Do you keep the same use year for all of your different resorts or had does that work? I have a december uy for SSR and not sure how that will work if I add on at BLT.

Any advice would be appreciated

If you add on through Disney, you will only be able to get your current UY. You'd have to buy a completely new contract to get a different UY with direct buy in.

But if you purchase a resale, you can purchase any contract you want. But multiple UYs mean multiple times of the year that you have banking deadlines. And you can't combine points from two separate contracts for a single night. You have to use your once a year transfer for both contracts (one in and one out) to combine them.

I believe that things are much easier to manage if you have the same use year. I have points at three resorts. They are all the same use year and the same member number, with .001, .002, and .003 extensions. It's enough of an issue to be sure that I manage the points to get my "owner" advantage for high demand reservation times, without having to worry about multiple use years and contracts.

I have 2 different use years. March for BWV and December for AKV. Managing through it involves a little work, but nothing that causes me any grief. It does provide a small benefit when you think about potential cancellations etc. I personally see little reason to be afraid of 2 different use years

I agree with ohtarabell. Managing two different use years is a bit more work, but nothing that an organized person cannot handle. The advantage of being able to plan trips such that a cancellation will not fall outside of banking deadlines is nice.

Agreed we have two home resorts and with the same use year. It is also my understanding that if you have different use years with a different contract number, then if you want to combine the points for one reservation you'll have to transfer the points. Since we only have one transfer per year it would be a shame to use up both transfers on each contract in one transaction.

I have three different home resorts and the same UY for all three. As the second two were purchased as add-ons through Disney I didn't have a choice as I wasn't doing an entire new contract. I'm not that organized so I'm glad that I don't have to worry about the transfer issue. Obviously that isn't a really a challenge, just one that I perceive.---Kathy

We've got two contracts with the same UY, as well. In general, it makes everything easier to manage. However, I did have one problem once explaining to MS that all my points needed to come out of one of my particular contracts since I needed the other contract's points for the 11 month window when a waitlist came through and took points from the wrong contract. She kept telling me, "You're inside the 5 month window, all your points are equivalent now for the trip you're planning." I kept saying, "But I need all my BWV points for the trip I'm going to book as soon as my 11 month window opens up. This trip needs to come out of the AKV points." I thought we had it straight, but when I checked my account, the website showed the points about half and half from each contract. I had to call back, deal with a CM who refused to make any changes, and finally talk to a manager. I did get it straightened out, but it took multiple calls and was a huge hassle. If the contracts had not been same UY, this could not have happened.

So, while for the most part it is easier to have everything under one UY, it can create problems sometimes. Assuming we do eventually add-on more points (which we may or may not do; we want a Hawaii timeshare, and we're waiting to see what happens with Disney Ko'Olina before we buy one,) I'm not going to be absolutely determined to get the same UY. Maybe my experience was a fluke, but what it taught me is that there are pluses and minuses to having everything under one contract.

I have 5 different home resorts but have 2 different use years. My use years are April and June. It does add a level of complexity when you have more than one use year but not anything an organized person can keep track of on their own.

I have done this for so long that now I actually LOVE have 2 different use years.

We have two home resorts and two Use Years. It actually isnt that bad to manage. I find it helpful because we have the same number of points in each resort and tend to travel at two different times each year. The two diffferent Use Years actually makes scheduling those trips easier.

Just wanted to chime in to say that we have 2 use years too (and three contracts.) If there is a particular reason you want it then go for it. Otherwise, like everyone says, one is easier.

I own OKW and VB, I like the use years to be the same. I have always had the same use year but when I added on the last time with TSS, I had different names on the contracts and thus 2 member numbers. That was a real headache, two member number and trying to use the points was a mess.
Always make sure when you add on that the owners names read the same, exactly! It cost me a bundle to fix it all and have all contracts put into one.
Never again will I make that mistake!

Roses are Red,
Violets are Blue,
I'm schizphrenic,
and so am I.

We have two use years, December & February, at our home resort. They had been easy to manipulate until the realocation of the points charts for 2010. Now its more of a challenge to get the points to balance out evenly for the points per night. :confused3

I was considering adding points at another home resort, and I am not sure how easy it is to manage the points. I have read the previous post and have the following questions:

1) If both set of points have the same use year, can you specify at booking which home resort points are used?

2) Similarly, when banking can you specify which home resort points are banked?

Thanks....

I have had the same problem. We were making changes to a trip and needed the points to come out of a specific contract, because I needed the points from another contract to be available for the 11 month window.

As far as the original question we have 2 home resorts and 3 contracts. They are all in the same UY. Only my last contract was purchased directly through Disney. Our plan is to add a 3rd home resort in the future and I will probably look to keep it within the same UY, but I am not unwilling to get another if the right resale becomes available. I will however do my homework to make sure the UY will work out for me as far as banking points, etc.
