Ours have settled in at 3.29 for cash/credit stations. For a little while most had gone to 3.33, but in the last week dropped back down. Does this mean the "summer driving" price increases are in the prices already or are more increases to come (not including any effects from events in the Ukraine)?

For our August trip, I am going to maximize our gas budget. Been checking what exits have the best prices and plan stops around those prices.

10 days until departure...20 hour, non-stop drive for us. Got a new mini-van (not just for this trip :) ) Getting excited...even for the drive...

So we realized that my in laws invited us to hatteras in sept, and that our plans for disney were so close, that it made sense to smush them together. Our reasoning was that since we'd already be in North Carolina, why drive back to pit and then to Florida, when we could just shoot right down? However, we're shocked to see google maps showing us 13+ hours from hatteras to disney?! Is this right? It would be like an hour shorter than driving all the way from pit. Is there something we aren't seeing?

I never did it but there is no way? from south of the border to wdw I do it in seven hours. that's hitting welcoming centers and a gas stop. I wouldn't think it would take six hours from the cape to the s.carolina border.:confused3

I know! That's what we thought too. We can't figure out how it could possibly take so long! There must be a better route...

my brother lives in cape Carteret nc. and I think he said hes about an hour or so from i95.
maybe someone will come along who has driven that route and can tell you more.

After planning our next 2 week visit in August with the associated 18 hours of driving.... and then we were looking for something to do for April break, and, well we have annual passes, so... another drive in April.

Has anyone else been fool enough to drive from the midwest or northeast twice in one year? I am a fool....

We're making our first drive in May with a ~21 month old from Maryland and again in December with a ~28 month old. Are we crazy? Lol

There is no great way to get from the Hatteras to Disney. The island is pretty far off I-95 and when you get in, you are only in Rocky Mount. Wish there was a quicker way, but I don't see one.

Thanks, it's helpful to hear it from others. That's what the map is saying, but we trust people more haha!
So now we're thinking maybe just head home after the beach and re-group, then head back down to Florida in october

What does everybody like to snack on or eat during these drives? I usually get some pretzels, sandwiches for a rest stop lunch and sometimes cold pizza from the night before. I always try to pick up a special soda or two as well. Stuff I normally wouldn't drink.

Our rule when we drive long trips is that we can't eat the same chain food twice. It gets a bit tough when all the stops on I-95 seem to be the same three chains. We also have a small cooler with ice with leftovers from previous day, fruit and cut up vegetables and there can be a bag of salty snack floating around. Same rule, can't buy the same flavor of chips twice. We are Canadian so eating American quick food that doesn't exist at home is part of the adventure.
