...to use the internet by doing such things like posting on the Dis at work during "work time" if your employer doesn't limit your access or doesn't know about it?

And secondly, a show of hands...who here can back up with their post history and log info that they do not do it?

Please discuss.

Don't be so sure your employer doesn't know about it. Depending on their system your employer has the ability to see where you go, what you type, read your emails and how much time you spend online. If that's a problem, don't do it on company equipment.

And yes, it is wrong to post on company time, even if the boss doesn't know. Every minute you are posting on DIS is a minute you aren't giving your employer, who is paying for your full-time attention. :surfweb:

I don't know if it's necessarily "wrong" but I'm sure my employer wouldn't be too happy to see me DISing at work!

Also when I'm on the DIS I get into a timewarp black whole where hours go by without me noticing. Probably bad for work!

It's hard to back myself up because I work weird hours. I leave at 7am and get home at 8:30pm (or leave at 7pm, home at 8:30 or 9 am if I'm working nights). I worked Thurs-Mon of memorial Day weekend... and if you look back at my posts, I can guarantee you that I didn't post from 7am-8:30pm on those days!! Nor did I post from 7pm-8:30am of yesterday-today. I'll be leaving for work in an hour and a half... no DIS posting for me until tomorrow morning!

I think I'm too afraid of getting caught. The most I do is check my email and actually read up on stuff about my job if I'm not busy.

Call me a dork if you want, I don't care ;)

One of the Kindergarten teachers at the school was on her computer alot. Her desk was facing the door across the room so she could always see if someone was coming in the room. It turns out that she use to shop online during school hours. She isn't there anymore.

I'm sure it is wrong, and I am sure it makes me less productive. Yet here I am  I tell myself everyday I will not get on until I am done with whatever I have planned for the day, but I am addicted.

It is wrong? I don't think so. But then again this job is so boring and lame sometimes it's either DIS'ing or poking out my eyeballs.

:lmao: I don't feel so bad anymore. I am fairly bored, but not quite that bad. Not to make excuses (well maybe) but when I go into my managers office about 90% of the time she is reading personal e-mails. Our surgery scheduler is usually playing spider solitaire. They are fairly lenient on days we don't see patients.

I think a happier employee is more productive at work. If you can browse the internet and still get your work done as needed and you are doing a good job, WHY NOT????
but I am sure that most wouldn't agree with me? :confused3

I see absolutely nothing wrong with it in my situation. My employer pays me to get a task done to the company's standard and to the client's satisfaction. The work I do is very technical and sometimes I need a break to clear my head and to stay alert. If I choose to spend a few minutes DISing, no one minds, as long as it doesn't interfere with my work. If taking a break means I need to stay longer to get my job done, that's my issue.

Of course the freedom could be abused, and that's a problem. And if DISing during the day would impact or inconvenience anyone else, it's not OK.

But I've always appreciated the respect afforded to me by my employer by trusting me to manage my own time and schedule. It makes me respect the company more, take more ownership of my projects, and work even harder to ensure my company's success. And my company seems to be darn happy with me!

If my employer really wanted to they could see what I'm doing online but I don't think they really care. My problem is I am a fast worker and I finish everything quickly, first they tried to help me with this by giving me three more positions and a promotion. They all tell me I'm too quick for them and they run out of things to give me. I try to keep myself busy but there's only so much work stuff I can do for the future so I get bored with that and surf the web.

Also it's a friday and none of my 3 supervisors are even here (yes I have three because I have three positions) it is pretty weird!

I see nothing wrong with surfing the web if you have your work done but some companies are really strict about it. I wouldn't do it if my company was one of the strict ones and risk my job over web surfing!

I look at it this way, a happy employee is a productive employee....so, don't take away my Dis and I'll make your numbers :thumbsup2 :teeth:

I don't know that I would say it's wrong. It depends. I work for a large company. I get my work done, plus a lot more. I have the highest performance review number many managers have ever seen. I go online and do something other than my job at least every day. They know and as long as my production and performance are above average I don't think anyone cares.

My bosses are also doing this.

I work in a tech support call center and I do get on the DIS while at work, our basic rules are that as long as you're not on the phone w/ a customer and it's not a site blocked by our firewall, then its OK to use the internet for personal use. If we are caught on a personal site while on the phone w/ a customer, you get a verbal warning, then get docked on your weekly quality, and it goes from there.

This being said, I still don't do a lot of posting while at work, maybe once or twice and usually nothing more than a link or copy and paste of something. I know that our activity is monitored and logged, and though it's allowed, I still don't want to have things like that in my logs.
