Quick question...

Do any of you use the Owner's Locker? Or do any of you ship? Carry it all in your vehicle??

Owners's locker? Are you describing what out-of-state drivers do with WDW purchases?

Packing practices is what I'm referring too. I guess this is a question for those who have a good amount of trips under their belts. To keep from packing the car up with lots of stuff what alternatives do you use? Owner's locker, ship your stuff down there and then ship it back home or do you pack everything in your vehicle and bring it back home?

With two of us, there is always enough room (even if we use our Honda Civic!) for a five-piece luggage set, a cooler, a food container and a extra bag of misc. items. Anything we purchase, we simply bring home with us, except for special gifts for relatives who don't live near us. Then we use Disney shipping (UPS). Never really a problem with luggage and stuff except checking into a motel on the way home: one must take the valuables from your vehicle.
We hope this helps (from a couple that has done 11 2,000+mile round trips since 2002!).
All the best.

I was wondering what your gas total was roundtrip and what type of car did you drive? I am driving from Albany NY with a minivan and thought about 600 roundtrip even though the AAA gas calculator says 435.

We're from the NW corner of CT (so not TOO far from you, relatively) and did the drive in early January...granted, gas prices have gone up about $1 a gallon since then.

It cost us, round trip, under $400 (including our driving around gas while down there...I think the total was like $375-ish). We drive a Ford Winstar. I'd guess that would go up to about $525, with the current gas prices.

We drive a Ford Windstar as well and get 20 mpg. The trip from our place near Chicago is 2280 miles round trip. We'll need 114 gallons of gas to get there (2280/20) and even estimating gas at $5 per gallon, the cost is only $570 which is NOTHING compared to the cost of flying 6 people out and back. There is no choice for us - we have to drive.

Yup, same boat.

For us, the drive is about 2400-ish miles (1100-something each way). We get about the same gas mileage, because, like you, it's ALL highway miles.

There are 5 of us.

Even with the ancillary expenses (food, hotel, etc), we come in at about 1/2 (or a bit less) than the price it takes us to fly down.

The time savings doesn't, for our budget, make it worthwhile.

Might there be someone from the Atlanta area that can clue me in as to which lane (other than the HOV) would take me clear through with little or no changing of lanes? :scared1: I am coming from Indiana on 75.

Thank you, Slightly Goofy

We are leaving on Sunday night, July 20th at 8:00 pm from here in St. Louis and plan on arriving at Pop Century at around 2:00 pm the next day! :)

I can't wait to get the Trailblazer loaded!

Hitting the road from New Jersey Friday night 8:00 - 9:00 pm.
Hope for no traffic and save trip to all fello Diser and my family.:thumbsup2

We are very excited to do our first road trip to Disney in August. Being a family of 5, it's just more financially feasible and I LOVE the memories of road trips from when I grew up. Now we are leaving 8/23 around 9pm but I'm not sure when to count on arriving (we are driving through the night). We live in South Jersey (Medford). If we make brief bathroom stops and a short lunch break what time should we anticipate getting to Orlando? Thanks.

Another Jersey driver here! In the past we have left at around 3AM, stopping in SC or GA around 4pm. Starting early the next morning gets us into Clearwater (we head there 1st to visit family) by about 2:00. We do stop alot while driving (2 toddlers) and take lots of breaks, so we aren't breaking any speed records... Our favorite thing to do as we head south of the border is to see who can spot the 1st palm tree...

We enjoy the drive and are doing it again in Jan! Can't wait! :woohoo:

Driving time is about 16 hours so I'd plan on about 18 hours for the trip. So that will get you there around 3 p.m. Best of luck!

Avoid downtown Atlanta by going 285 west. It is literally the bypass of downtown atlanta and you can reconnect with 75 south after you've made it past the madhouse. Just to let you know, if you stay in the 3rd lane from the right (all the way from Chatanooga,) you will catch 285 west without having to change lanes. This will be a different story when you need to get back on 75 though. Have fun!

leaving friday from Upstate NY!

We will see you on the road. We are leaving from Long Island at 2am (hopefully) and planning to stop at 4pm. At first we were shooting for Lumberton NC but now I want to get to Florence SC. This is our first attempt at this.

We have done the drive over 20 times from NJ. We used to drive straight through!! The past few trips we have had to stop due to a serious back injury I have, we did stop in May in Florence. Make sure that you have some type of reservation or arrive early. One trip home a few years ago we made a few pitstops and couldn't get a room midway. All booked up and it was still May!! Have a great trip. Once you are past Washington DC, a very smooth ride.
