5 1/2 days to get from Anchorage to Disney and 2 days to get from Disney back to Madison, and my wife slept almost the whole way.

This is a most excellent idea! I checked out mapquest and going to DC only adds 4 hours to our trip, minus traffic of course. If I can add an extra day to my vacation request I hope we will be able to do this! (Yes I already put in my vacation request last month for June! )

I had read you are planning cross country!! We have done this 6 times from NJ (4 trips all the way to the Pacific) the other 2 just to the mountain states. Any Questions please ask!!! It's a lot of fun to plan.

Wow! I spent last night and this morning reading all the posts on this thread. It was very entertaining.
We leave 10/17 for a 10/19-10/24 visit to Fort Wilderness in our new 5th wheel. We have two days planned on each side of our Disney visit to take our time and see a little bit of TN.
We are just a tinch south of Flint, MI and plan to see some of the Smoky Mts. on the way down along with a cavern tour and on our return trip will stop outside Chattanooga for a cave tour and possibly a fall color tour too.
We haven't traveled farther than CedarPoint(Ohio) pulling the 5th wheel, so this will be a learning experience and hopefully a grand adventure.
We also both get to celebrate our birthdays in WDW.

You might want to think about Shennandoah NP in western VA as well for fall colors!! You can actually drive from N to S or reverse depending on when you visit. Just another idea. We have done the park and the Civil War NHS along the way. Lookout mountain in Eastern TN is neat as well. Camping in Sheannahdoah is pretty good as well. We have done it twice already since we got our travel trailer. Have fun what ever you pick.

We drove along Skyline Drive in Shennandoah National Park on our way back from Florida in August. It was awesome as you could actually see .... no smog or smoky stuff hanging in the air. And it wasn't raining, either. Two pluses!

where or where is the best gas prices and
where are the absolutley no stop places?

I found the first place in Georgia outside of Florida to be a
very expensive and unfriendly gas experience.

I just got back and the odometer had over 3000 miles on it. I drove from north of Detroit to Pittsburgh to Washington, DC to Savannah, GA to Orlando. It isn't the farthest I have ever driven. We drove to Central America from Chicago as a kid. But it was the farthest I have driven as an adult. My kids were wishing we had a mini van. I have a Jeep Liberty, which is tight for five. But we made it.
My favorite part was stopping for OJ at the Florida border. My least favorite was all the construction on the Penn Turnpike.

Gasoline still holding (as of 48 hours ago) at $2.09 per gallon at the Manahawkin, NJ Wawa.

Crude per barrel, though, up 50 cents, breaking the $70 mark this afternoon.
Perhaps that could be it for "low" gasoline prices.

We'll see.

guess we will be filling up tonight at the Wawa, instead of Cumberland Farms on 72.

My wife and I left our jobs in Anchorage, AK one year and drove to Disney via Madison, WI to pick up my mom. Then drove back to Madison to live. Total, about 6,100 miles. That was a looooooooooonnnnnnnnngggggggggg trip.

I did it about 10 years ago (Oakland, CA-St. Louis-WDW-New Jersey) -- lots of fun!!

I'm about to join the 2,000 mile club two weeks from tomorrow. We'll be starting in Northern Virginia, making a 2 night stopover in Savannah, GA, followed by a glorious 5 nights at Saratoga Springs in WDW. I've done the drive twice before, so I know what I'm in for and actually love a good road trip. The bad part for me is that I'll be making the return trip SOLO. I hope to get an early start and make it back home to VA in one day. Wish me luck!

Yes! You are there! Interesting notes on the I-95 traffic.

We're in Nashville, TN right now. A separate trip, not WDW-related. We drove, of course. But the truck traffic on I-81 (I-95 to I-495 to I-66-to I-81 to I-40) was incredibly heavy; it was almost as if there was a truck convention going on! We've never seen as many big rigs on I-95.

Perhaps that's why traffic was light for dvczerfs!

I just got into the College Program for the Spring, so I will be taking my first drive to WDW in January! The "round trip" part won't happen til almost the summer though lol...I have never been on this long of a drive before, and I am really nervous! I have always flown, but I really don't want to be living there for 4-6 months without my own transportation...so, I am joining the 2000+ Mile Club now! Tell me it isn't as bad as I am anticipating lol
