I hate teeth problems;)
